Priestess of the Moon

Who Are They?

The Priestesses of the Moon are the fiercest of the Sentinels and the greatest of the Sisters of Elune. These powerful Night Elves combine their combat prowess and their faith to become deadly weapons. They rarely leave the forests; these women spend most of their time patrolling the land, their task to fight anyone (or anything) who would try to harm it or its inhabitants, or helping the sick and the wounded - their healing abilities, while suffering slightly because of the Priestesses' heavy focus on combat, are still considerably better than good. Elune recognises them as her champions and offers them her power - the Priestesses of the Moon represent their ancient goddess' magnificent might and unparalleled grace.

While the number of male Night Elven Priests is gradually increasing, this rank is still reserved for female worshippers of the Moon Goddess.

Who Likes Them?

Night Elves respect and look up to these Priestesses. Even Priests of other faiths (except the obviously dark ones) may admire their devotion and skill. When they actually get involved in Alliance business, they are among the most treasured and respected warriors and healers. Darkcasters and almost all of those that seek to harm Night Elves and their forests feel only cold fear and burning hatred towards these Priestesses. They know that these women are hellbent on destroying all evil in the sacred groves and will stop at nothing if it means protecting their people and land.

  • None

Strengths

  • Archery

The Priestess' weapon of choice is the bow; she is a magnificent archer whose arrow rarely misses the target. There are very few archers who can match her skill.

  • Combat

The Priestess of the Moon is highly skilled in ranged combat and can use most of the traditional Night Elven weapons designed for this kind of fighting excellently. She can throw a spear or a dagger as well as she can shoot an arrow.

  • Commander

The Priestess of the Moon serves as a wise and inspirational leader of her people on and off the battlefield. She possesses a moderate amount of political power - Night Elves listen to her words, heed her advice and usually obey her commands.

  • Helper

The Priestess' helpful abilities aren't as great as her offensive magic, but she is still an excellent healer.

  • Pathfinder

The Priestess spends most of her time in the wilds and she knows the forests better than she knows the temples - a large and precise map seems to be inside her head. The sacred forests of the Night Elves are her weapons - she can hide, escape and lure enemies into traps easily. She knows every single tree, hill, river and pathway.

  • Warmistress

The Priestess of the Moon is not only an excellent warrior, but also a great tactician. She can command troops and manoeuvre easily even in large-scale battles.

Weaknesses

  • Combat

The Priestess may be a master shooter, but her close combat skills are significantly lesser and she is more than likely to lose such a fight.

  • Daytime

The most powerful of the Priestess' divine spells can only be cast at night, when the White Lady watches over her from the dark sky. When the sun rises, the difference between her and an ordinary Priestess becomes significantly smaller.

  • Devoutness

The Priestess of the Moon can do greater things with the divine than an ordinary Sister, but that also means that even the slightest waver of her faith can take away Elune's favour and leave her all but powerless.

  • Forestbound

The Priestess spends so much time in the blessed forests she has sworn to protect that the outside world begins to seem intimidating to her. She is likely to be extremely confused and perhaps even slightly fearful out of her usual environment.

  • Magic

The Priestess of the Moon is strong and sturdy and her strange armor can stop most physical attacks, but she is very vulnerable to magic.

  • Paranoia

The constant danger and battles cause the Priestess to gradually become overly careful, paranoid and prone to overreact.

Skills and Abilities

During their training, Priestesses of the Moon learn to use the abilities and gain the passive benefits listed below. However, it should be noted that Priestesses of the Moon can use most of the Priest abilities and some Warrior ones. What is listed below is available to no one but them.

Abilities

  • Shadowcall

While all Night Elves can meld with the shadows of the night, the Priestess of the Moon learns to become invisible to the untrained eye by wrapping the darkness around herself in a different way - even moving cannot destroy her cover. However, it should be noted that the Priestess still cannot attack while merged with shadows. This ability is only usable at night.

  • Moonshield

The Priestess of the Moon channels the divine energies of her faith, creating a large dome of bright moonlight. This magical shield protects her allies from any and all harm and unholy beings that step into this light are burned to a cinder in white fire. However, it cannot protect the Priestess. The shield does not require her to maintain it, but it disappears if she lets it go outside her field of vision.

  • Starfall

Starfall is the legendary spell Priestesses of the Moon are best known for. The Priestess turns starlight into powerful missiles of pure energy and calls down this devastating shower of falling stars to destroy her enemies and their structures.

  • Blessed Arrow

The Priestess infuses her arrow with divine energy, engulfing it in cold white flame. As it hits the target, it explodes in a flash of pale light and freezes those nearby for a moderate amount of time.

  • Dance of Spears

The Priestess furiously attacks her opponents with three spears, her moves similar to a strange dance. Her quick strikes are impossible to escape or dodge, but by performing this move she opens herself up to all attacks - a single quick blow can take her life.

Note
Note: The spells and abilities must be learned in this order.

Passive Benefits

  • Moonforged Armour

The Priestess' strange enchanted armour glows brightly. It can protect her from a lot physical attacks, but not from harmful magic. Its enchantments only amplify the damage inflicted upon the Priestess by her opponents' spells.

  • Saber's Might

The Priestesses are taught to tame and train the sacred Frostsabers of Winterspring. Her saber is the best of her companions, a loyal friend and a powerful warrior. Seeing the strange Priestess ride her saber into battle is a terrifying sight.

You may also choose one of these lesser passive benefits:

  • Moonfriend

Nearby uncorrupted Wildkin will protect the Priestess should she be in very serious danger.

  • Sharpshooter

The Blessed Arrow ability not only freezes opponents, but also does actual damage.

  • Nightcaller

The Priestess can use the Shadowcall ability to hide others.

Training Outline

The power will not come to the aspirant and the Sisters will not grant her the title if she does not strive for it. It is said that if the Priestess is strong and determined, if she works hard, if she hones her skills and if she pays homage to the Goddess, a sign will come. The sign marks the beginning of her ascension. A strange dream, its meaning impossible to understand, but easy to feel, will come to the aspirant as she sleeps, and when she wakes up, her urges and her need will take her to her future mentor. She will have to convince the Priestess to train her. The Priestess of the Moon will likely want to test the aspirant's skills. If the Priestess is satisfied, she will take her as her student.

The first part of the training will take place in a temple, probably the Temple of the Moon in Darnassus. The trainee will be taught new ways to harness and shape her spiritual power. The mentor will tell her about the life of a Priestess of the Moon - she will try to deter and discourage her to see if this ascension is what the aspirant really wants. Her power, will and faith will grow. She will have to go through a test before moving on to the next stage - the Priestess will send her terrifying visions to test her will and she will have to resist their frightful temptation. She will learn to use the Shadowcall, Moonshield and Starfall abilities. This concludes the first part of the training.

The second and the final part of the training will take place in the wilderness. She will train and hone her physical combat skills. She will learn to fight, to use a bow and many other ranged weapons. She will be taken to Winterspring, where she will be taught to tame and train Frostsabers. There she will tame her future companion. During this part of the training the trainee will learn to use the Blessed Arrow and Dance of Spears abilities. This concludes the second part of the training.

Once that is done, the trainee's abilities will be tested one last time. The Priestess will take her to ancient Highborne ruins or a temple, a place where Elune was once worshipped. There she will be forced to face ghosts, restless echoes and memories. Some of them will attack her and some of them will show her painful visions of the ancient past. In order to pass this final test, she will have to endure the pain the spirits will inflict upon her and fight off those hostile to her. If she passes it, the Priestess will take her to the Temple of the Moon in Darnassus, where the Sisters will acknowledge her as a Priestess of the Moon and give her a set of special armour.

This concludes the prestige training. Congratulations!
