Character Full Name: Visette (Pronounce V-set) Elina Highstride

Character In-Game Name: Visette

Nickname(s): None

Association(s): Currently Sin'dorei rebels.

Race: Sin'dorei (Blood Elf)

Class: Mage

Age: 132

Sex: Female

Hair: Stark white. Very straight when not held in the bun she most often keeps it in.

Eyes: Fel touched green. Her eyes are perhaps the most vibrant things about her---where many Sin'dorei have a muted glow, hers is constantly a blazing emerald. A wonder she did not fall to Fel corruption...in some manner, perhaps, she has.

Weight: 122

Height: 6

Usual Garments/Armor: Visette is most often found in an assortment of robes and gowns when not doing anything particularly important. However, her lust for magic becomes obvious in her more 'proper' adornments. She rarely wears something that does not glow, or have one magical essence or another.

Other: Visette's skin is very, very pale. While not quite going to sickly route (her skin isn't translucent, it's just very fair), it's easy to notice. Her hair seems equally bleached of color. While she upholds a certain grace and nobility about herself, it's far easier to notice that she's a bit wild when it comes to her frosty uses of magic. She seems to enjoy it a little too much.

Aside from that, physically Visette has little to offer. Her strength is lacking, and physical feats she performs are typically augmented by the arcane in some way or another. While she is known to use a sword, it is typically more along the means of parrying than an aggressive swing. And all of her weapons are somehow enchanted.

Personality: It'd be easy to just say her personality is 'cold' as it matches the rest of her attributes. This isn't precisely true... while her voice is a faint alluring rasp, and her talents revolve around unforgiving ice and measure arcane, she is obviously enthused by the prospect of using either.

She loves magic, and she loves it to the point where it's not likely entirely normal. When the High Elves discovered their plight of addiction, she was probably one who was not surprised. At all. In fact, she seems to see absolutely nothing wrong with indulging in all forms of magic and/or self serving enjoyment completely without apology.

This causes her to need to consume mana frequently to satisfy herself or, for that matter, just to evoke the power...maybe out of habit, or a twisted sense of security. It's difficult to tell just why she enjoys it all so much. Some people are just a little odd.

History: Visette has a childhood that, for the most part, is nondescript and boring. She was alive in the 'blue eyed' days, though not much has changed about her at all. She always believed in and was grateful for the natural arcane channeling abilities of her people. When she was sent to be educated in one art or another, she dove into the learning with everything she had.

Back then, it was called ambition rather than insanity. Visette still holds that she is not insane...in fact, she may very well not be. She's a functional addict, and as most of them she's rather grounded...even though her life revolves around her addiction and self satisfaction. Regardless of these qualities being obvious when she was a child, nothing was done about it.

Among her culture, there's little to nothing wrong with that, after all.

When she was born, her hair was a vibrant gold. When she was young, her skin was warming to a matching warm shade. When she dove into the arcane arts, the color fell from her steadily. The skin, it is said, was just because she did not go outside during her studies and less so when the Sunwell was destroyed. Her hair, no one's really sure about. The change was gradual... and although arcane use is supposedly related to hair losing color, this tends to happen later in the lives of mages.

She'd have to have channeled a great deal of Arcane in her learning years. This is very probable.

During the battles which resulted in the destruction of the Sunwell, Visette did very little. She applied as civilian without a doubt...so on any occasion when unarmed Sin'dorei were fleeing from the ravaging Scourge, she very well could have been among that terrified rabble. While she did fight once, that was out of desperation and self defense. It was after the destruction of the Sunwell (and after she'd 'beaten' the addiction) that she learned to use any weapon aside from applying her knowledge of magic to battle.

When the Sunwell was destroyed... well, she was a wreck. This is when one of three major questions of her story comes into play. First is... why did her skin and hair lose color? That's not really important, but often pondered at. Second would be...why, of all Sin'dorei, did she not end up one of the mindless mana starved husks in old Silvermoon?

Luck and family history. Her two elder brothers (twins) both died during the battles with the Scourge. One was a Blood Knight squire, one was a burgeoning Arcanist. Her father, Tilise Highstride, was an enchanter of objects and crystals alike. Her mother...well, she's not certain who her mother is, and doesn't recall meeting her. She was born in more carefree times, where all that really mattered was that the child was cared for. It never got to her that her mother was most likely a whore---off topic.

Her brothers were both killed, her father was driven insane by the withdrawal and killed himself. He was rather elderly, and apparently his mind was far gone far too quickly to realize he had an entire storehouse full of mana-addiction problem solvers. Visette didn't realize this either.

When the decision was made to take in Fel energies to sate the population, Visette partook in this decision eagerly. Even before the Sunwell fell, she'd likely have been called an addict by some. The fact that her mind did not fray during this time is another mystery, and most likely further attributed to luck. Either way, she took in the Fel energies...and enjoyed them most likely far more than was required to keep her alive. Something she, on the surface, got away with. The fact that her eyes blaze emerald gives away her indulgence to this day.

That, and an odd 'temper' issue. As detached or oddly amused as she may seem, she has been known to 'snap' in certain situations. A loss of rational thought, though it'd be an extreme stretch to call it a bloodlust. Rather, she loses her bearings on what amount of magic would be a good idea and what wouldn't be. She's managed impressive uses of power, but can exhaust herself quickly---expending energy, on one occasion, until she hardly had enough left in her to keep breathing when she passed out. The Fel taint will most likely never leave her, at least not what it's done to her mind.

In that regard, she'd likely have continued to deteriorate... but luck struck again. It always seems to find the least deserving. At some point, she discovered her father's storehouse of enchanted goods and crystals...and using them sparingly, it was enough to sate her without diving headlong into the nearest demonic evocation circle.

In fact, picking up her father's trade and selling these goods made her comfortably affluent in the following times.

The final question is certainly... why did she not end up one of Rommath's fel sworn? As much as she enjoyed copious uses of fel energies when there was no choice, she'd have been easily influenced by his wiles.

The answer to that question, oddly enough, is greed. He was bad for business for her, and she wasn't certain she'd be allowed to continue such a mutedly lavish lifestyle with his eyes over her shoulder constantly. She, also, had become accustomed to feeding her addiction on various forms of magic---and even quieted the need in some right, by concentrated meditation. In truth, it's a vise to her much along the lines of smoking. She's well aware of how detrimental it is to her, but then she'll boldly go about picking which flavor she'd like and overindulging anyway.

With Rommath in power, she feared she'd only ever taste one flavor for the rest of her life. Begrudging to the decision, she packed up her shop and hid in the 'underground' rebel resistance. Quietly selling mana crystals and enchantments, attempting to stay to the background of things just on the chance they lost and she needed to be able to rejoin the population of Silvermoon.

That never happened either. When the plan was hatched to escape Silvermooon, she was forced into a decision. Fleeing with the rebels to Undercity, a resignation formed that now she was very much part of things.

So there are the answers. Skin/hair color? Addiction. Why didn't she become a mindless hungerer? Greed and luck both. Why isn't she a Fel Sworn? Bad luck, and luck. cateogory:mage
