Appearance

She usually dresses in black and other dark colors, either elegant evening gowns for meeting other of her station, or leathers and furs for when she takes to the wild. She also has a set of dark mail armor she uses for situations that call for intimidation or protection.

Other: She wears the iron band of her grandfather around her braid of blonde hair. She has thick but well groomed sideburns that jut down to her square jawline, and flow out in a way similar to a lynx.

Personality

Alignment: Neutral Evil

Thidlynn is as hard as a Dun Morogh winter. Years of tough upbringing has made her reserved in the company of others, her face often bearing a near-permanent scowl. She fights the sins of her father, but his lessons are so ingrained into her that she often can't help but to respond to situations in the brutal way he would. She lusts for power and recognition, but will not go out of her way to do things terrifyingly monstrous. She is somewhat paranoid at times, though, and is fond of using espionage to gain the upper hand.

Thydlynn is also highly educated and well-versed in politics, as her father had hoped to pass her on to a prestigious husband and did not want her to seem dull or dim-witted. Her Dwarven accent is faint most of the time, as Kangrid hired a scholar to teach her proper pronunciation of common. This was due to her frequent rejection of Dwarven suitors, causing Kangrid to begin preparations to try and pass her off to Human nobility.

To this day, she cannot eat boar meat as a result of the cruel murder of her pet. To even bring one to her table would potentially be an offense punishable by death. This often leads to awkward situations since boar is a very common dish in her region.

History

The story of Thidlynn Ironbraid starts with her grandfather, Reigndig, a warrior from the War of the Three Hammers. Gifted an iron band by his wife to wear in his hair, the token of affection would come to later save his life. During one pitched battle, Reigndig lost his helm, and the Dark Iron he faced was poised to make the kill. The enemy had been weakened in the fight, and his axe had been blunted, so his weapon did not cut through the iron band at his neck's side. His life was saved, and he gained the name Ironbraid as a result, but the axe did damage his neck for the rest of his days, causing him to live in great pain and to wear a brace to steady his head.

Reigndig was given the honorary title of Thane and a small plot of land on a cliff overlooking Dun Morogh. His suffering became his son's, who growing up under the abuse of his father. When his son could no longer bear the weight of the abuse, he killed his father in his sleep with a dagger, puncturing his neck where the axe had failed to do its job. No one outside of the house knows what happened to his mother. Some say she was killed as well, others saying she was exiled, and still others saying she was part of the plot. What is known is that Kangrid Ironbraid inherited his father's land, and through harsh discipline and rigorous trade in furs and ores, expanded his land and wealth.

His wife Wylma bore him no sons, only five daughters collectively referred to by peasants and outsiders as "the Five Fingers of Kangrid", with Thidlynn ("Kangrid's Thumb") being the oldest followed by Reigna ("Index"), Ursla ("Middle"), Crysta ("Ring"), and Modanna ("Pinky"). Kangrid was also rumored to have fathered many bastard daughters in an attempt to have a son to follow him, but he would never gain his prize. He took out his frustration on his daughters, shopping them around to other Thanes to try and join houses, but the other Thanes were wary of his reputation for cruelty, and this only caused Kangrid to grow even more livid. He took his wrath out on his wife, dissolving their marriage and having her exiled for failing to provide him with an heir.

Thidlynn retreated to the winter of Dun Morogh for refuge. It was on her 40th birthday that she befriended and tamed a wild boar, naming it Barivlun. As her father kept an iron grip over who she socialized with while she was on their land, the boar became her only friend outside of her sisters. She learned to hunt, the boar being a fierce and smart companion, and she found respite where there was almost none. What she did not expect was that her father had the girl followed, as being his oldest daughter she had the main claim to his lands, and the most value to sell off.

On her 50th birthday, she set off for her usual hunt, and Barivlun did not answer her call. She searched all day but could not find him. Upon returning home, her family home was packed with guests, but few friends. Most were Thanes thinking of matching their sons with one of Kangrid's daughters, and Thidlynn fell into place, doing as her father requested to try and find a suitor. When dinner was served, a large boar came to the table to the horror of Thidlynn, her father turning to with a satisfied smile and whispering to her:

"A lesson for you on your birthday. Your friends are only as good as what they can provide for you. Enjoy the meat, dear."

It was around this time that the Orcs came to Azeroth, and some years later, they invaded Khaz Modan. Kangrid took his family behind the walls of Ironforge, and ordered his servants to stay behind and keep working. The Ironbraids remained safe, while most of their servants fell to Orcish blades without protection. When the Ironbraids returned, Kangrid flogged the survivors for not stopping the Orcs, setting them to task to rebuild. The process was immensely slow, as much of the labor force had not lived, especially the stronger workers that would have been fit for construction. They had heroically attempted to defend the weaker of their comrades despite being woefully unequipped, almost the entirety of the family arsenal belonging to the guard. The Ironbraids received looks of contempt daily, and Thidlynn's mind began to snap under the weight of all the indignity she suffered from both her father as well as the survivors.

History, as it is known to do, repeated itself. After watching Kangrid punish one of his workers for stealing food by cutting off a hand, Thidlynn sneaked into his bedroom at night, armed with the stolen axe of her family's man-at-arms. When Kangrid opened his eyes, he saw his daughter poised over him, tears in her eyes as she gripped the axe.

"A lesson for you, father. Your friends are only as good as what they can provide for you. And you have nothing that I need. Enjoy the axe, dear."

Being a man of status, Kangrid's murder was investigated by the Ironforge guard. When asked, members of the household told them that an Orc had remained hidden in one of the cellars, and had killed Kangrid on his way out. They had remained quiet to repay the debt they owed Thidlynn for killing their master, but they still worried that the daughter would be the same as Kangrid. It was with this trepidation that they watched Thidlynn named Thane in honor of her father and grandfather, and she inherited her family's land and near-depleted wealth. It is in these conditions that she tries to rebuild and strengthen her name, aided by her sisters as well as her family's master-at-arms, who pledged fealty to her in fear of her wrath. She also raises a young boar by her side, giving it the same name of her old friend.
