Appearance

Munaik is a somewhat gaunt man; while he does not have the build of a warrior he does seem spry enough to maneuver about a battlefield, and is clearly a combatant honed more upon evading and mitigating blows. He is certainly undead on first glance-- spots of darkened skin are visible on much of his body, and if nothing else carries the scent of undeath upon him (as well as his various alchemical dusts and concoctions). He usually is draped in a robe covering plate or a plated vestment and cassock. He almost constantly wears a cloak and hood, and carries his spear alongside him as if it were a walking stick.

Other: Often has a self-penned book of sermons, rites and rituals to the Forgotten Shadow along his side, chained to his person.

Personality

Munaik can seem a bit peculiar at first glance. Unlike many of his kind he often shows a rather sunny disposition, seeming to embrace his undeath quite well-- by his own interpretation however this was a certain and expected turn eventually due to his craft, and it was one merely pushed upon him earlier than expected. In his own mind there are worse things, simply put-- he could have been raised as a ghoul. Having been entrenched in the world of the undead for a large part of his actual life he has come to acclimate himself to his new state rather well.

That being said, he was a fairly spiteful and unsettling man to begin with so there's a fairly good chance this will fail to shine through regardless. Though he can be cheerful he is also vindictive and judgmental, often looking down upon any who do not follow in the ways of the Forgotten Shadow. He is very distrusting to those not of his own fold.

History

Munaik was born in Eastern Lordaeron, during the second war. Born to a merchant family in Caer Darrow, he was often regarded as a bit of a darker child, often removing himself from his peers and brooding over texts he would borrow from the family store's stock. He was interested in the arcane and magic in general from a young age, and though his family was wary of his interests they did allow him to take flight to Dalaran after his schooling in Lordaeron was complete.

Though he was deeply involved in his studies, Munaik never excelled in the schools of arcane. He showed an interest in frost magic, but beyond that had difficulty taking an intense interest in the other fields. He nonetheless pressed on in his schooling, though as he aged he found himself attracted to the darker spectrum of magic; particularly warlockery and necromancy, as murmering had begun about the city after the departure of one of the archmagi over such a subject. He as well found himself expelled from both his schooling and the city after he began to pursue a similar interest-- but, undettered, he took flight to the mountains of Alterac nearby, continuing his studies and practicing his craft in secret.

When the Third War came, Munaik seized his opportunity to follow his passion for necromancy. Shortly after the fall of Caer Darrow he returned to his home, ghouls in tow, eager to join the ranks of the Scourge. His years of isolation and deep entrenchment into the works of Necromancy led him to be quite comfortable within the Cult of the Damned; for some time he followed alongside them, raising the dead and engaging the remnants of Lordaeron in battle. However as time carried on he began to feel less connected with their ideology; particularly after the break between the Forsaken and the Scourge he found himself fascinated by the self-serving tenets of the Forgotten Shadow, and the more he found himself ruminating upon the concept of the Forsaken's religion the more appealing he found it-- pledging to oneself and their own good in the stead of another (in this case, of course, the Lich King). It was years later that he decided to cast his lot in with the ranks of the Forsaken.

Or, try to. He was found a deserter and captured not long into his escape. He found himself cut down by a group of ghouls, and returned to the Scourge's fold. If he had power but not devotion, there were ways of 'coercing' a mind...

Munaik found himself reawakening in Acherus some time later, mind cleared of doubt and body strengthened by the Scourge's power. His morbid obsessions made him an easy mind to master, and thus he served the Lich King once more, this time in a different capacity. He served, and reveled in it.

When the hold was broken he found himself in a confused stupor; the words exchanged between the Argents and Ebon Blade were nothing but a hollow whisper as he found himself fighting off the vestiges of the Lich King's control. After a moment he realized that only one voice was left urging him onwards; his own. Though he left the Battle of Light's Hope as a member of the new Ebon Blade, he left it as a free man, devoted to the Forgotten Shadow.

He found himself ordered to Stormwind to recant his alliances and rejoin the world as a member of one of the two factions pitted against both one another and the evils of the world-- however he did not stay long, returning to Acherus shortly thereafter. He kept company with the Ebon Blade through most of the war against the Lich King, and while within was an avid preacher of the Forgotten Shadow-- a faith he found some resonance with in the Death Knight order. As the war began to wind down he found himself idle when returning to the Plaguelands, and thus he began to roam-- taking pilgrimages to different cities and sites desecrated by the Scourge for his own recollection. Though a member of the Alliance in technicality he met with many of the Forsaken on his travel through the neutral territories of the Scourge's path, and was able to pen many rituals from bands of priests or offer aid in the forms of his more esoteric healing. He was a bit of a misfit, regardless-- unable to come into the fold of the Forsaken, but much too entrenched in the macabre to rejoin society entirely in Stormwind. As such he continued to roam, keeping company with travelers not adverse to his arts as they moved through the Plaguelands and pursuing further arts of alchemy and inscription on his travels.

Then again, perhaps there was something more of interest out there... Munaik has found himself brooding over the possibility of further travel, with much of the Plaguelands trodden over. He may see more of the world yet.

Skills and Abilities

Munaik was formerly a necromancer, and as such has an intensive draw towards the unholy side of a Death Knight's craft. His ability to summon and control undead has waned since his rebirth as a death knight, but his control of unholy magic still is quite firm. In the way of combat he prefers spears, and a bit of a gap between himself and his foe. Among his normal abilities are:

Dark Mender
Munaik is skilled in the art of necromancy-- or at least, he was. Though his powers have waned, his skill has not; he is able to carve and craft flesh, apply stitches and other procedures, medical or not, on undead. He can also apply healing balms and ichors which can improve the condition of the body. It is worth noting, of course, that he is by no means an actual surgeon. Almost any procedure he can carry out would be extremely deadly to the living.
Alchemist
A good experience of the field of alchemy has yielded Munaik a fair skill at the craft. He mostly uses his skills to concoct ichors, balms, and plagues or similar things, though is also capable of most normal potions.
Spiritvine Wine
'Spirits for the spirits'. Essentially a product of idle craft, the wine is actually a potion that recreates a minor feeling of euphoria as well as other minor effects, meant to give the impression of light inebriation. It's worth noting, however, that any living person would likely find the taste too strong to manage despite its light effects.
Inscriptionist
Munaik is capable of creating scrolls to empower himself and his allies temporarily, as well as augmentations for armor and other basic works of the trade. Most scrolls and prints are made in the form of Forgotten Shadow texts, and when read aloud to invoke are often battlecries and brief sermons.
