Personality

Nyra’s experiences both in the Sentinels and after striking out on her own have hardened her to strangers, making her cold and professional when conducting business with people she doesn’t know. However, around the people close to her, Nyra’s stone walls melt away to reveal an affectionate and light-spirited young elf who would do anything to make the ones she loves happy. Underneath her façade of indifference and blandness, Nyra is actually a very curious and loving person at heart who loves to read, dance and play music.

Alignment: Chaotic Good

History

Nyra was born in Ashenvale to a Sentinel mother and a Druid father, though shortly after her birth her father was taken by the Emerald Nightmare and died. Her first few years of life were spent being raised by her mother and older sister, Mar. She was very close to her mother, who had taken to affectionately calling her ‘little-ear’. Soon enough, her mother took on a new mate, a Priestess of the Moon and so the young elf was raised by a pair of loving mothers and never wondered about her father as the new mother took Nyra on as her own. While Nyra’s sister Mar took to the new mother’s craft of Priesthood, Nyra found herself much more drawn to her biological mother’s career as a Sentinel and was trying to lift her mother’s glaive even while still a child. She ended up slicing her finger open on the blade, and while being reprimanded by her mother for doing something so dangerous, Nyra was promised that when she was old enough, she could join the Sentinels alongside her mother.

Her days as a young girl were very peaceful, spent playing with her sister whenever Mar could spare the time from her training as a Priestess of the Moon and being taught the values of honor, family and courage by her mothers. As she grew, she was very active and enjoyed running through the forest and climbing the highest trees she could find whenever she was not training with her birth mother, preparing for her entry into the Sentinels. Finally, the day came when Nyra passed her entry exam and was accepted into the ranks of the mighty warrior women. Decades were spent fighting alongside her mother and occasionally her sister as well as her new-found sisters-in-battle who welcomed Nyra as newest member of their unit. Over many years, she saw friends die and more friends come along and she felt the pain of all this loss. She was still a young soul and had little control over her emotions and would often fly into fits of rage in the heat of battle or bouts of depression when she lost a friend.

A few years later came the war that changed the life of all Kaldorei forever. The Third War, and despite the wishes of both mother’s, she went into battle alongside her sister to fight the forces of the humans and the Orcs invading her home until the truce was called. Then she battled vile demons side-by-side with many other races until Archimonde finally fell and the demonic assault was ended at the cost of many of her battle-sisters lives.

When Mar disappeared overnight without a word, it cracked something in Nyra. Her sister, who had said she’d always be there for her and loved her so much had simply vanished and not taken the time to say goodbye to her family. This hardened Nyra and she became cold and distant, even to the members of her unit, who were her closest friends. On one mission, two years later, she was sent to destroy a platoon of Goblin Shredders that were cutting down the forest in the East of Ashenvale. Alongside her team, she managed to turn most of the machines to scrap but their glaives and bows weren’t enough alone and two members of the team were killed by the mechanical terrors. Before the last engine went silent, the unit was two members down and Nyra had lost her left hand to a sawblade.

Despite all the decades of training her unit did, these machines had torn them apart like they were novices. Nyra took a leave of absence from the Sentinels to mourn the loss of her comrades as well as to think her life over. Through weeks of contemplation she realised the reason they had lost was because their methods were too out-dated to combat a modern threat. If they wanted to defeat fire, they had to use fire in return. Handing in her resignation to the Sentinels, Nyra began to learn the secrets behind machinery. She travelled across the sea to the Eastern Kingdoms to learn from the Dwarves and the Gnomes the art of engineering.

After several years, Nyra compiled masses of knowledge on technology and machines. With the help of a Gnomish friend of hers, she created a new hand for herself from pieces of scrap from the wreck of the Shredder that had taken her original hand. Alongside her new hand, she built herself an arsenal of weapons specifically designed to combat machines. Her new weaponry included a grapple launcher mounted to her wrist that allowed for fast movement to avoid blows or navigate around a large foe quickly, a sword with a blade that when activated ran like a chainsaw that allowed for easy severing of armoured plating. She also took to wielding a single-handed revolver pistol, also keeping her worn old Moonglaive as the staple of her weaponry.

With her new understand and new tools, Nyra also found a new purpose. To travel the world and make sure that races other than the Goblins were using technology in a manner that did not damage the earth and to eliminate any machines that were built for the purpose of desecration, like the Shredders that were destroying her home. While she has her private war to wage, the softer part of Nyra is excited about travelling the world and experiencing new things.
