Skills and Abilities

Ranuuh’s skills and abilities are only slight variations and physical characteristics:

Witch Knight: Ranuuh isn’t the best of Death Knights when it comes to purely physical melee combat. Instead, she specializes in the dark sorceries these unholy champions wield, making up for the aforementioned deficiency.

Master of the Forge: Ranuuh is exceedingly adept at runeforging all manner of items, from normal weaponry, to more esoteric objects such as gauntlets, enabling them to function as Runeblades for the purpose of allowing a Death Knight to use their abilities.

Weapons of Last Resort: Intended as a shocktrooper, Ranuuh’s normal Draenic fangs’ve been replaced with jagged, sharp metallic rigging, her fingers have been stripped of some of their flesh, the last phalanxes having talons cast-forged onto them, and her hooves are shod with heavy traction-enhancing spiked shoes. This means that eating soft foods is problematic (not that she needs to eat, being a Death Knight), she cannot wear full-fingered gauntlets, and cannot wear boots that cover the underside of the hoof.

Appearance

Not the best of physical fighters, Ranuuh prefers to encase herself in heavy platemail for protection where her parrying and dodging might fail her.

Other: Her body displays a few scars, including one that goes diagonally across her abdomen, multiple whip-scars on her back, calluses that indicate her knuckles have been broken at some point in time, as well as open-fracture scars on her knees and elbows. Judging by the state of the Death Knight, someone definitely tried to put her out of commission in a horrifically painful manner.

Personality

Ranuuh is a creature characterized by tenacity. Her unwillingness to bow down and accept fate marks many of her actions, and shapes her worldview. It may be a stretch to say that she is particularly courageous – indeed, hiding behind layers of unholy metal, and girding one’s body with improvised weaponry from hoof to horn precludes the absence of fear for one’s person, but she shows a desire for preparedness in her approach to daily life. Come what may, she tends to react with swiftness and cunning.

Ranuuh tends to be a racially tolerant person, as all species are a part of the Ebon Blade, and indeed of the Ashen Verdict, and she saves her hatred for individuals. Typically a guarded person, if one can get past the layers of Ranuuh’s psychological armor, they can find a woman possessed of quite a good amount of dry wit and fittingly enough, gallows humor. Ranuuh remains a Draenei in spite of many of the events that have shaped the course of her recent life, and even she cannot escape that terrible emotion that has characterized her people: Hope. Ranuuh shines in hopeless situations or against insurmountable odds, but tends to grow careless when success is nearly guaranteed.

History

Born on the exodus between worlds, Ranuuh’s childhood was a happy one, in spite of the Draenei being chased constantly by the Burning Legion. The youngling played and helped her parents and had about as much fun as an ankle-biter her age could have, and many of those memories still sustain the Ranuuh of today.

Growing up, Ranuuh got to experience a myriad of different worlds and environments as the Draenei world-hopped, and as she neared adulthood she began to focus on a martial path - that of the Vindicator. As it turned out, Ranuuh was more inclined to Lightwielding than purely physical pursuits, but she performed her duties admirably and ultimately became a devoted member of the group she’d sought to join.

With time, Ranuuh also developed an interest in Crystalforging, but it waned in favor of peacekeeping duties as the Draenei made landfall on Draenor. Still, she did trade the objects of her craft to the few Orcs her people encountered, and for a time all was well.

Ranuuh was in Shattrath when the first signs of the Fel-tainted Horde arose, and her parents elected to stay behind and fight an unwinnable battle, buying time for the rest of their people to escape. Ranuuh was having none of it, she begged and pleaded to be allowed to stay and fight, and it took her being physically knocked unconscious to make her relent. She came to in Zangarmarsh, her parents having paid the ultimate price for her safety.

Alive, but angry and discontent, Ranuuh picked up the pieces of her life and kept walking forwards, a sense of bitter loss driving her to enlist in the efforts to retake Tempest Keep from the Sunfuries who had wrongfully taken control of the vessels. The Vindicator was aboard the Exodar when it crash-landed, and for the first few weeks, she tended to the injured and the wildlife, eventually joining the Alliance alongside the rest of her people.

It was whilst conversing with a few individuals in Stormwind that she was made fully aware of the threat of the Scourge, and whether through courage, recklessness or a drive to prevent any further genocide against the peoples of Azeroth, Ranuuh chose to enlist with the Argent Dawn, eventually becoming a part of one of their expeditions into the Plaguelands.

Unfortunately, the Vindicator’s nature drove her to stray from her fellows, and it was not long until she was ambushed and felled by a patrol, this time one of the Scourge. Her next moments of consciousness consisted of a dark awakening in Acherus. It was still early in the time of the Ebon Hold’s campaign, and she was a part of a small strike team designed to soften up the Scarlet Enclave before the apocalyptic charge of the Scourge fully wiped it out.

What her new masters hadn’t anticipated was that she would be captured and put to questioning. A pawn of the Lich King, it was inevitable that she wouldn’t break – she couldn’t, as her will was not her own – but the Scarlets tried regardless, engaging in various activities, from genuine questioning to breaking her limbs. In the confusion of the onslaught brought forth by the Death Knights of Acherus, Ranuuh managed to escape, aided by the grafts her twisted tenders among the Scourge sought fit to give her - as they were not as easy to disarm as a runeblade, and maddened by the Endless Hunger.

Ranuuh slaughtered her fill on her way out, preying on those she saw as weakest to sate her unholy thirst, the extensive damage done to her body precluding assaults on the better-equipped of her foes. She was ultimately found by the Ebons, patched up and resupplied, and went on to participate in the battle of Light’s Hope chapel, being freed alongside the other Death Knights.

After some soul-searching, Ranuuh directed her wrath towards the Scourge, and participated in the War against the Lich King, up to its conclusion, eventually becoming a part of the Ashen Verdict near the very end, and using her surprising talents for Runeforging in their favor.

The Death Knight spent the next period tending to her own, helping keep in line those Knights who, in their listlessness did harm to the denizens of the Big Two, or engaged in activities that tarnished the already tenuous reputation of Death Knights everywhere.

Ranuuh was in the Plaguelands when the Cataclysm hit, and her sights are now set on frying larger fish, as she travels the worlds, but until the opportunity to strike arises, she simply walks the earth, with little regard for where her hooves take her.
