High Divinist

Who are they?

A priest's strength comes from their faith. Whether Shadow or Holy, each has dedicated their lives to their chosen path. A High Divinist is, simply put, a priest who has -through dutiful study and effort- transcended the normal bonds of their faith. Their skills are esoteric. Their minds are singularly focused. Through faith and brilliance they have become something truly frightening and revered.

A High Divinist is someone who, brandishing their esoteric knowledge, has learned to wield their faith in new, bizarre ways. This uncommon set of skills make them a powerful, mysterious and fearsome opponent.

Who likes them?

The religious, mostly. They are commonly well liked among civilization for their pious demeanor and prowess in battle. High Divinists are usually also favored by their chosen race or any race that has ties with the same faith.

They are, however, feared in equal measure. They have uncommon skills and unusual abilities that vary from person to person. Every Divinist wields unique powers.

Training Outline

A High Divinist grows exclusively from the priest rank. One must consciously desire to become a High Divinist. It does not happen accidentally. An epiphany. A life goal. A means to an end. Anything can be used to drive someone to become a Divinist Aspirant.

A High Divinist must strengthen their own faith and connection with their chosen religion to proceed. Because of the vague nature of ‘strengthening faith', writing a Training Process –even an example- is strictly impossible. As such, below is a rough guide on how to craft and plan your own training process.

In the end, your training process should be based around your character's faith and desires. Discuss your ideas with a GM before proceeding.

Your first step should be identifying your character's faith. Night Elves believe in Elune. Trolls believe in Loa. Forsaken believe in the Cult of the Forgotten Shadow. Each race has a specific religious belief. Identify your races' belief and research the lore and background associated with it using resources such as WoWwiki and Wowpedia.

Next you should look into how members of your chosen race attain power through faith. Some religions, such as the Holy Light and Forgotten Shadow, have ‘tenants' which, when followed, grant strength and wisdom. Other religions, such as the trolls, revolve around esoteric rituals and rites to summon Loas and other spirits. Identify the concrete tasks one must follow to attain rank and power in your chosen religion.

Finally you should dip your toes in the metaphysical and ethics of your religion. As with all philosophical exercises, asking yourself questions is key. What do you, as a person and as your character, feel about your chosen religion? What do you believe its teachings stress? What do you believe is wrong in the religion? Religion in WoW is a difficult thing, revolving more on inner strength and perceptions then dogma or a code of conduct. Focus on what you, as a person and as a character, believe the religion is about and use that for your training

Now sit down and begin to sculpt an outline. First begin with the ‘Why': “Why does my character wish to delve deeper into the beliefs of my chosen religion?” This can be answered through personal reasons ranging from their upbringing to finding solace and peace in the teachings.

Next is the ‘What': “What will my character do to strengthen their beliefs?” The training process will require a religious figure from one church or another to play a major role. All Aspirants require Teachers. However, the lessons and wisdom the teacher imparts is up to you. What they teach you should be based on your own personal interpretations of the faith mixed with the tenants and codes of conduct that are inherent to the religion. Your interpretations on how to grow in faith should be mixed with the concrete paths you researched before.

The final point is ‘Finality': “What is the final task I must complete to prove my faith?” The final task can be a mission, feat of faith or simple test of skill. Anything that proves to the character –and no one else- that they have strong faith and a powerful connection with their religion is key. Inner perception is ideal.

Because of the difficulty of coming up with an outline, please consult a GM with your ideas and questions.

Active High Divinists

Currently there are no active High Divinists, so any applicants would have to create an NPC for the training.
