Personality

Shinn is rather misguided, separating from his Paladin studies or the way he's learned when his mother died which has forced him away from the idea of laws. It was laws that aided in the death of his mother, and he grew to resent it without falling from grace. He's witty, his mind working to find many solutions and chains to a situation all at once at the drop of a copper piece. He's also head-strong, one to get lost in self righteousness. He'll fight valiantly for something he believes in, and it's hard to steer him off that course leaving him rather stubborn. He's also very naive as he's just entered adult hood and thinks there are better decisions on matters that have transpired in the past. He also likes to wait before making decisions, but that's almost never the case as he's usually won over by the first person to give him a pity story.

Alignment: Lawful Neutral [Although not a particular fan of ‘law'.]

History

He was born on Sunstrider isle, raised there and in Fairbreeze when he was young. His father was a Paladin, and so was his mother. He had several kin, three sisters and four brothers as well. Shinn was more of a middle-child as two of his brothers were older than him, and his other brother was his twin. Two of his sisters were younger than him and just one of them was older. As they were raised by their parents, they all took a particular liking to an upright and moral view of life. His brothers grew up to be Paladins, minus one of his older brothers who became more of a black sheep, leaving the family after a disagreement with their father. He hasn't been heard of for quite a while afterward.

His eldest brother, Steel, went on to become a Paladin like their father, the other brother, Xanderin who didn't leave. Shinn and his twin were still undecided, but it was obvious what their choice would be. Their youngest sister Catherine became a priest, a small disappointment to the family but they honored her none the less. Their disappointment was short lived as a priest is just as noble as a Paladin in their eyes. The other two sisters, Mayze, and Victoria became strong-willed Paladin's as well and the influence was nearly irresistible to the twins. Soon, they too would begin their training in the light to become great Paladins; or so the thought was that was drilled into their heads.

Training was chores for Shinn and his twin Sol as they grew together as a set. A militaristic style of living one would say, as the family was rather bent on training them to be even greater paladins. The strongest paladin in the family was their father, and their mother had more potential but took the stereotypical role of a healer. The older sisters were a good combo, one acted as the shield and the other as the hammer. Mayze was a Paladin who focused on protecting, whilst Victoria held a large hammer to smite the undead. Steel was a healthy mix of both of them, but preferred to use a mace with his shield. Catherine was their medic for home, healing them of any cuts and scratches, pains, pulls or anything they might've accumulated during their training. She wasn't a 'great' healer but they never did get anything bad enough that she couldn't work with.

Life was full of training for Shinn, and he barely had contact with elves outside of their home. Years had passed, and he and his twin would start to use real blades to fight. Shinn stuck to one handed swords with a shield, his twin stuck with an axe much like the sister he looked up to, Catherine. As time progressed however, Shinn would start making a notable transfer to two handed swords, using their large size as a devastating weapon in their spars. Life was bland, and it was dry as each day was the same, but it was something they loved. They were Paladins already, but they never considered themselves as such until their parents had said so. The life they had grown so attached to would however meet an abrupt end.

It was a normal day when rangers appeared from Sylvannas' forces, recruiting other elves to help beat back the undead. His father, Aelius Xylia didn't hesitate to go with them. Their mother, Hinata Xylia quickly followed with his two older sisters and his older brother. They had a heroic march toward Silvermoon to put up resistance to the undead assault. Sol, Shinn, and Catherine were ordered to stay behind where it's safe. Hours passed since they had left and the three youngest at home became rather nervous. Sol however was worried, and took the time to try and convince the others that they should go and assist in the defense. Not just for Silvermoon, but for their parent's sake. The three came to an agreement and left for Silvermoon, ready for the death they were sure of ahead.

On the path to Silvermoon, the three encountered undead stragglers, creatures who either were lost or were sweeping up whatever was left over. Small undead creatures gnawing on the flesh of survivors trying to crawl away, looking for a more fitting end than to be cannibalized by some crazed incomplete spirit. Shinn was the first to react, charging out from behind the darkened and dead trees they three were using for cover, bringing his large blade downward from overhead, just after pulling it free from his back to swing it downward on the undead beast before him, successful in cleaving it in two. Catherine and Sol quickly charged out from their cover afterward, looking to aid the fallen man. Catherine prepared herself to heal him, beginning her chant before the weakened Quel'dorei had interrupted, begging for death. Catherine and Shinn were reluctant; Sol decapitated him with his axe after a bit of self-conflict.

As the three rose up, reading themselves to depart again they came across a small squad of undead beasts heading their way, four more undead drones that they couldn't pin a name to, and a large abomination behind them. The three grimaced. Their blue eyes narrowing in synchronization as they knew they have been spotted. Shinn had looked to Sol, looking first to his bloody axe and then up to his eyes.

“We have to fight-”

Sol gave a hastily reply, his voice seizing Shinn's and quelling it.

“I know.”

Catherine added in.

“We can do this. It's three against five but this is what we trained for.”

Sol replied as the undead continued to march toward them in a disgusting fashion.

“We wield the light; this is what we trained for.”

Catherine butted in once more.

“I can heal you guys if you take any serious damage! Just fight back to back!”

Shinn didn't bother wasting any more words. He charged forward with his two handed blade over his shoulder, readying to slash through the undead before him knowing that there was no way out of the fight. Sol rushed in behind him and Catherine kept her distance. Sol and Shinn were met with the first four drones rushing toward them, two jumping forward at once toward Shinn trying to tackle him to the floor and cannibalize him. Shinn however met them with a parry, raising his large blade to repel both of them, and with one swing knock them over on their backs. He took the time to pick his blade up and slam it down onto one of the drones, splitting it in two before the second got up throwing a viscous claw at Shinn and ripping through his right arm's chain mail armor and leaving a deep scratch on his skin. Shinn however counters with the butt of his blade, jabbing the undead directly in it's eye and knocking it back before twirling with his blade raised. This created a tornado swing which the added momentum from his spin contributed to the force of the attack slashing through the drone and slashing it in two. Shinn looked to his arm, panting as he started to overreact from the wound he had been given by the undead.

“Damnit…”

Shinn muttered under his breath.

“Look out!”

Sol's voice echoed, a large shadow looming over Shinn's body as another drone had been nearing the end of it's descent overhead. Shinn's eyes bolted open, eyelids peeled back creating a widened view of his sapphire blue eyes. Sol's axe swung over his head, lopping the creature's head off and decapitating it in mid air. The lower half of the body falls onto Shinn as he scrambles and panics for it to get off of him. As Shinn pushes it off of him another head flies by as Sol seems to have defensively lop off the head of the last drone. As Shinn's eye fell to his wound, a bright yellow light engulfs it and a scar is left over in its place, Catherine had been behind them doing as she said she would; healing them whenever they took damage, whenever they needed it. Shinn looked back to smile at Catherine, Sol charged forward toward the abomination heading their way. As Sol drew closer to it, he raises his axe overhead and swung at it, but was parried by the Abomination's butcher-blade that had not only blocked the attack, but repelled Sol in the same swing.

Sol flew backward into a tree, hitting it hard and sliding onto his rump. He was dazed, and Shinn took advantage of the moment after turning to charge the creature, thrusting his large weapon directly into the side of the abomination's stomach. Shinn smiles as he pierced it, but hadn't realized that he had done nothing to hurt the beast as green fluids just rushed out of its body and soaked Shinn in its disgusting waste. Shinn quickly pulled back, slipping and falling on his butt with the slime beneath him, the abomination turns toward him and raises one of its many blades to throw it downward in a large slash to cleave Shinn in two. Shinn replies with a roll, quickly spinning over to his left and out of the range of the linear blade. Catherine behind them had begun another chant already, allowing a bright yellow light to engulf Sol and heal him from the damages he had becoming more and more exhausted with each heal, even if minor.

As Shinn scrambles to his feet, the abomination continues it's assaults, keeping Shinn on an evasive defense, leaving him no time to counter without taking serious damage. Sol however had the perfect opening from behind, picking up his axe as he slowly recovered himself, making his way to his feet and running forward with the axe overhead, slashing downward as he approached Abomination cutting directly through it's rear and forcing a good portion of it to split in two, making it spew more of it's green fluid. This however made no noticeable effect, and the abomination spun around to face Sol, swinging its three butcher knives upward and then downward toward him to cleave him into four pieces. As it swung, Shinn raises his right hand bringing down judgment onto the beast by using his light-blessed powers. A might hammer of pure gold forms overhead the beast and slams downward into its skull. The beast is crushed by the power of the light and forced into a flattened version of what it once was, sparing Sol a disgusting fate.

Catherine let's out a relieved sigh

“That was too close! We should head back now!”

Sol's eyes narrowed as he nodded at Shinn thanking him.

“We can't head back, we've already came this far. If this is so tough, don't you think our family needs that much more help?!”

Shinn nodded in agreement, starting off again.

“We should keep moving, let's go.”

About another hour passes, and they reach a camp not far from Silvermoon. Many wounded is in the camp, their sisters and mother are a part of the numbers. They quickly rush over to the three who are suffering from serious wounds; Mayze is suffering from blood loss.

Shinn and Sol give a synchronized reply

“What happened?!”

Their mother responds.

“We were overrun… We had no choice but to retrea-“

Catherine interrupts.

“Where's steel?”

Victoria points behind her as a blood elf with a large gash across his face approaches. Catherine looks behind her as he catches her attention, as well as Sol and Shinn's. Catherine replies.

“A-are you alright?!”

Steel nods, and Catherine continues.

“Where's dad?”

Steel looks down, Victoria follows his example and her mother stares at her with saddened eyes.

Catherine repeats.

“Where is dad?!”

Sol looks down and Shinn now looks away, in the general direction of Silvermoon. Silence falls upon the group. Tears come to Catherine's eyes once more as she repeats.

“Where's da-“

Sol cuts her off.

“He's dead. It's obvious.”

Catherine turns to him, the only one showing weakness in the situation, perhaps the most humane of them all.

“That can't be right!”

Steel finally speaks.

“He stayed behind… Covering our escape.”

Sol butted in

“He stayed behind alone?”

Steel shook his head.

“No, Erebus was there too.”

Sol, Shinn, and Catherine both snapped to Steel, eyes widened as they simultaneously asked in disbelief.

“Erebus?!”

Their mother now re-entered the conversation.

“Yes. He returned to help us, we saw him while we escaped.”

Sol and Shinn had the same puzzled look. Shinn couldn't believe what he was hearing, their black sheep brother had returned to help the family. Shinn aggressively asked.

“What is he doing?!”

Steel replied.

“I don't know… His eyes were green… It was weird.”

Little did they know, Erebus the lost brother was a warlock, who had long since left the lands of his people to separate himself from his family entirely. He had pursued the study of demonology, becoming a warlock and replacing his needs to live off the sunwell with the more fulfilling arcane energies he gathered from the demons he manipulated so well. The broken family would undergo a desperate struggle with the other survivors, rallying to Prince Kael'thas when he returned from Dalaran. The family followed him loyally in their descent, taking in the same prejudice and treatment the rest of the newly named Sin'dorei did. Assimilating into Sin'dorei society with the contamination their race succumbed to, the fel energy they were laced with. The hold it had over them and the descent they took that lead to joining the Horde.
