Who Are They?

In life they were burglars, scouts, priests and assassins. In death they are now one rank, divided in faith but united in hatred. They are the Lightslayers, fanatical zealots of the Forgotten Shadow who have dedicated their lives to the eradication of the Scarlet Crusade, the Church of the Holy Light, the Argent Crusade and all who practice their once-beloved faith.

Lightslayers are stealth-based Forsaken zealots. The group was started by the Forsaken scout and once-burglar Illius. When previous attempts at constructing an anti-Light force met with violent failure, Illius crafted a group of religious zealots who, using stealth and gorilla tactics, struck out against the enemies of the Forsaken and the Church of the Forgotten Shadow.

Lightslayers are skilled in assassinations and unconventional combat tactics. Never one to favor direct combat, Lightslayers prefer stealth and subterfuge to hand out their executions. Their training makes them powerful enemies against Paladins, Holy Priests and other wielders of the faith; thanks to their religious teachings and trainings they can withstand much greater damage from the Holy Light and parcel out more damage to their holy quarry.

Bitter, withdrawn and religiously extreme, the Lightslayers are a secretive -and very divided- rank in the Dark Lady's army.

Who Likes Them?

Lightslayers are revered by their sect of the Forgotten Shadow cult. However, because of the fractional nature of the Forgotten Shadow religion, most cults are small and far-flung. The vast majority of the other cults will often, while treating you with a modicum of respect above a normal Forsaken, still not give you any special treatment.

Orcs and other shamanistic cultures do not relish the presence of Lightslayers for their use of Shadow in their combat. Other, more noble races such as Tauren and Orcs, do not enjoy Lightslayers for their dishonorable tactics in combat. The Horde accepts them, yet does not give them any special respect.

The Lightslayers are not known by the Alliance. The group is but hypothesis, experienced by few and studied by even fewer. They are not common knowledge to Alliance hero. The Alliance races loathe them not as any special class but more as one would loathe a member of the Forsaken.

Strengths

  • Slayer

Through their training they have strengthened their resistance to Light and its harmful spells.

  • Nimble

Their training has taught them how to be agile and dexterous.

  • Nice and Close

A Lightslayer, through training and experience, has learned how to better slay Light-wielders when in close quarters combat.

  • Dark Loyalty

Their religious teachings allow them to wield Shadow-based spells to assist them in their work.

  • Execute

Their training makes them masters at performing stealthy assassinations at night.

Weaknesses

  • Stringy

Their training has dulled their strength, making them weaker than average Forsaken and forcing them to rely on dexterity over muscles.

  • Zealotry

Their religious code forces them to kill all Light wielders they meet if such activity would not cause their immediate death (such as meeting one in a city or in front of guards/well armed friends).

  • Secrecy

The Lightslayer cannot divulge information of their training or their powers to enemies of the Forsaken.

Skills and Abilities

  • Night Cloak

The Lightslayer can cloak themselves in shadow, making themselves invisible while in darkness.

  • Entering and Breaking

Lightslayers can open most non-magical locks and catches. They are also masters of close-quarters assassination.

  • Necrosis

The Lightslayer can tip their weaponry with shadow-crafted poisons before entering combat. The poisons can cause limb paralysis or necrosis when an enemy is struck. They cannot coat their weapons during combat.

  • Darkened Light

The Lightslayer can cast a Dampening spell that weakens all Light-based spells and abilities in a twenty foot area. The spell dampens the spell's strength, not completely prevents casting.

  • Dark Faith

Their religious instructions have given the Lightslayer the spells of a Shadow Priest.

Training Outline

A Lightslayer is trained by one of the many fractional strands of the Cult of the Forgotten Shadow. Yet before each cult takes in an aspirant they first test them for worth. These tests are often assigned missions, tasks or practical demonstrations of skill that are done to impress the religious leaders in the cult.

The cult's training is usually one to two months long. The training alternates between combat and religious study from week to week, with Aspirants honing their magic powers alongside their physical strength. The training is often done wholly or in part in a cult's training ground, a secret location hidden away in Forsaken-controlled territory where religious buildings and training fields are located.

As the Lightslayer's training progresses they are ever-increasingly sent out on missions. In the beginning they undertake assassinations in small groups against single Scarlet Crusaders, Silver Hand Knights or any other Light-wielder in the area. They follow that by undertaking ambushes, espionage missions or tactical attacks against small bands of Light-wielders and sympathizers.

After their training the Lightslayer is given a high-value target as their final task. The target can be either a powerful holy relic that they are tasked with destroyed or an important priest or paladin in the area that must be executed. This task is done alone and is designed to train and harden the lightslayer for the work ahead.

If survived, the aspirant will be given the full rank of Lightslayer and all abilities and knowledge attributed to that group.

Active Lightslayers

Currently there are no active Lightslayers, so any applicants would have to create an NPC for the training.
