Personality

Mezrin is a cranky gnome, not known for patience or for beating around the bush. He believes in no higher power, only the power of one's self. In this way, he'd make an excellent candidate for a Forgotten Shadow cult, but doesn't believe in stepping on others to achieve his goals. Conversely, he doesn't believe in helping much, either. He is an overall neutral gnome, with an emphasis on selfishness. Mezrin doesn't care about nature, he doesn't care about his race, and he doesn't believe that any noble cause will bring harmony to the world or anything as silly as that. He focuses mainly on keeping his technology modern and his magic on par with other magi. On the war between the Horde and the Alliance, he is neutral, believing that people are to be judged on a case-by-case basis.

Mezrin is, overall, lonely. He's never been one for social interaction, despite his desperate and secret desire for companionship, whether it be a mere friendship or a romantic relationship. He's grown older and fallen out with many of his race, leaving him bitter towards those who are truly happy. His greatest fear is dying alone and with no legacy. He desperately aims to be a family man, but his personality doesn't lend itself to that very well. He hopes to one day redeem himself in the eyes of at least one person so that he may have a friend or significant other and experience a shred of happiness in his life, like he can only experience through the bittersweet tears he gets when he remembers his childhood.

History

Mezrin was born in the city of Gnomeregan to a mage and an engineer, as many techno-magi are. The family was upper-middle class, and as such were able to afford a higher education for their only son. He was raised as both a mage and an engineer in his classes, learning to combine the two elements together in a powerful display. During his childhood, he had plenty of friends and had a great relationship with his parents. He was moderately wealthy, successful in school, and liked to party and what not with his friends. He often got into trouble with them, doing things he shouldn't do. This all changed when he was dared to steal an invention from a warehouse. It was a small black box, and he wasn't sure what to do with it. He successfully grabbed the box, but on his escape from the complex, he was spotted by security and caught. As it turned out, he was caught stealing a prototype, developed by government engineers. Thanks to his parents, they were able to work out a deal with the judge that he should be exiled rather than imprisoned for life. So, he was packed a lunch, given his tools and some spell books, and banished from Gnomeregan for what seemed to be forever.

Mezrin then traveled the lands known as the Eastern Kingdoms, looking for a new home to call his own. He fell into a deep depression, having lost everything. He became a hermit in the mountains, seeing no friends, no enemies, only himself, his technology and his magic. He was able to expertly combine them, but soon afterwards would continue to feel empty inside. He knew he needed friends. So he built a mechanical squirrel, which he named Jeff. This was his only companion, and he often talked and ranted at it, but never abused it. He loved it so, enjoying its company. Regardless of his new clockwork friend, he spent many nights crying himself to sleep, as he was secretly afraid of the other races and couldn't find any gnomes outside of Gnomeregan. It was his decision, then, to kill himself, so that he could end his suffering and maybe find out that age old question of what comes after death.

He would have succeeded, too, if there hadn't been a knock at the door as he stood on a stool, noose in hand. He hid everything away and answered, and he found another gnome, which he hadn't seen in countless years. He was informed that his banishment had ended, as Gnomeregan had fallen to traitors and troggs alike. It was also revealed to Mezrin that his people had been scrying him every so often, to make sure he didn't snap and try to bomb Gnomeregan or anything like that. Baffled, Mezrin packed his things and fled his run-down home in those mountains, and made it to Ironforge, where his people had taken refuge. He spoke with officials and found out that he hadn't been lied too. Desperate to find his parents, whom he had loved very much when he knew them, the gnome set off for Gnomeregan, wielding contraptions made from technology and arcane combined. He fought a few leper gnomes, but didn't really get near the city; rather, he was knocked out and saved by a gnomish strike force trying to dent the leper gnome population. So now, Mezrin bides his time, waiting for an opportunity where he can see if his parents suffered the fate of death, or much, much worse.
