History

Ulfried was born in Gilneas, just before the Second War erupted. Ulfried's parents were poor farmers who lived on the outskirts of the main city. When the war began, Ulfried's father was drafted into the army and sent to aid the Alliance, while his mother cared for him and tried to make do on her own.

Within a few years, the Greymane Wall was built, and Ulfried's father had not returned. His mother, Clare soon heard that he had died in battle, and she cried for months. Ulfried, age 5 at the time, did not understand what was going on, but after a long day at the Cathedral, one hot summer day, he returned home to find his mother had hung herself. He thought he could bring her back, even calling the guards for help, but nothing could be done. He was an orphan now, but one knight offered help.

Sir Phillip of Gilneas was his proudly bestowed name, and he held the honor of caring for Ulfried until he could find some foster parents. Ulfried was 7 years old, when Phillip finally found him a new home in the city, where he could still keep an eye on him. This new home offered Ulfried a father by the name of Clarence, a mother by the name of Anne, and a sister 4 years his senior by the name of Clarisse. Clarence was a knight of Gilneas, like Phillip, while Anne was a priestess of the Light. Clarisse was a kind, yet strong sister, getting Ulfried to spar with her on more than one occasion.

Ulfried's life passes uneventfully until the age of 18. The Northgate Rebellion occurred, setting off the Gilnean Civil War, and thus, Sir Phillip, Clarence, and Anne were called to aid the Gilnean Knights to quell the rebels led by Lord Darius Crowley. Ulfried and Clarisse stayed at home, and were later moved to a more secure house closer to the center of Gilneas. Crowley and his men were captured and imprisoned eventually, and all was good, until Alpha Prime and his worgen beasts attacked, along with the Forsaken, 8 years later.

Ulfried and Clarisse were told by their family, as well as Sir Phillip, to stay at home, but Clarisse snuck off, telling Ulfried not to tell anyone where she was going. She took her crossbow and bolts, as well as her leather armor, and left Ulfried alone in the house. He was scared, but he didn't want anything to happen to his adoptive sister, so he put on his black leather armor, pulled out a dagger he had fashioned out of stone, and left the house, skulking in the shadows as he witnessed soldiers fighting the beasts.

He climbed onto a roof of a nearby house, and lifted his head in time to see a feral worgen rip Clarisse's arm to shreds, her screams echoing throughout Gilneas. Ulfried froze in terror, as his sister slowly died in the claws of this...beast. When the beast looked at Ulfried, adrenaline rushed through his veins and he ran at the worgen, brandishing his stone dagger, and began repeatedly stabbing the beast in the torso, crying while doing so, and accidentally swallowing it's blood in the process. As the beast fell, Ulfried felt dizzy and collapsed from the roof, falling down to the ground, where he was found by Sir Phillip.

Next thing he knows, Ulfried is waking up in his home, with Phillip tending to him. He lifted his head up and asked in a hoarse whisper, “Ph-Phillip... What..What happened?”

“Shh Ulfried. You must stay quiet, and rest. I will explain everything when the time comes..” And at that, Ulfried passed out again, not waking up again until days later in a medical tent near the Cathedral, surrounded by human and worgen alike. Ulfried screamed, but was stifled quickly by Sir Phillip, who put a finger to his mouth, before explaining, “Those beasts that attacked.. They were feral worgen, those cursed by some weird..thing.. Lord Darius Crowley and his men were released and fended off the feral beasts and Forsaken, allowing many to escape to safety. You..You were infected by the blood of one of the feral worgen... You are a worgen now, Ulfried, but you are not a feral beast... The Kaldorei have come to help you control it, and these worgen you see behind me are our allies... Fear not, Ulfried. We will take our home back from those undead bastards..”

Ulfried merely nodded, glancing down and noticing his arms were covered in fur and he could smell and hear everything much better. But he also wanted to hunt. Before he could act on instinct, a Kaldorei Druid kneeled before him, smiling and offering him some water and food. Ulfried took both in his large paws, before speaking, in a gruff, wolfish voice, “Th-thank you.. Kaldorei... You..help me?” The Kaldorei simply nodded, standing up before offering Ulfried a hand which he politely declined, standing up on his own. Once up, he realized just how big he was, towering over the humans and even some other worgen, who seemed to be doing the same thing as he was with the Kaldorei.

“Now, young worgen, close your eyes and focus on your true form.” The Kaldorei Druid said calmly. Ulfried obliged, but all he could think of was his new, worgen form, which he explained to the Kaldorei. “I see, well focus on your former, human form. I am going to teach you how to shift between your two forms.” Ulfried tries, and finally gets it, and the two practice for a few days before Ulfried is told he is doing well and may leave. He thanks the druid who spent so much time with him, before grunting in pain and falling to the ground, his vision pulsating red, and he ran. This pain was all too real to Ulfried, though it was superficial. It was reliving the memory of witnessing his sister's death that caused it, yet he believed fully that a cure could be feral worgen blood. He ran into the city, ignoring the cries to stop, and before he knew it, he was standing over the corpse of a feral worgen still remaining within the now-broken walls of Gilneas. Once it's blood entered his mouth, the apparent pain and pulsating stopped. He returned to the druids, asking for several vials he could use. They obliged, though confused, and Ulfried filled 6 vials full of feral worgen blood, putting them in a satchel he received from Sir Phillip. He would then drink a very small dose of the blood every time he experienced his apparent headaches, and would try to hide it from others as best he could.

Once he and his fellow worgen were gathered together, the Kaldorei took them to the Waters of Taldoren so complete a ritual required to keep their sanity intact. Ulfried and the others participated willingly, and within a few short days, they were all welcome to either stay with the Kaldorei in their lands, or venture abroad on their own. Ulfried decided to leave, though not before thanking the Kaldorei who helped him and his kind.

Ulfried donned his black leather outfit, took his dagger, as well as his satchel, and left the Kaldorei lands. Where did he go? Anywhere. He was a wanderer now, but he may have found a new home in a small cottage just outside of Stormwind to call his own, and a possible home with the clan of Ridaken, after being offered to join as a new member of the clan, and accepting.
