I hate the red links for talk pages, so I figured that I'd leave a comment and fix that. Huzzah!  Piroska . T C 11:42, 1 February 2012 (PST)

Build Guild Box Template!

I saw that you added a table to your guild's page that is similar to what I had on The Regiment and also the newly created charbox template. I'm thinking about templating that to make it easier for use in the future. Are there any specific parameters that you would consider helpful, beyond what I've got right now? I'm thinking:

  • Faction
  • Guild name
  • Image
  • Leader
  • Officers
  • Members
  • Motto
  • Thread on forum

This way, instead of writing out the damned code every time people could just use the template. Plus it would make updating the table easier since then I (or someone else) could just edit the template rather than go through and find every instance of the table. Feel free to reply here; I'll watch this page for your reply. Thanks!  Piroska . T C 18:29, 21 February 2012 (PST)

Corrected heading name. Silly me!  Piroska . T C 18:30, 21 February 2012 (PST)

Yes....YES!!!

The template sounds like an awesome idea! And I did blatantly use the Regiment as my example. I also use this template on Axestorm Smithing. So go for it! ^^  Jonoth. T C 18:30, 21 February 2012 (PST)

Consider it done! I threw together the template this evening after doing some regular maintenance stuffs. Let me know if there are any parameters that you think should be added; I basically added everything that I listed above. You don't need to use all of the parameters (every single one is optional) if they don't apply to your guild.  Piroska . T C 21:59, 21 February 2012 (PST)
I applied it to both of my guild pages and it makes for very neat code! You are awesomesauce Piroska!  Jonoth. T C 07:20, 22 February 2012 (PST)

New Template Questions and

Piroskaaaaaa!!! I modified your template into a new Characterbox one. Let me know what you think! I just have a couple of questions:

  • I use RaceIcon at the top, but for Forsaken, it breaks because the icon is listed as Undead. Any way to get the RaceIcon template to accept either Undead or Forsaken as the race input?
  • I'm also considering making a whole character sheet template for profiles, but I hesitate due to not knowing if that would be too restrictive for those who wish to mod their own pages.
  • I'm working on a way to distinguish IC and OOC class (ie IC Witch Doctor, OOC Shaman). Will try and get that done tonight.

Any feedback would be appreciated  Jonoth. T C 19:07, 22 February 2012 (PST)

I saw, I saw!
  • I could probably tweak the Forsaken icon template so that both terms can be utilized. I'll put it on my list of future things to do. Figure on something by the week's end; if you don't hear from me or see the changes, feel free to bother me.
  • Creating a profile template should be fine. Most people don't edit their profiles (less than thirty people have been active over the past month and more than half of them are staff members), so I don't see too much issue. Especially if it makes your job easier and prevents someone from me from going back and formatting everything afterwards. If a member doesn't want the template applied on his character's article, he can always remove it and start from there.
  • How are you planning on distinguishing these classes? Generally, I'd avoid creating new categories, since this would create a myriad of new (and probably unnecessary) categories that would bloat the Character category since played could ideally claim to be anything (cook, farmer, knight, lord, politician, blah blah blah). Other than that, I can't think of anything that would stand in your way.
I'm still going through and formatting old profiles and articles. I've also created a Character article. This is going to be a place to link to all sort of character information, including profiles that existed prior to this revision. Also, I've been using a Disambiguations category with the idea that we can use it in order to avoid overwriting existing, non-current profiles.
Per people's requests, my next big project is writing a compendium to the wiki and wikitext. A number of people have approached me asking for information or a guide, so I figure that it would be a good thing. Other than that, I've still got the completion of the zone articles to do. Work work!  Piroska . T C 12:00, 23 February 2012 (PST)
For the classes I would like to make a conditional that if an IC Class is present, it lists that name (ie Witch Doctor) where it says class, but the link is still to the OOC class. I wouldn't create a new category for every variant, just a way that the IC Variant links to it's OOC class.
I'll also do some exploratory work on the profile template. I just think it will make it easier to put stuff in while creating a clean and easy to read format. It'll also make it easy to change all profiles in one swoop if we want an different formatting/page structure. I'll structure it to look like some of the people pages on wikipedia, with an automatically generated opening paragraph that reads something like "Captain Jonoth Shyemlye (Jonoth) is a 31-year-old male Forsaken Buccaneer. He is associated with The Bloodpaw."  Jonoth. T C 15:02, 23 February 2012 (PST)
  • I created Profile and made modifications to Characterbox. It shows what I meant by the IC/OOC class thing, and also has params for deceased characters (one to say if the char is alive, and the other to describe how the character dies). Take a look when you get a chance at my sandbox where I have a sample up for Tun'kar. And yes, that really is how he died XD  Jonoth. T C 17:26, 23 February 2012 (PST)
  • Made more changes and using Jonoth as the test dummy page. I even got the forsaken to change over to Undead so the images would read properly! Updated the definitions on the pages.  Jonoth. T C 19:42, 23 February 2012 (PST)
Well, bugger. I added a variable to the raceicon template so that Forsaken is now an acceptable option. I probably should've checked here first! Oh well. That'll probably help some people in the future who choose to use Forsaken instead of Undead!  Piroska . T C 17:11, 24 February 2012 (PST)

Outdated and no-longer applicable articles

Sir Jonoth! I'm uncertain as to how much you crawl through the wiki, but I recently created two templates ({{Outdated}} and {{Removed from server}}) intended to help improve the wiki. The former is to tag articles that should be updated or improved. The latter is for things that no longer apply to Conquest of the Horde but remain for historical purposes. If you stumbled across any articles where either of those templates would be appropriate, I would be very appreciative if you added them.

On that note, off to tag (or restore, as the case may be) some old prestige articles. I noted the Prestige Title article is still ranked among the top ten most-visited articles (and I see that some other articles are listed in the top fifty), so I want to make sure that people are aware that these topics are no longer applicable. Thanks again!  Piroska . T C 16:05, 24 February 2012 (PST)

Guides

The guide looks wonderful! It's beautiful and it's perfect and it's amazing -- and I've run out of adjectives. Just imagine another five or so to round it out. Let me know if you need any help with this project; I'll help as I'm able. Thank you!  Piroska . T C 09:41, 27 March 2012 (PDT)
