Personality

Alignment: Neutral Good

Umma loves life. Whether it is a tiny plant or insect, or the greatest dragon, every living thing amazes her. She is fascinated by the complex interactions between different species in an area as well as the land itself. Umma values her friends and allies highly and is very loyal. She is upbeat and helpful, always on the lookout for new and interesting people, and loves a good scientific conversation. She pays a lot of attention to behavioral cues and body language, although she is less skilled at reading humanoid patterns than she is at figuring out animal behavior. She disapproves of the logging of Ashenvale, but she's keeping quiet for the time being. She is very wary of undead and warlocks in particular, because of their saturation with questionable magic. Still, she is rarely rude to anyone, regardless of race or profession. She finds the settled lifestyle of Thunder Bluff and other villages peaceful but boring. She will often visit for a time, but spends most of her days roaming the plains and learning about her environment firsthand.

History

For as long as she can remember, Umma wandered the plains of Kalimdor with her father, Honovi Earthtender. He was a solitary druid, and he taught her most of what she knows about the land and its inhabitants. From him Umma learned to respect all beings, to be a steward of her surroundings. She recognized that the land can shape the population that depends upon it, but also that those who use the land can change its very nature. Umma and her father experienced relatively little of the conflict between the Horde and Alliance, as they were generally tucked away in some little-traveled corner of Mulgore or the Barrens. Honovi had traveled more in his youth and seen battle, but he didn't bring up these experiences with his daughter. He knew that civilization is transitory and that getting caught up in the bickering between sides would waste time that could be better used in study. He spent a few years in Moonglade and passed on much of what he learned there to his daughter. She was particularly affected by the knowledge that the Barrens was once a rich forest with Elven villages. She has a particular interest in arid and desert areas, and finding out if steps can be taken to bring them back to a fertile balance.

Honovi recently passed away from old age. After a respectful and somber funeral, Umma visited her settled elders to begin her rites of the Great Hunt. Without the protection and guidance of her father, she will need to be able to rely on herself and continue her studies on her own. It is a bittersweet time for her. On one hand, she will certainly miss her father, but on the other hand, she is excited to continue his work and to be able to learn, study, and travel all on her own.
