Appearance

Petres is pale and grey-eyed, with long blond hair carefully plaited into two braids that frame his face. He has a fair complexion, but the rough features of peasant-born stock. He generally appears to be calm and serene, even if the emotions he feels are extreme.

The Forsaken is tall, with strong shoulders and a barrel-like chest. He has a predilection for clothes that may seem a just a little bit old-fashioned, but are clearly at the same time elegant and rather costly. He possesses long-fingered hands that greatly contrast with his larger frame. His mannerisms are precise, with an economy of motion.

Personality

Petres is charismatic, urbane, well-spoken, and intelligent. He responds to the world around with with dark amusement that strongly borders on being ironic and at times can appear to be extremely supercilious. The Forsaken defines himself according to strict and unwavering standards. He is driven to control -- almost to the point of obsession -- whether it is himself, his environment, or the people around him; the merest perception of its lack enrages him.

Petres loathes being thwarted and will ruthlessly crush his opposition; he does this in subtle way rather than through direct confrontation. Those who serve him well are rewarded, while those who are not are severely punished.

Skills and Abilities

Having pursued study of necromancy, Petres is capable of twisting arcane magic to manipulate the power of death. His ability to do so is understandably minimal, given that his knowledge is primarily the result of his own covert studies. Given the Dark Lady's understanding of the importance of necromancy in the future of her people and the pursuit of their cause, Petres has been able to resume his research and has benefited from interaction of other like-minded individuals.

The Forsaken eschews conjuration and demonic pacts in choosing to instead focus on the destructive powers of dark energies.

History

Petres was born twelve years before the opening of the Dark Portal in a small town located in the outskirts of Alterac City. His father was a woodcutter, a hulking, brutish man who celebrated physical strength and masculinity; his mother was delicate, if sickly, woman. Petres grew up the youngest of four sons. His elder brothers all took after their father, both in form and spirit. They tormented the young boy until he came into his height and strength in his early teens.

Shortly before the Second War, the young man exhibited magical aptitude and was accepted as an apprentice in Dalaran. Petres remained in the magocratic citystate through his early adulthood, pursuing his education despite attacks by the orcs during the Second War. In time he became a minor mage serving the estate of a wealthy merchant.

It was during his tenure with the merchant that Petres became intrigued by the forbidden art of necromancy. Driven to learn all he could of the magical world and its shadowy wonders, he was frustrated by what he saw as his peers' outmoded and unimaginative precepts. The mage pursued study of the dark arts in seclusion while maintaining his duties in public. He managed to keep his research hidden until just before the Third War; once discovered, Petres was stripped of his holdings and titles and banished from Dalaran.

He died shortly thereafter of the Plague of Undeath, penniless, friendless, and obsessed with the idea of revenege against the closeminded individuals from Dalaran who had ruined his life.

When the Banshee Sylvanas freed a portion of the Scourge from the Lich King during her rebellion, Petres regained his freewill and his sense of purpose. Rather being dismayed by the change wrought upon him by the Plague, the former Dalaran mage embraced his transformation as the pinnacle of existence. In the years since, he has resumed his studies of the dark arts.
