Appearance

Usually clad in simple clothing, Mictian prefers sturdy leather armor over the stronger and heavier armor variations worn by most sentinels.

Athletically built, Mictian is regarded as small by most of his brethren. However, he is still formidable and could be seen as a typical Night Elf by other races. What he lacks in strength and stamina, he makes up for in speed and agility, his actions always sharp and precise, fast reflexes complementing his physique.

Being a young Kaldorei, he isn't proficient in the use of the traditional curved blade favoured by others in his profession. Instead, he arms himself with a sword and dagger, although preferring to rely on methods of subtlety over use of actual weapons. He is also somewhat of an acrobat, with a flexible body that helps him in tricky maneuvers. While possible, he would always rely on a bow, being sufficiently trained with it, but wouldn't mind resorting to throwing stars and knives if stealth is crucial.

Personality

Upon meeting Mictian, one might get the impression that he's reserved. This is merely because he takes time to adapt to new people. Once he becomes a friend however, Mictian reveals his inner confidence which complements his decisive nature. Despite his age, considered as young amongst the Keldorei, Mictian possesses a rational and very analytical perception. He tries to distance himself from emotion, claiming that it would affect his judgment, but often fails. Should he be consumed by emotion, his actions would seem irrational and unlike him, an alter ego surfaced only in desperate times.

Mictian has a very idealistic approach, always believing that people are good in nature. This causes him to trust others easily, a problem in his line of duty. However, his training has told him otherwise, and so he tends to be cautious when approaching those whom he does not know. Having grown up in the matriarchal society of the Keldorei, Mictian tends to deffer to females in general, regardless of race, respecting and trusting them much easier than males.

Due to his participation in the Third War, Mictian has grown a liking to humans, having fought alongside them shortly after attaining adulthood. Nevertheless, he knows that his own race would always come first, and strives to preserve the Keldorei honour as well as its territory. Mictian has a burning hatred for Orcs. Since the Orcs wiped out the Nightblades, the first regiment he was assigned to, Mictian could never look at an orc without contempt, distancing himself from their race entirely. Since he was not alive during the Sundering, Mictian does not feel hatred for the Blood Elves as intense as those of his brethren.

However, he has no love for them either, preferring to avoid them where possible since they were the Keldorei antithesis. He would only reluctantly work with a Blood Elf if there was dire need, or if ordered to by his superiors. Which was unlikely. As for every other race, Mictian takes a stand of neutrality, neither liking nor hating them. The trolls may be seen as an old enemy of the Kaldorei, but Mictian does not share that view as he has not had a bad experience with trolls.

History

Born in Ashenvale during an era of relative peace, his birth was a cause for celebration since Kaldorei pregnancies were very rare. He was named Durandel. Due to his amber eyes, most thought that he would be raised as a druid. However, his birth among the Nightwing family, whose tradition stated that they became warriors, saw him growing up in harsh training. Schooled in Elven Literature as well as with other basic knowledge, he had always shown a zeal for learning, being able to grasp complex theories quite easily. It was because of this, that some regret the decision of training him as a warrior.

He learned and trained hard, although the lack of others his age robbed him of competition. He sought to absorb everything he could in the long years of his education, even though he knew that he could never have a rank or position in the guardians of Ashenvale society because he was a male. He knew his place and accepted his matriarchal society, always deferring to the females in any matter.

Upon reaching adulthood, he was recruited into the Nightblade regiment, helping watch over his homeland. The first few years of his joining of the Nightblades saw much joy and happiness, going out on patrols with his new found comrades. Since the Nightblades were predominantly male, they didn't have much authority among the Keldorei, and were usually the first to be sent into battle. But there was no battle to be fought, for it was the time of peace, and Ashenvale was under the guidance of the demi-god Cenarius.

Then the Orcs arrived.

When the reports of orcs felling trees and desecrating Ashenvale land reached his company, Durandel knew nothing but anger. Under order of Cenarius, the Nightblades drew first blood, storming and infiltrating over a Warsong Base. It was the first true battle Durandel had, putting everything he learned into use. Once the occupants were all killed by the Nightblades, the Moonhunters came and made it their base of operations. The battle with the Orcs saw few casualties on the side of the Keldorei. Since they were winning, Cenarius returned to his base, and let the elves continue the attack. The Nightblades were the first in line to assault Grom Hellscream's base.

However, the orcs under Grom were tough, and the Elves started losing people. When the Nightblades were nearly wiped out, Cenarius came to the front lines, and hope returned. Little did they know of the corruption which had consumed the Orcs, giving them new found strength to defeat the elves. When Cenarius fell, the elven bases were overrun. Durandel, along with several other young Keldorei, were sent to report the situation. The Nightblades, along with the Moonhunters, Shadowleaves, and Starseekers were all wiped out. Only the Ashenvale Farstriders survived.

Then came the Third War.

Durandel was reassigned to the Sentinels, along with the remnants of the other regiments lost during the battle with the Orcs. The acceptance of males into the Sentinels was more out of necessity than choice, since the Keldorei decided to band together with the other races against the Burning Legion, an age old enemy. He fought with courage and valour despite his youth, always expecting his life to be cut short at any time. He refused to so much as look at an Orc, despite the Alliance forged, since memories of Cenarius's death still plagued him. Because of that, he primarily fought alongside Humans and other Night Elves.

After Archimonde fell, and the Keldorei lost their eternal youth, Durandel remained among the Sentinels, continuously improving his skills and obeying the orders of his superiors. The loss of immortality meant little to him, since he witnessed first hand the ease at which a life could be taken, making eternal youth obsolete. His efforts during the war were not forgotten, and although he could never be placed in a position of authority among the Sentinels, he was allowed more freedom than permitted to most male soldiers. This allowed him to travel out of Keldorei territory, and gave him access to forms of training usually only taught to females.

When the Night Elves joined the Alliance, Mictian was sent out to aid them, as well as to report any irregularities or threats back to the Keldorei Government. In the lands outside of Keldorei Territory, he is seen as a rogue sent by the Keldorei to help the Alliance. However, he knew that this was because of the gender stigma still prevalent amongst the Sentinels, disallowing him from taking an active role in the Sentinels. He then got to know about Elune Adore, and organisation that takes care of the Keldorei in foreign lands, and so, he joined the organisation, always keeping an eye out for his people, placing his nation before all else.
