History
Dalaran in Azeroth
Dalaran was one of those city-states that bloomed in the Arathorian empire, and which led to Stratholme's weakening. Built in times immemorial, it has always been a major hub for all magical things in Azeroth. People fled the conservatism they encountered back in Stratholme, and built Dalaran and its economy. It has always been intended as a magical city. In time, it became the second city in Arathor.
As more and more mages gathered within its walls, some experiments went wrong and the fabric around was somewhat broken. It was an usual sight to spot demons and other magical entities roam free in the streets of the city. The Order of Tirisfal was founded when, afraid of military action on Strom's part, the magocracy turned to Silvermoon for help. Later, the Kirin Tor was created to oversee operations in Dalaran.
Dalaran gave fair amounts of mages and resources during the Second War.
A siege was laid on Dalaran when Prince Arthas attempted to grasp Medivh's spellbook. At such, many citizens of the fair city initially perished in the undead assault. Shortly after, Archimonde himself sundered Dalaran, and left it in ruins.
Months later, remaining members of the Kirin Tor gathered, and enterprised to rebuild Dalaran. Alliance General Garithos led the group into the city, banished its undead members, and protecting the area thanks to a mighty dome, began the reconstruction of the city.
Dalaran in Northrend
Dalaran was moved to Northrend, in Crystalsong Forest. It still lingers, floating around the area. Prior to the death of the Lich King, it served as a last bastion defiantly holding the ground from the undead. Blue dragonflights are also a threat and fought menace.
Nowadays, Dalaran is easily the greatest city and most populated civilized territory in Northrend. It nonetheless keeps away from the settling of the continent by Horde and Alliance forces.
Population & Government
Dalaran is ruled by the Kirin Tor. The High Council directly tends to the city's proper maintenance and operations.
Dalaran is nowadays home to slightly more than 3'000 people. Many races are found in the city's street, but the main flavors include Humans, High Elves, Blood Elves, Gnomes, and a few Goblins.
Dalaran has been independant ever since its reconstruction. Warring the Scourge, it nonetheless favors the Alliance in its negotiations.
Travelling to Dalaran
Travelling to Dalaran can prove a tricky thing. The flight network above Northrend serves the city, and it is possible, yet hasardous, to reach the city through its holdings in Crystalsong Forest.
The GM Island Portal lists Dalaran under Neutral Hubs. Mages can teleport people to Dalaran, provided they have knowledge of the ley line fabric there.
