Techslayer

Who Are They?

Techslayers are proponents of the 'fight fire with fire' ideology. Many of them have been victimized by the dangerous technology of the goblins and gnomes- a Night Elven forest desecrated by shredders, a home caved in by explosives- who have decided to fight tinkers with their own tech. Techslayers do not hate science, though- only science used for evil purposes. They work to build and nurture, and will police technology with a zeal.

Who Likes Them?

The Horde above all else employee techslayers, as they commonly are farther behind in a race for gadgets when compared with the Alliance and their Gnomish tinkers. Some goblin groups may hire on techslayers to assist in taking down an enemy force. Tauren and Night Elves are the most keen to the techslayers and their cause, typically because they represent a nature-oriented use of machinery.

Training

Requirements

Techslayers are most commonly employed from out of the Horde's ranks, usually due to the lowered acceptance of technology within the races of the Orcs, Trolls, and Tauren. Druids and Shaman are some common Techslayers, though they can truly come from any class. It is extremely unlikely to see a Gnomish Techslayer.

Strengths

  • Technologic

Techslayers have a keen knowledge on machinery, usually memorizing the fine details of designs. Specifically their weak points.

  • Diffuser

A Techslayer can safely disarm a bomb or another mechanical device with their knowledge of the inner workings of machines.

  • Favored enemy: Engineers

Techslayers can wreck another tinker's machinery and can often counteract their methods of defense and offense.

Weaknesses

  • Concentration

Techslayers know how to fight engineers. Hard. They are less proficient with other enemies, however, and the mystical machinations of a mage may end up being too different for the Techslayer to handle with the same efficiency.

  • Basic Construction

Techslayers largely wield the same machinery as the common engineer; they simply place it to a different use. They may be more honed in using EMP grenades than rocket launchers, but in the end the Techslayer isn't making many esoteric gadgets such as a suit of steam armor.

Skills and Abilities

  • Electromagnetic Pulse Technology

A Techslayer's best friend. The EMP can come in many forms- grenades, belt activated blasts, and even just present as an aura emitted around the Techslayer. The EMP guarantees to take down most mechanical devices in the area upon use, rendering their users helpless.

The obvious downside is that the Techslayer's own tech is nonfunctional during this period as well. EMPs are not selective.

  • Precision Strike

Techslayers are capable of completely crippling robotic foes. A Techslayer with proper study in a design (or at times even a similar design of bot) may bring alongside his arsenal what is essentially a touch of death to a mechanical foe- Able to place a machine out of commission with a single well aimed blow.

Again, mastering this strike can take a good deal of time, and a different weakness must be exploited for different machines.

  • Green Machine

Techslayers are protectors of the earth, vigilante against the destructive tendencies of the usual tinker. Because of this they will often employee 'green' technology, leaving very little trace of its effects on the land. Elemental cores and renewable energy sources are most common when dealing with these sorts of machinery.

  • Tracker

A skilled Techslayer needs no roar of an engine or the clash of metal to find his prey. Techslayers have become honed to the signs of technology, and can track the offending implement down through even the slightest signs of pollutants or tracks of a spidertank. There is no rest for the mechanically-minded wicked.

Training Outline

The Techslayer's beginnings are humble. Starting from their basic training of shaman, warrior, or whatever other class they may originate from, the Techslayer must find motivation to undertake this new path. Of course, depending on your race, this can be fairly easy- The ravenous goblin machinery can be found all over, after all.

Once the trainee has set their eyes to the destruction of harmful tech, they do just that. Techslayers truly have no specialized training. The difference between a vigilante and the Techslayer, though, is what comes next. Undoubtedly in your efforts to take down machinery, you have learned a few things. Examples are:

  • Machines are stronger than you.
  • Machines are faster than you.
  • Machines are bigger than you. With missiles.

In short, by this point you have discovered that your typical axe won't do the job for the big rigs. Techslayers tend to begin small- using a goblin drill to pierce the thick hull of a machine, or bombs to relieve an area of a machine shop. Initial Techslayer weaponry is still crude, and there is absolutely no training placed into it yet; usually these weapons are just stolen from their targets during an attack. Whatever the case, these things work quite a bit better than your axe.

Techslayers come to embrace these new weapons as part of a necessary evil- In time, though, they become more and more curious of the devices, and seek to gain more knowledge to better utilize these stolen machines. While this normally means seeking out an engineer for training, intimidating an enemy goblin works just as well. The training a Techslayer takes is quite rudimentary; for the usual races of a Techslayer such as Orc, Troll, or Tauren, though, the training may in itself prove to be a bit more demanding due to their lack of familiarity with the material.

While the training of the basics of engineering should not take an overly long time, what does is the Techslayer's implementation of their new skills. Techslayers are mostly self-taught in terms of combat- They will commonly take to the field with a few different devices, attempting to discern their best implementation. They essentially combine their new skills with their preexisting combat training as warriors or shaman, and simply hone their ability at combat from there.

The life of a Techslayer, as it is with any class concerned with engineering, is one of trial and error. It may take months to perfect their combat style, or perhaps a few days to master an EMP grenade. They are continually evolving in skill, regardless, learning to adapt as new machines are crafted which are immune to their previous tactics. They spend their time scouting locations for the misuse of tech, or studying up on the latest machinery to know how to best disarm it.

Active Techslayers

Currently there are no active Techslayers, so any applicants would have to create an NPC for the training.
