Remyl Steeley is a 170-year-old Dwarf Brewmaster. He is played by Jonoth.

History

Remyl grew up in Kharanos, where his father, Ishtael, was a fur trader, as well as Ironforge, where his mother, Kunjala, was a tavern cook. Though his parents spent much time apart, they were very much in love, and each took care to teach Remyl through their experiences where each lived. In Kharanos, Remyl went hunting with his father, and from an early age was a good shot, growing and developing into a fine rifleman while learning about trading and building relations with customers. He learned be be friendly and talkative, and his father would tell him stories of the War of the Three Hammers. Though most of what he heard was tall tale, Remyl appreciated the time spent and the vividness of the accounts.

Back in Ironforge, his mother taught him to cook so he would be well equipped to survive the cold mountains of Dun Morogh. Being around his mother at the tavern also led to him being constantly surrounded by the local barmaids, and through what he learned about being a salesman he grew into quite a fearless charmer, showing no hesitation when dealing with the opposite sex. He had many girlfriends growing up despite not being the most handsome, his confidence more than making up for it. His womanizing often led to fights from jealous boyfriends or husbands, and he initially found himself on the losing end of the fights. In time, he'd learn to defend himself from the attacks and even land a few blows himself. To his family's dismay, he started fighting for coin on the side, developing into a respectable opponent.

He met his first wife, Magola, in the same tavern that his mother worked. The two remained married for twenty years, but over time Remyl longed for the excitement of his youth, where he would entertain many ladies, and eventually the marriage dissolved. He later married four more times, but the other marriages were doomed from similar feelings, or in the case of his final marriage, just a result of a drunken evening. To this day, he still regrets losing interest in his first love, but refuses to try and get her back, thinking he may end up repeating history and hurting someone he truly cares for.

When the Second War hit, Remyl used his skills as a rifleman to escort families as they fled into seclusion in Ironforge. He saved many lives and earned a loyalty amongst his neighbors who had only known him as a salesman and womanizer. At Ironforge, Remyl would spend his days and often nights perched at the entrance, hoping to pick off any enemies who would dare threaten his family and friends. Remyl's parents died of age during this time, but not before noting how proud they were of the man he had become. They warned him to not let his appetites get the best of him and to follow his heart. He took the advice very seriously, and after the war ended he dedicated himself to getting supplies and food for the Dwarves that returned their homes outside of Ironforge.

It was years later that the inaugural Brewfest occured. Remyl naturally showed up, being a bit of an "ale connoisseur", and he was blown away by the quality of the brews present. The celebration and competition lit a spark inside Remyl, and though he knew it would take time, he decided to become a brewer himself. He spent time searching out herbs, recalling the lessons of his mother while they cooked together. His early trials were failures, but in truth, trying was a reminder of the happier times of his youth, and these feelings only served as inspiration to help him continue to work on it. He spent many nights in a drunken stupor.

During the Third War, Remyl desired mostly to remain in his homeland, seeking to keep his people safe in case any forces tried to invade, as well as continue to develop his ales. However, his sense of duty overwhelmed him and he would seek out the human resistance. He fought valiantly at Mount Hyjal, again using his brawling skills and rifle to protect both the aerial gryphon riders as well as the land soldiers. The exposure to the fighting and death in yet another war would take its toll on Remyl, as he started to see it less like the tales his father told and more for its grim reality. So at the end of the Third War he returned home and retired, dedicating himself to traveling, drinking, brewing, and womanizing. After seeing much death, Remyl decided that the best way to move on after his old life was to simply...live.

This is why to this day, anyone who is a friend of Remyl's will attest to his bravery and are fiercely loyal to him, even if his antics lead them to constantly roll their eyes when he is around.
