Personality

Alignment: Lawful Evil

If you were to meet him, you would think him nothing but a superficial jerk. He loves life, he loves pleasure and happiness. He always wants to surround himself with such things that make him happy, even if the happiness if fleeting.

While he might seem phlegmatic in nature, calm and perhaps even slothful when it comes to his mood, he does this only to conceal his real feelings. He is given to fall in love or desire things quickly and viciously, but his family has done all they can to punish such behavior in him. So he hides all his emotions in a mood of haughty arrogance, and general apathy.

He is proud of his family, and holds very close to his own blood and his own kind. He was taught from a very young age that you have family, and you respect and cherish the family, and everyone else is looking to get you.

History

He was born into a family that is both ruthless and cunning. They started as just the merchant class they dealt in illegal good and services, a powerful family that was able to buy guards and the favor of others. They lived by a code of behavior, family first, and you do not rat on the family. He was told again and again of the constant betrayal, being kicked from their homeland, them aiding the humans without any thanks for a problem the humans caused, and how the humans allowed the forest to be burned. It was the family that mattered, above everything else.

He started his work for the family as a child; they had special harnesses for children to wear to hide goods under. The children would wear them under their clothing as they went in and out of the city. The guards did not stop children, and so he would get a small cut of money for his work. He liked making his Grandfather proud and could see he was a man others looked up to; he helped people, lending money and paid for wedding feasts when the families had nothing. When you were in the family, you were in.

All of his family served in the Military, it was expected. He had two older brothers serve and one even went into the city guard. They were a merchant family and having family who could guard a caravan was cheaper then hiring humans who often tried to rip them off. The family was about business, and if it profited one, it profited them all, Grandpa saw to that order.

It was not until he was an adolescent when he learned the price for trying to betray the family. He went in to do another run for the family, stopping by the inn outside the city. “No, Rael, we have other work for you today.” Fenarus pointed to the back room.

Raelsynn entered and Hiron, his brother, was there with four other men, all of them were slipping on sheaths they could conceal in their jackets. “We have a situation, Rael, you are going to help with.” He told the young elf. “Leranus is going to the guard about that last shipment. We need to take care of him.” Raelsynn had heard the fadeleaf they smuggled in was laced with something new one of the other cousins had cooked up, and four elves were dead. No body important, just street dross.

Raelsynn nodded picking up a shoulder sheath and slipped the knives in, then slid on his jacket. He thought perhaps they were going top rough up his cousin. They started searching the city, Raelsynn was the first to spot him, and they took him into a back ally. A few words were exchanged, Leranus felt guilty for the deaths and wanted to “make things right.” There Hiron slit his throat and then stabbed him until he stopped moving. He spit on the corpse, and then everyone else followed. Raelsynn hesitated and Hiron looked at him. “He was a snitch, Raelsynn, this is the death of a snitch.”

Raelsynn spit on the bloody corpse of his Aunts son.

The funeral was lovely, he was even asked to speak. It was said he was killed by a mugger, they even found a poor bastard to punish for it. His Grandfather spoke at the funeral and extolled how the Light should embrace the soul of his cousin. He learned then, there were two sides to every coin, and two faces to his family.

When his father heard about it, Rael was moved off the regular duties of transporting and given more important jobs such as securing sales sites and meeting clients. He had an eye for environments, and the family started investing in lessons to fight. His older brothers taught him as well, his favored weapons were the knife and the bow.

He was allowed to study as a hunter, some of the best tutors were paid for to teach him how to hunt and tame animals. His family was using his skills every chance they could to have him slip goods through the forest without notice using the main roads.

Everything seemed perfect, until the walls of Silvermoon fell. His family might have been at odds with the law, but when the safety of his own kind came to play, his family shown. Almost all of his family was on the front lines, trying to fight back the scourge, and many of them fell, including his grandfather.

He was not even an adult when he remembered the shattering effect the death of his Grandfather had. There was not time for chaos in the family and his father quickly took control, bringing his brothers and sisters in line, and those adopted in.

Shattered and broken they huddled in tents and the family went from being criminals to being something of support. He helped to get food and take people out to the woods to collect medicine. The family helped to organize and even eliminate problems in the community. Raelsynn sometimes led elves into the woods for just that purpose, only to return alone.

When the Prince returned, his father went to action, and the Flarewing name was created, along with noble titles and the help of other nobles was bought. With a noble title in all the confusion, it could not verified, and they could have more access to more people. Of course members of the family went to help wherever they could, the temple as Blood Knights or clergy, the towers and halls as mages. And Raelsynn went to the forest to serve as a hunter.

His family saw a great opportunity with the new source of power, the fel blood. The noble class saw their place as above the commoners, and this gave them a sense of being immune to the effects. His family used their places to refine the blood, experimenting to change it, make more exotic versions. His father oversaw all these changes with secret places, and networks of criminals. All the while his father lived in a villa or a very nice house in the city.

Recently they have lost four of their hunters who went after the demons for their blood, and they do not like paying the fe-sworn or warlocks as the risk is high for being caught. With the cleansing of the Sunwell, they family has also had to profess a greater commitment to the light.

Raelsynn lived a privileged life as a young adult. His trainers got better, and he filled his days with hunting and tracking. He learned skills to survive, and to kill and trap. In the evening he would go to parties, mingle with the lovely ladies of the court. He was forced to learn poetry and etiquette; he saw these skills as another means of blending in. He started to see himself as the predator, and the members of the court, especially the ladies, as prey.

Love was a cheap tool that females used on males to win their money. He learned this quick hanging around the noble women of the court. So he played right back, and had many a times in a nobles bedroom. Love, sex, any relationship became a matter of give and take, and when the price was too high, or the giving stopped, so did he. He left more then one woman crying and screaming his name along with a string of vulgarities.

Life was a cup he wanted to drink deeply from, savoring the pleasures and passions and pains. In the courts he was know as slightly hedonistic, but that was not unusual for the courts of Silvermoon. The young elf was carefree and enjoied the pleasures his family's money would buy.

But a day came when he was finished with his training, and his schooling. Raelsynn's father called him in for a meeting. The older elf stood looking out at the city. “Son, my youngest son, you have done me proud.” He said and turned, the ribbons on Raelsynn chest showed his achievements as a hunter. His father walked over looking at them. “Marksmen, Shadow, tracker, and beast trainer.” He named the ribbons off one by one. “Now it is time to put those skills to work for the family.”

He took a long breath. “I will do what ever you ask father.”

His father smiled and patted Rael's cheek. “Ashenvale, you will need to go from time to time.” He turned and walked over to his desk, taking out a pouch that strapped on under the clothing. “Just like the old days.”
