Personality

Rupert is one insidious pile of bones, he's always scheming against one thing or another, often publicly. He's often so obsessed with his scheme's that he's oblivious to the outside world, often speaking against himself. It may take several attempts to catch his attention, and if you succeed he would likely glare angrily at you, unless you bring him some good news.

Rupert knows no remorse, no regret, that's one, because he's undead, two because he has always been that way. He will take revenge against anything that annoys him, sometimes even inanimate objects.

Rupert thinks slow, he's a schemer he tends to work out every possible outcome before he acts, especially when it's about his ‘schemes', even irrelevant things are worked out. When he acts he'd deliberate, he does not hesitate as everything has been planned out already, unless it's about social things, he tends to be quite awkward at handling those.

History

Rupert was born in the town of Andorhal, his father was a vintner and his mother a teacher. Rupert was a ‘special' kid, in a way that he didn't fit in with the others. He was ugly and quite nerdy, the latter was mainly because his mother was a teacher. It made him the primary target for bullies. It pretty much ruined his childhood, he never had friends because everyone evaded him. At first Rupert didn't care, other children didn't have his interests anyway, bugs did. So he spend his day observing insects, which gained him the entitlement: Creep.

Eventually the bullying became to much to bare, so Rupert, a little child of six still, planned his revenge. He would scare the biggest bully by putting a large spider in his pants, easy enough. Rupert caught a reddish spider and put it in a jar. He sneaked up the bullies' back, opened the jar and emptied it into the bullies' pants. Little he knew that the spider was poisonous. The bully got bitten, causing him to be sick for days. Strangely the spider didn't seem to be hostile against Rupert at all. Rupert never meant for it to turn this way, but he had his revenge, and it felt good. And so, the shadow grew within him.

The bullying didn't stop in the next seven years, it only got worse. Every now and then Rupert vented of his frustration by exacting some revenge, insects mostly were the tool. Until one day a new kid came to town, although actually not much of a kid anymore. This one craved to become the bully of the bullies. He was a roughneck, not hesitant to give smaller children a beating. Rupert to became a victim. But insects wouldn't quite cut it, no this time he would really scare the crap out the bully. So he stole a large knife from his father's workshop and went to confront the bully. He found him in a dark alley beating up some other kid, so he took his knife and pointed it at the bully. The bully turned around, clearly unimpressed, Rupert would never dare to stab him. The bully began to taunt him, calling him a coward. Then something snapped in Rupert's brain, suddenly he went crazy, a red haze filling his sight. He stabbed the bully, and again, and again. It took 23 stabs before Rupert regained his control. Again he never meant to do the bully harm, but it felt so good.

In the following eight years Rupert always carried his knife with him, hidden under his clothing. He murdered another four ‘bullies' without getting caught. A silent boy seemingly obsessed with little creatures creeping in the grass wouldn't raise any suspicion. His actions have not gone unnoticed either, some shady people have noticed his ‘shadowy' potential. Rupert made his first ‘friends', they taught him how to use shadow magic along with some basics about several arcane studies like divination and illusion.. A process that went gradually over the next decade.

In the meantime Rupert wanted to get himself a profession, but he seemed to lack talent to master a craft. So he became an actor, and later an Illusionist, using his newly learned skills to perform. He lived a double life, behind his façade he was a shadow priest, a cultist studying the art of shadow. Murdering for his shady friends. He had many contacts in the underworld, including some amongst the ranks of the Cult of the Damned.

Eventually a local nobleman called Halius von Ullsten put 1 and 1 together and got suspicious of Rupert's shady nature. Rupert was arrested and brought to the local church where he was examined by a local priest, who confirmed Halius' suspicions. However neither of them knew he was behind a series of murders in the area. Rupert was exiled, banished from the Kingdom of Lordearon. His family denied his existence and Rupert was forced to hide in the wilderness, plotting his next revenge.

In the following year, one year before the third war began, Rupert carefully planned his revenge, Halius would pay, Rupert would kill him and his entire family all, as well as the priest. And so he began to exact his revenge, using shadow to stay undetected. One by one the family members died, Some died because of a fire, locked up in their own home, others died of a mysterious disease, others disappeared. And the von Ullsten's, a family with 28 members, where eradicated, one family at a time. Halius knew what was happening and gathered the twelve remaining members of his family, hiding away in his mansion, tightly secured by a number of hired guards. But Rupert would not be stopped that easily, he had a plan. He contacted a ‘friend' of a ‘friend' who allegedly had access to a most lethal poison. So he acquired the poison and sneaked up the von Ullsten manor, using shadow magic to sneak past the guards unnoticed. He entered the kitchen and poured the poison into a pan containing soup. He hid himself in the basement and waited patiently for the poison to take effect. After hearing agonizing screams he went to take a look, only to discover that the Von Ullsten's where turned into undead, the poison being the plague. The undead leaped at Rupert and tore him to shreds, including his eyes. (At the time, the plague had already caused it's first victims in Brill.)

The man of whom he had bought the poison had silently followed him all the time, he raised Rupert as his minion. His name was Asmodean Boch, a cultist from the cult of the damned. Together they served the Lich King in the third war, bringing down targets that the masses of undead couldn't easily reach. In the meantime they studied the shadow arts Asmodean being the teacher. Rupert was already plotting his next revenge, but he was forced to obey.

An opportunity arose two years later, when Asmodean deemed Rupert was now trained well enough to serve the Lich King on his own, so Rupert was freed, bound only by the Lich King's will. Which ended two months later when Illidan made a tear in the Frozen Throne by using the eyes of Sargeras. The Lich King was weakened, his power leaking and his control diminishing. Rupert broke free, as did many of the now-called Forsaken. He went to visit his old master and stabbed him to death by surprise.

He began wandering the remains of Lordearon, studying the magical arts on his own account. He followed the forsaken loosely, not caring a lot about them, he had but one concern: Power. Now, an old ‘friend' resurfaced: Asmodean Boch, now undead as well. The two stared at each other for a while, then bursted out in a heartless laughter. They've been the best of ‘friends ‘ever since.
