Personality

Alignment: Lawful Good

A Friar of the Holy Light, Brother Thalvin is a strong believer in the three tenets and lives a life of charity and service, especially to the poor. He is also an avid outdoorsman, at home in the wilds of Gilneas and giving in to wanderlust since being freed from behind the Greymane Wall. As a result of his explorative nature, he has a very neutral stance towards the harvest witches, believing that the Light and nature magic do not need to be exclusive of one another as long as they are used to help those in need.

Brother Thalvin's biggest fear is the harm of innocents while in his Worgen form. To this end, he meditates and prays regularly, hoping to contain the beast while admiring those who seem much more at ease with their bestial nature. He also has an overwhelming unease around the undead, as they serve as a reminder of the destruction of his homeland. He has some unease around the Horde races, mainly Orcs and Trolls. He's more comfortably around the Tauren due to their connection to nature and the Blood Elves due to their former place in the Alliance (as he was behind the Greyman Wall when they changed sides, he's not privy to the politics and events folloving their change of faction)

History

From almost the moment he was born, Thalvin Menshill was a child of the church. As a child, he served as an altar boy in Light's Dawn Cathedral, and his parents proudly encouraged him to continue his studies of the Light. He spent much time in the church libraries, reading through the texts and traditions. Thalvin found his greatest interest in prayer, not only in what it taught but the soothing effect of the words on his often worried mind. It was his love of prayer that continued to carry Thalvin into lay priesthood, where his duties mostly revolved around scribing the old texts into fresh books for preservation.

Later into his adolescence, Brother Thalvin was deemed ready for his audience with the bishop, and was being sent to Stormwind for further study. Before he could make the journey, the Greymane Wall was shut, as Gilneas had pulled out of the Alliance and decided to isolate itself from the rest of the world. Brother Thalvin was disheartened, and he spent a couple of years retreated inside the libraries, continuing his scribing duties. The walls of the church began to grow too thick for him, however, and soon he sought solice outside.

Borther Thalvin's first forays took him to the poorer areas of the city, where he felt the call to aid the sick who did not have the means to be taken care of. The medicines they needed often required herbs and plants from the wilds, and so he would brave the journeys to the woods and mountains, finding peace in the fresh air and calm. He soon started taking trips of his own accord, becoming an avid hiker and tree climber. He often brought leaves and stones back from his trips for the children in the city, and through his kind nature he convinced a couple of harvesters to provide a small amount of fresh fruits and vegetables for those who needed. His charity, along with the peace of the outdoors, brought him in communion with the Light, and he soon found himself, in limited capacity, able to channel it through prayer to heal. The Gilnean Civil War brought with it much tension, but through it all, Brother Thalvin did his best to continue helping those in need, unaware that an even greater storm was coming.

The Worgen invasion struck Gilneas City without warning, putting many innocent citizens of Gilneas at risk! One such worgen set its eyes on a little girl fleeing through the streets, stalking its prey. Brother Thalvin spotted this, and put himself in the path between the charging beast and the child! He was pounced and bitten, his weak frame barely keeping the beast at bay until a nearby hunter shot it dead. The man wandered over to check on the friar and the girl, but noticed her frightened face trying to back away. His concern turned to fear as Brother Thalvin faced him, his body changing into that of the same beast that attacked! It was the hunter that was the last thing Brother Thalvin remembered before he blacked out completely, only coming to consciousness some time later in restraints on the table of Krennan Aranas.

A pair of onlookers, known for their zealous hate of the Worgen but still reputable within the community, informed Brother Thalvin that both hunter and little girl had died by his hands. Saddened, he retreated into the wilderness, keeping himself isolated out of fear. He made regular visits to the Greymane wall, as it felt even more like a cage than before. Longing for the day he would be freed, he was unprepared for the Shattering, when raging earthquakes decimated the wall. Between the thunderous sounds of the collapse, and the explosion of Forsaken attempting to finally pour in, Brother Thalvin realized that he could no longer hear anything.

Frightened and stuck in a silent world, he hesitantly chose to flee back to the Light's Dawn Cathedral, finding the whole city under siege. Seeing his fellow Gilneans fighting back to try and take the city, and with his own frustrations boiling over, he lashed out at the undead, first with his claws, and eventually by smiting his opponents through the power of the Light. It wouldn't be enough, though, as the forces gathered were forced to retreat, eventually sailing to the Night Elf city of Darnassus.

Brother Thalvin was silent for most of the trip. It was then that he realized that if he did not learn to understand the others, he would be unable to keep up in the times ahead. He began watching the others speak, focusing on the way their lips moved, the way people responded, and silently mouthed the words to himself. If he had no one to observe, he used a mirror that had been dropped on board to observe his own lips. He continued this study even after their arrival in Kalimdor, and when upon receiving the cure that allowed him to return to his human form, he sought to continue his ministry to the refugees, who nicknamed him "Friar Wolf". But his time behind the wall cultivated a wanderlust within Brother Thalvin, and so he left his fellow Gilneans to the care of the Night Elves, and travels abroad seeking to spread the compassion and message of the Light.
