Personality

Menthis is a calm, tranquil and peaceful soul through and through. From the lowliest human to the most feral of injured beasts, there are naught that are overlooked by his protective, nurturing nature. Naught but the orcs and their allies, who so cruelly ravage the world and wage a pointless war; notably, the Tauren are excluded from this prejudice.

There is nothing that the elf would love more then to spend the day within the forests of his homeland as a treant, meditating and listening to the chirping of animals and smelling the scent of the wind with only perhaps his closest companions to share in the experience with him. Menthis values solidarity, and is reserved in groups of any decent number.

Menthis is one to believe that there is a good side to everybody.... bar warlocks and the Horde. Even then, however, he has been known to overcome his prejudice and heal someone truly in need. However, he does not associate for any extended periods with such individuals. The druid follows a calling to heal the land and its people, and that is what he takes great pride in doing. On the flip side, if presented with a person he cannot heal he will grieve deeply after attempting everything he can to save them. His grieving is always silent; tears do not escape the eyes of the elf.

History

There is little to say of the night elf’s early past, despite the countless millennia of existence. The elf was born some time after the destruction of the well of eternity and the Highborne. He spent his early years hunting and learning the traditions of people before embarking on the path of the druid. At his one-hundred and fiftieth year of druidic training, the elf finally entered the Emerald Dream with his brothers.

Menthis spent century after century within the perfection of the Emerald Dream, meditating upon the world and being at peace. So it was that when he was awoken during the Third War to confront undead abominations and strange new races, he found himself not a little disconcerted. With a war going on, however, there was little room for readjustment. Menthis joined many of his brothers on their way to battle.

In a few short years the Night Elf experienced great loss and great insight. He had his first, and often violent, confrontations with the Horde and their strange orcs; he stood amongst the Alliance, and healed the wounds and sickness he saw; but he quickly learned there was little cure for undeath. When Archimonde descended upon the world, Menthis was present at the battle of Mount Hyjal, doing everything in his power to hold back the demonic horde and keep his allies safe. In the grand scheme of things, however, all of his incantations were trivial; the necessary sacrifice of the World Tree to destroy the great demon is something that pains him to this very day. Not for the loss of immortality; Menthis did not fear death. But for the loss of something sacred and beautiful to the night elves.

As the war against the Lich King started to move towards Icecrown Citadel and the confrontation with Arthas loomed near, Menthis found another calling. He heard of brother druids in a barren land aptly named the Barrens, who had been lost but were now recovered and working on healing the sickness within the earth. Frustrated at the seeming futility of his efforts in Northrend, where even a saved life often just meant another soldier for the Scourge to turn at a later date, the druid departed to assist in the recovery of the Barrens.

It was during this time that the first hints of the Nightmare became apparent to Menthis. A vague feeling formed in the back of his mind, that something was not quite right with the Emerald Dream despite him exiting it. Not long after he received reports of druids who had not yet awoken, permanently lost to a slumber. The notion that something unknown and malignant was sullying the perfect world of the Emerald Dream hung heavily on the druids conscience, but he continued his work knowing that he could do nothing about it alone, but always ready to respond to a rally to attempt to tackle the problem somehow.

Even as the Barrens finally started to recover from the combined efforts of all the druids, fertile land starting to emerge from the dry soil, disaster struck. The corrupted aspect Deathwing re-emerged to wreak havoc on the world of the living, and although part of the Barrens were healed, horrendous scars were left across Azeroth. Menthis’ heart wept silently at witnessing the destruction, and he vowed to do what he could to ease the suffering of the land and its inhabitants. So the druid travels, trying to shape and heal the world in any little way that he can.
