Personality

She is a rather shy troll, not the type to pick fights or provoke others. However, she is more than willing to defend herself when the situation calls for it. Other than that she acts like she is unwelcome in most situations, mostly because she feels she is as a 'fon. She's worried about not fitting in, especially with other trolls. She makes the assumption that most of the ones she meets are Darkspear.

She enjoys the jungle, but wants to see other parts of the world as well. The only thing that holds her back is uncertainty. She's a bit of a worrier, and is pretty uncomfortable of the thought of what might be out there outside the jungles of Stranglethorn Vale.

History

Born into the Gurubashi tribe, Tanari was just one of a handful of daughters to one of the warriors there. Her father was a headhunter, and had nearly as many offspring as he did heads hanging off his belt, and hunted well enough to provide for them and his mates. Tanari would look upon him and her big brothers as authority figures and bosses.

She was rather passive to them, and so there were seldom times where she would incite their anger and rage. In fact, her father praised her for being an obedient child, and something about that made her feel good. She liked getting rewarded, and constantly asked how could she help her father out. He shown her how to slice apart the hunt he brought back, how to clean and cook the animal, how to tan and salt the hide, and she practiced and did all of these well. They were skills that would increase her value as a mate, and her father had exactly that in mind.

One day he had brought her with him into the jungle with her brothers and one of her big sisters. He was planning to meet another hunter from a neighboring village and do business with the influential figure. Tanari was intended to be used as goodwill, however, they had been intercepted by strange and tiny green figures upon strange machines. They had nets that could fly at them, strange darts of poisons that made her father weak, and through the ambush and skirmish she found her father on the ground and unable to move.

She would let out a cry for help and start running through the jungle, but she could hear footsteps behind her. It didn't take long before one of the goblins caught up with her, and a net flew over her head and landed on her. The young troll was then carried off, and brought to a strange place by the sea where there were many docks and wooden houses that she had never seen before. She and the others had been seized as slaves to the Steamwheedle Cartel. All the other trolls were shipped off elsewhere to be arena fodder. The young troll, however, was put to the market, where a human was first to buy her.

He took her onto a ship, and made her work on deck. Another of the crew mates was a troll, and he had explained to her all her duties and chores that she would be doing in Zandali. He told her that she had to listen and obey because she belonged to the ship, and before she knew it she was whisked away to clean the decks and do other oddwork like scrubbing barnacles off the ship. As the years passed she would grow bigger, and stronger, and picked up the words of common when she heard others around her. She had just barely reached the age of being an adult.

The troll that had watched over her those years had plans to make her his mate, and wanted to start his own life outside the ship. The troll planned to desert during one of the shore leaves, and assured the captain when he went out that he'd keep a good eye on Tanari. He had yet to tell her, and only planned to when he lead her outside of Booty Bay. She didn't know this, however, but saw this as a window of opportunity. When they were setting outside she had managed to conceal with her one of the smaller kitchen knifes and kept it with her.

He wasn't her big brother, he wasn't her father, he didn't do any great feats to win her over. He had no right to her, and just because he could be her boss didn't mean she had any desire to be with him. When they were out in the jungle and he had his back turned, she had slipped out the knife, and driven it into the back where the neck and the spine would meet. She gripped onto him, the struggle was brief, but as she drove the knife deeper in his body would fall limp. As he fell to the ground she would take the knife out, lay low in the jungle for awhile. She knew that the captain wouldn't remain at land too too long, even if two of his guys went missing.

The troll provided something for her to eat over the next few days as she hid. She wasn't too keen to the idea of it, but knew that it would weaken his vengeful spirit. When there was nothing left to devour, she would move on, hunt other beasts, and remain in solitude. It only took a few weeks before she figured it would be safe to stop hiding. She finally took back to the road, and debated on where to go. She knew that there were free trolls in Booty Bay, and that she could return there, perhaps. The Gurubashi tribe wasn't far, but she had been gone too long, and spoiled by being brought up among humans and goblins. She knew there wasn't a place to turn back there.

It was then that she had found a small group of orcs heading to the arena. They had spotted the lone troll, who by now was very haggard and worn out from surviving in the jungle. They weren't hostile, and invited her to speak to them and explain herself out there. For some reason she felt like she could trust these people, at least more than the humans. She told them her story of being a slave, and how she had recently free herself and had nowhere to be. The orcs told her she could be a member of the Horde, and was welcomed to join. They didn't know she wasn't a Darkspear troll, and as far as she was concerned she was no longer one of the Gurubashi, so she accepted the offer.

Even though they would only fight at the arena for a short while, and part their ways, Tanari wouldn't forget about the Horde, and how she could claim she was part of the faction. They had been kind enough to give her some armor, a sword and shield, and allow her to carve out an existence as a warrior, practicing at the Gurubashi arena. To this very day she would remain close to her native homeland, still an outcast to her own people, but having a place to belong amongst the Horde.
