Who Are They?

One who attends arenas often will always spot the difference between the combatants meant for dying, and the ones meant for killing. And then there are the Myrmidons: The elite of the arena. The one who the crowd loves the most. The Myrmidon is someone who has mastered close quarters combat, and though they shine the brightest in the arena, their abilities are still deadly outside it. They use their skills even in times of war on grand battlefields. These warriors are renown for their skill with every weapon imaginable, as well as their almost unmatched expertise in their main weapon of choice. They are often seen cutting through multiple foes at once with as much ease as fighting only a single enemy. As foes, they are feared for their deadly accuracy and feats of strength, and the ones who underestimate them may find themselves in an early grave. They cleave and demolish enemies with frightening ease and their allies welcome them to any conflict.

Merging their body and soul with their weapons, they give their audience a bloody and gruesome show, all in the name of glory, fame and riches. The arenas are their second home, and maybe even their only one.

Who Likes Them?

Goblins and those who attend arena matches love them to pieces. Indeed, the arena is quite possibly their biggest source of gold, or at least in the top few of them. The audience wants to see blood and people get the stuffing beaten out of them, and the Myrmidons don't hold back. The arena is also a hub for slave trading. But it's not just the arena who likes them. Should the chance come for the armies of the factions to hire people, the Myrmidon is welcomed and honoured.

Strengths

  • "Gimme That Thing!"

They can use nearly every weapon that has ever been created. Whilst they're best with their weapon of choice, give a Myrmidon any weapon (or object for that matter) and they can put it to gruesome use.

  • Fighting Mastery

They are masters of close quarters combat. Chances are if you get within range of one then you already have a large chance of getting injured.

  • Knowledge is Power

The Goblins won't risk an audience getting bored. Thus, they throw everything they have at Myrmidons nowadays. Magic beasts, humanoids, exotic animals... there's very little things that a Myrmidon doesn't have some knowledge on.

  • Watchful Eye

The Myrmidons are tough to take down. They are not invincible, but their ability to fight even when outnumbered is renown across the world.

  • Wealthy

As a Myrmidon, you are one of the greatest ways to get a Goblin rich. Even though they'd prefer not to, you still get your share. Thus, you are rather wealthy. Unless you're a slave.

  • Respected

Whilst it's unlikely people will be dropping to their knees and worshipping the ground you walk on, no matter what battle you're entering, you'll be getting some respect just for being who you are, particularly in the Horde.

Weaknesses

  • "Get Down Here!"

As mentioned, they are masters of close quarters combat. They could use ranged weapons, but they'd generally not be very good with them.

  • Not So Fast

That contract you signed isn't there to make you feel fancy. If you fail to show up to arena matches, they'll punish you for it. You've almost sold your soul to the devil - except this one's small and green. These punishments are often severe and... well, you have imaginations. Angry Goblins are unpleasant.

  • Useless

If you fight against an enemy that cannot be struck by normal weaponry, such as ghosts and the like, then you've essentially just become a meatshield and you're useless against them.

  • Worse

Whatever weakness the Myrmidon has before training... then they're worse. And you most certainly have a weakness, good sir/madam.

Skills and Benefits

The Myrmidon have no specific skills. They could probably pull off a flashy move that a normal guy would most likely stab themselves trying to pull off, but that's about it. As mentioned however, they can fight multiple opponents as easily as they can fight a single individual.

Training Outline

Firstly, you need to actually sign up. During which, you receive a contract that's most likely riddled with small print. This contract will basically be saying that whilst under ownership, you run the risk of maiming or death in the worst cases should you attempt to abandon the arena or break any other rules that they might possible have. Once this is all done, you are then put through trials. What it is depends on what they feel like putting some poor person through, but whatever it is, you have to overcome it. Should you succeed you're then claimed by an owner and they sign you up for arena matches to see if you're worth their time.

During the multiple arena matches you enter, you will slowly be gaining more profiency with not only your main weapon, but with all the other weapons that are within the arena's armoury. If you have no experience at all with them, then you'll probably be having harder training sessions with said weaponry. Training sessions with other Myrmidons will come daily.

As time goes by, you have more experience and you're a bit better than you were previously. But of course, a bit better won't be cutting it. Sometimes you'll either be assigned major matches, or perhaps even taken out of the arena to face dangers in other parts of the world. This is when you'll be completing challenges that test almost every aspect of fighting. Courage, strength, endurance, and other parts of fighting will all be put to the limits and sharpened. These tend to go on for a couple of weeks or even a month until there is a vast improvement of your skills.

Within the arena... there's competition all around you. Everyone will be grabbing the chance to climb to the top, and will most likely have no issues killing people to do it. That's right, you're included. So naturally, during your stay you'll be having to make sure you're not one of the people who get trampled and left to rot. Your owner might task you to go do a job outside the arena. You could challenge someone superior than you and rig the match. Whatever it is will depend on the circumstances, but one thing is certain: You can't afford to fall behind, and your owner will, without a doubt, be doing everything in his power to make you the fittest.

Hopefully if you've made your mark in the ranks, you'll be reaching the middle-ground. You don't dominate the place, but hey, you've not been shipped away in a body bag. And that's what matters, right? By the end of all this, you're a much better fighter than you were before and you've learned to take skills from the arena and use them in other fields of combat. You've gained a lot of experience in many types of weaponry and even more in your preferred weapon. You're pretty wealthy, and as long as you continue to fulfill your end of the bargain, then you won't be having Goblins knocking on your door with hammers. You are now a Myrmidon, and you've emerged into a new world of blood, steel and rage.
