Appearance

Usual Equipment: Ural is usually seen in a fine set of thick cloth. Greens and bronzes adorn his garb in visual respect to both the Bronzebeard and Wildhammer clans. He wears a Wildhammer Tabard unless he’s on Kirin Tor business.

Other: The ley walker carries a single paintbrush the size of his thumb. Along with it is a tube of thick green paint. Both are enclosed in a small leather holder and kept in his pants pocket.

Personality

Ural seems like a rather tame dwarf compared to his kin. He values the ability to restrain one’s natural impulses. This facade wears down as he gets comfortable in his environment. Those close to Ural will discover a warm personality and his hospitality typical of the Broadhill Clan. He enjoys the thrill of battle and when his skills are put to the test. In times of peace Ural becomes restless. During these times he busies himself with political intrigue and painting. He has a passive-aggressive attitude for the city of Dalaran. This is partially because he believes it should be a sort of perfect mage-utopia. When this frustration gets the better of him, Ural returns to a more natural environment.

History

Ural was the second eldest son to Farin Broadhill, an established Thane. His youngest years were unimpressive and though his adolescence there was a sense of quiet expectation. He began to understand this was because his older brother was next in line for thanehood. He had left sometime before he was born. Instead of trying to live up to that expectation, Ural choose a different path altogether. He committed himself to the study of the arcane. Yet he honored his Clan by learning their traditions. And while he was offered the chance to experience the Wildhammer side of the clan, Ural politely declined in favor of his mystical studies. He did not believe the hill dwarves had anything to offer him.

Years later the two brothers were finally introduced to each other. Ural was pretty nervous and detached about the meeting. Part of him hoped that Tarin would be the same. Much to Ural’s surprise, his brother treated him as close as any brother could hope for! Tarin was well on his way being groomed for thanehood and it was epitomized by his affection for his family. Ural’s idea of a proper dwarf was what he saw in his father and mentors. Quiet, reserved and wise were the attributes Ural appreciated the most. There was rowdiness in his charismatic brother that Ural simply blamed the Wildhammers for. He brushed it off until he mentioned it in passing to one of his mage instructors. He replied teasingly that there are wise leaders for each clan. This was something Ural wanted to see for himself!

Ural wasn’t impressed upon arriving at Broadhill Peak. A martial presence and ‘dirt-worshippers’ did nothing to garner the dwarf’s eye. As such he kept to himself and for a few days, all was well. Then some of the hill dwarves got wind of who Ural was. Suddenly the dwarf had more friends then he knew what to do with! A rowdy night loosened up Ural enough that he finally began asking to meet these ‘wise Wildhammers’. Of course he was pointed to every Shaman in the village in the hopes he would find what he was looking for. Unconvinced, Ural quietly withdrew from the center of attention. A few calm days later he was approached by another Bronzebeard. He said his name was Rorgin and that he had an eye on Ural. He asked a great many questions and learned much of Ural and the Broadhill Clan. Before Ural could return any questions, Rorgin simply stated that he was the one Ural was looking for. Rorgin called himself a Leywalker and could teach him a great many things that ‘city-magi’ could not. Ural was immediately fascinated by this charismatic dwarf. The two remained somewhat detached from the village for a time.

A few quiet years later, Tarin returned and took a wife. This got Ural involved more in the Wildhammer society as his interest perked. He couldn’t deny that Uncle Ural had a nice ring to it. As much as he enjoyed his brother’s kids, Ural didn’t want anything to do with his rustic wife. He was disappointed in the example Tarin left for a proper dwarven marriage. Such trivialities were soon forgotten when the Orcish horde invaded Loch Modan. While Tarin handled the leading and evacuation of civilians, Ural headed for the battlefront. He couldn’t help but to feel frustrated with being pushed back by the Orcs. He had hoped to redeem himself upon arriving in Ironforge to lend his support. This was also not the case. Eventually, the Orcs retreated and peace swept over the lands of Khaz Modan once again. Ural took this time to seek out his former mentors in the capital city. They suggested he travel to the great magi-city of Dalaran to further his training. The dwarf didn’t particularly care for this idea from his time with Rorgin, but Ural was still sore with the way he combated the Orcs. This was the sole reason he recommitted to improving his offensive capabilities.

The rising tensions between the Bronzebeards and Wildhammers after the Second War did not slip past Ural. He did not appreciate the elders questioning his brother’s leadership abilities. Ural returned to the Wildhammer Village to give counsel to his brother once again. It had been like no time had passed between the two brothers. His first real chance to practice in battle came during the expedition to the frozen wastes of Northrend. While he was there for the combat experience, Ural couldn’t help but to be annoyed at the constant presence of a Dalaran Mage. Over time Ural realized his angst was more at his brother’s waning leadership skills during this difficult campaign. In the end the trip proved to be enough adventure for Ural. While he wished to retire back to the Wildhammer Village, the Broadhill name was tarnished with the failed expedition. Ural returned to Dalaran instead.

Officially, Ural can be found bouncing between the political realms of Ironforge and Dalaran. However the dwarf frequently sneaks out to look for adventures. He is still committed to the Wildhammer Clan and champions their best interests wherever he goes.

Skills and Abilities

The dwarf is an adept evoker of fire. Other iconic mage abilities suffer due to his narrow focus. Likewise, he has adapted the discipline of Ley-walking to improve his spell-casting abilities.

  • On the Move: Ural has traversed the world via the ley lines. A few steps while casting are comparatively trivial. Greater spells require a firm footing as normal. Firestarter, Blast Wave, Improved Flamestrike, Improved Hot Streak
  • Crucible: The fire Ural weaves is augmented to burn longer and brighter than most magi. This effect amplifies spells cast in succession. Ignite, Combustion, Critical Mass
  • Regeneration: Most wounds suffered by the dwarf are mended upon drawing the energies of the ley lines into himself. Glyph of Evocation
  • Rune-scribe: Ural understands rune-casting and is able to scorch a pattern onto a surface. He knows of two patterns; one for a delayed explosion that serves as a trap and another that burns though whatever it is cast upon until it consumes the fuel or is dispelled. Flamestrike
