Who Are They?

Primals are powerful warriors who were once a large bulk of the great Troll empires many, many years ago. They believe that every creature has a dark, primeval essence that inhabits them. This has been come to called "the beast within". As they learn to embrace it and not suppress it, they take on an increasingly animal-like appearance. Their irises turn gold, yellow, white or red, and their pupils darken and become longslitted. Their skin thickens, changes colour or grows fur. Their muscles become thick and sinewy, granting greater strength. They grow claws, fangs and horns. By the end of it, they appear as an unnatural combination of their former self and a wild beast. These warriors revel in bestial fury, and it's given them fear to their name. Where the Berserker or Bone Crusher controls his rage, the Primal does not. He lets himself become consumed by it and wreaks havoc on those who confront them. They have no chains restraining them. Also unlike others, the Primal channels the fury from the beast within themselves. They learn how to draw from this primeval essence and turn their rage into devastating fits of anger not unlike those of the wildest beasts. Also like the beast within him, the Primal is constantly on guard, and his instincts become so well honed that he can trigger a rage in response to someone else's action.

As the Primal slowly connects with the animal spirit inside themselves, they become more connected with the animals around him. Using vocalisations, demeanor and body language, they can improve the attitude of any animal, magical or otherwise, and vermin. Depending on how skilled they are, they can also communicate with the animal for a number of minutes. (Though it should be noted that it's not as if the animal can suddenly speak Common to the Primal.)

Those who have crossed paths with a Primal have made it a point to never provoke them. They are savage, bloodthirsty and unpredictable. The fear created by them is very well earned.

Who Likes Them?

Truth be told, the only types of people who only truly appreciate these Primalists are Jungle Troll tribes, for it's where they originate from. They are currently banished from Alliance settlements, and even The Horde views them as too dangerous to be trusted too easily. Though despite the mistrust they gain, at the same time they are also admired for their ferocious and unrelenting fighting prowess. But alas, even if they are as talented as they are, The Horde only views them as useful in times of war. In the rare times of peace, they are menacing nuisances. They are undesired necessities at times. Goblin towns will be very wary of a Primal in their presence and will watch their every move with their rifles loaded, and if they have money to spend then they may be more forgiving. After all, gold is gold no matter where it comes from, right?

Requirements

Only Warriors can become Primals.

Strengths

  • Primal Strength

Along with however strong they were before, Primals are blessed with even greater strength. Whilst far from able to demolish objects like a Bone Crusher, suffice to say, the Primal is still able to pack a strong punch.

  • Nature's Blessing

Their five senses are heightened, and they have much quicker reactions. They can trigger a rage just from someone's response.

  • Bestial Evolution

Their bestial appendages can prove to be deadly weapons of their own, and the Primal is very proficient with them. They actually exceed in length whilst they are raging, and they can tear through flesh quite easily.

Weaknesses

  • Cocky

The Primal considers themselves illuminated and blessed. This may result in them underestimating their opponent and being lead into a trap.

  • Just Lose It!

With only a varying degree of control, Primals often run the risk of losing themselves in fury.

  • Outcast

They are highly mistrusted and deemed to be dangerous by other societies. A Primal may be one of the greatest fighters around, but he may have no allies at all. Or there may even be people who want them dead just because of how they are (most likely to be Alliance).

  • Forgotten Talents

They descend to such levels of ferality that they very quickly lose any skill with weaponry.

Skills and Abilities

  • Feral Charge

The Primal can build up enough momentum with a charge to knock a being off their feet. And with horns, this just hurts even more.

  • Enraged Regeneration

The Primal can use their rage and the blessing of nature to rapidly speed up their regeneration for a few seconds. How much is healed depends on the circumstance, and this can only be used once a day.

  • Mighty Roar

The Primal can scare away beasts with single, powerful roar.

  • "Smart Choice"

An individual may be more willing to cooperate with a Primal out of fear.

  • Admired

Despite what other societies may believe, Jungle Troll tribes admire their Primals and see them as valuable allies. They are held in high regard by members of their tribe, but perhaps not to the extension of a Shadow Hunter.

Training Outline

The Primal will be guided through their training by a Troll, for no other race understands it as much as they do. Those under training will first need to be made aware of the beast within themselves. This may be easier for some than for others. How is up to the teacher, mostly. Whether it's through a dream quest induced by potent drugs or perhaps through a ritual, the trainee will eventually become fully aware of the essence inside himself. Now he will have to learn how to unlock it.

The trainee will then be pitted against enemies and forced to enter the deepest rage they may have entered in their entire lives. It may be a rather painful or devastating experience, but such is the ways of the Primal: to go beyond the boundaries of normal people. After this, they may be getting the first signs of becoming a Primal after a day. Usually it's their irises changing colour.

The trainee will immediately see themselves as climbing the ladder of power, and their teacher will be encouraging them to do more of it. They will continue to revel in their bestial fury and kill their foes. As times go by, they will begin taking on the other bestial appendages. It should be noted that these do take a while to grow, and the teacher may try and come up with ways to speed up the process with more daring challenges, but there's no guarantee it'll work.

About halfway through gaining their bestial appendages, the Primal-in-training will be reminded that they still have their connection to the animal kingdom. They will tap into the beast within, and without knowing how, they'll suddenly find that they are able to mimic the noises of wild animals. They suddenly know how a wild animal acts, as if there's a database of lore inside their heads that they had known for ages. They are then forced to go into a wilderness, alone, and they are to practice their communication with the animals. Whether it's joining them in their hunts or making a beast submit to them and improving their attitude. If they fail, then they will have to keep repeating the process. The teacher will be visiting the trainee to see proof that they've accomplished their task.

After, they will continue training, but rather than focusing on just gaining new appendages, they will normally try and practice with the ones they already have so that they are the killing tools they are brought up to be. As they do this, they will begin to notice that they are stronger than before, and that their senses seem heightened. Along with this, they will be learning new skills. They can scare away beasts with a roar, use their rage and nature to rapidly speed up natural regeneration for a number of seconds, and accelerate into a thunderous charge able to knock down many obstacles.

Finally, they will continue inducing themselves into deep fits of rage by channeling the essence inside themselves. The appendages will be reaching their limit, and they will be learning to trigger instant rages from a creature's action, which will make them feel as if possessed, but they will welcome it with open arms. By now, they are a fully accomplished Primal. Their mutations are complete and they will appear as an unnatural combination of their original race and an animal, but they will consider themselves blessed. After this, they will be free to do as they please.
