Appearance

Usual Garments/Armor: She is often decked out in full plate and heavy machinery. The suit she wears is mechanical, and has multiple pipes and vents for exhaust. She proudly sports a red paintjob which compliments her Horde tabard well. When she is outside the suit she is often in overalls.

Other: She has a tiny nick taken out of each ear in a wedge shape. Her body also has a few welts and scars, mostly due to engineering accidents and improper handling of hot metal. She’s also a big eater, and rather hefty at that. She’s not very muscular, actually Maya’s pretty chubby. Maya belongs to the Warsong clan.

She carries two guns with her as a way of defense. She has a hefty rifle and a steam pistol.

Personality

Alignment: Neutral Good

Maya has a lot of issues and baggage that she only managed to cope with by building herself into a little suit and pretending the things on the outside can’t touch her. She is afraid of filth, and hates the smell and touch of blood. She also is incredibly uncomfortable with others touching her bare skin, even so much as her hands and shoulders. A few people she has come to trust can come close to her, but often it ends up making her feel awkward and shy.

She dislikes animals and children and has no patience for the things she can’t bring to logic with. She also dislikes excess hair and fur, like on a tauren. Incidentally tauren , dwarves and worgen creep her out and she finds herself shying away even with her suit on. Deep down humans scare her, but her suit gives her the confidence to be in their presence and confidence to dish out some passive-aggressive snark.

She finds herself close to trolls and orcs though laments in how few are engineers like her. Goblins are her most preferred race to be around even though they have taken advantage of her numerous times. Goblins are regarded as family. Between these three she finds herself developing numerous crushes but usually is too shy to confess to it. She is a hopeless romantic and loves to indulge herself in daydreams of finding the right mate.

Her biggest crush is on Thrall, even though they never met and will likely never meet. She would come to resent anyone who manages to become his mate but knows it would be social suicide to confess this. She trusts his leadership decisions including that of making Garrosh warchief, though she thinks that Garrosh isn’t much of a looker.

As incredibly awkward as she is Maya prefers to be in the company of others in some hope that she can be a normal person. Her acceptance in the Horde makes her feel like she belongs, though deep down she is afraid of being regarded as a child. She is not certain of her own age, but she feels she is probably old enough for the om’riggor, and is afraid of others finding out that she is not a “true” adult.

History

Maya was born an intern baby, and a rather large one at that. So large, in fact, that she couldn’t have a natural or conventional birth. When her mother was late to deliver it had raised some concern from her father, and when she had finally entered labor it was prolonged and agonizing. That baby wasn’t going anywhere without a little help, and despite his resentment towards the captor, Maya’s father found himself swallowing his pride to ask for help. He was afraid the baby would never come out, and both his unborn child and mate would pass.

The only doctor assessed the situation and determined that the baby was too large and the only way to deliver her was by “blade.” It didn’t take much for her father to catch on to his suggestion and at first he reacted angrily, but Maya’s mother was quick to opt for the procedure in the hopes that at least one of them would live. He protested and tried to intervene; it took some of Maya’s uncles to restrain him while the procedure was carried. They held him back and even had to drag off the thrashing orc while the human performed a cesarean section.

Only when the man had calmed was he able to return to find that both his mate and child were doing surprisingly well. The doctor managed to stitch her up, and a priest was called in to ensure she was kept in a stable condition. Her father almost felt embarrassed at his over-reaction, but he was more ashamed he couldn’t be there for his mate to help, and to see his child born. But he was happy and proud, and so was her mother, who was actually felt quite accomplished to produce the exact opposite of a runt, the left her with an impressive “battle” scar (as motherhood is quite a battle).

She was a very hungry baby that occasionally wanted more than what her mother could provide. The humans at least were kind enough to supply the couple with cow’s milk and a bottle. She was fussy and wanted to be fed and cradled a lot, and the excessive feeding caused her to get a little round and pudgy, though her parents were sure that extra chub would turn into muscle someday.

As soon as she could walk she would follow her father everywhere, which wasn’t far because they were both interned. He tried to get her to play with the kids but she wanted to be with him, and chew on his shackles (a habit kept a couple years after teething) and share with him all the things she thought were cool. The orc found himself with a collection mostly of rocks that Maya claimed kind of looked like the humans around and he found himself thinking they were just about as dumb as rocks too. Maya from an early age picked up on the attitude and found herself mocking humans to impress her daddy.

This got her in more trouble than what he could have ever anticipated. When she was around four years old there were a few young humans visiting. They were probably in their twenties and enjoyed picking on those who couldn’t fight back. Maya saw one tossing a rock at one of the big orcs in chains. So she threw one back, and made faces at them and stuck out her tongue. As soon as they noticed the haughty, young orc they were quick to try and beset her. She ran away, but being such a confined area they were quick to chase her down and corner her.

She immediately cried for help from her father who had noticed even before those humans were chasing her kid. Despite the ball and chain, and more importantly the lethargy, he felt a spark of natural rage that came from them threatening his flesh and blood. The orc barreled his way towards them, grabbing one of the young humans and throwing him back before grabbing Maya in his arms to keep her covered.

The foremen had to intervene before he could get close to beating the humans to a pulp and possibly killing any of them. Outlashes like this were not common, but they certainly wanted to set an example. He was beaten mercilessly in front of Maya. And Maya was punished too – by the antagonizing visitors who weren’t even part of the internment. While the ones in charge were busy dealing with her father they dragged her away. They kicked her since she was little, and then so she would never forget they carved a marking into each ear. They laughed as she ran away crying.

It was the worst day of her life. And she didn’t know where her father went after. Other orcs told her he had been taken to another part of the camp and was going to be separated from his family for punishment. They also told her to hide, because the humans were looking for her; she started all this after all. There was nowhere to hide, as much as the orc tried. She too was found, and while she wasn’t beaten her punishment was much the same. She was moved into a new part of internment and couldn’t see her mom, or Dad, or any of her uncles, aunts and cousins.

She spent the rest of her years in internment there, alone, but not out of hope. She knew they didn’t kill her dad, he was just somewhere else. She didn’t make any friends in the new section of internment, and found herself mostly afraid and shy. She hid a lot because even though she was just a kid, Maya was too afraid to be caught crying each time she thought of her family.

When their liberation came she searched for her family as soon as she could. But there were so many orcs freed and she didn’t know where to begin. Since she was separated so young she actually forgot everybody’s names, and she grew and changed too. Maya found herself an orphan still, but she was certain they were still alive. She also felt a little afraid to face her father, since she felt it was her fault he was punished so harshly. After a while she gave up, thinking that maybe she was a bad daughter anyways.

When they started sailing to Kalimdor she just found herself standing around and waiting. She was too young to help fight the murlocs and help the trolls, and too young for just about anything else. It left her frustrated but a window of opportunity opened once they started building Orgrimmar. That was where she started seeing machines, and saw her first goblin. She watched them all day, for some reason fascinated with the gadgetry. One noticed the young Maya’s spark of interest and offered her an apprenticeship; she would have the chance to learn how to build and create if she promised to work for him as an adult.

The goblin took her in and he became a second father. The first year of internship took place in Orgrimmar but he then returned to Kezan, and let Maya come along. The goblin became like a second father to Maya, and made sure to teach her everything he could about building machines, especially war machines, and how to stay safe and not get duped while staying in Kezan. The goblins had a number of educational material and voice recordings for topics such as “puberty,” “peer pressure,” and “how to not get flattened by cars.”

The PSAs, often exaggerating issues and meant to scare the goblin kids, definitely got to Maya. Somehow they made her afraid of a lot of things. But the cautiousness helped because her master never once had to bail her out of a situation (and he made it clear he had no intention of bailing her out should she ever screw up). Her time in Kezan was still unnervingly dangerous, but for some reason she found the faux-niceness and cheesy businessmen to be rather charming. The lifestyle of goblins was surprisingly upbeat when it wasn’t being cutthroat. Even though she was an awkward person she found anyone with coin could fit into goblin society.

When she grew up she started to travel, though she was still in contract with her master. She assured him she would work hard and send her earnings back to him through mail. The goblin actually trusted her with this, and she was true to her (written) word. Maya developed her own steam suit so she could “safely” explore Kalimdor, though she mostly stuck to Horde and cartel territory. She didn’t forget her orcish ties in the time, in fact, she was happy to make some coin building demolishers, zeppelins, and siege engines for the Horde.

Maya didn’t always manage to keep out of trouble. Her journey outside of Kezan was filled with many things including numerous times where she was kidnapped (even enslaved), or left without a coin to her name. Because of her contract she always had a home to return to back in Kezan, and there she always found a way to work and get herself back up onto her feet. Each time came with a firm scolding, but by now the master too saw her as if she was one of his own, and didn’t really want to burn any bridges with such a determined and resourceful apprentice.

To this day Maya spends her time traveling about and working contracts. She wants to strengthen her connection with the Horde, though she knows the time is coming soon where she’ll have to take her om’riggor, or remain a young welp in her the eyes of her peers. Given her dislike of animals, blood, and gore, she knows this is not going to be an easy thing. If anything she has used it as an excuse to continue not searching for her family, because she’s afraid of being a failure in their eyes.

Skills and Abilities

Engineering

Proficiency: Mastered (goblin engineering)

Devices

  • Steam suit: while other steam warriors ride in a giant machine Maya has built hers into a wearable suit she walks around with. It is very heavy and uses phlogiston or other types of fuel to power and carry itself. When the suit is out of gas it shuts down, and Maya has to either refuel, or abandon it. She has a backup fuel cell that gives her at least 20 minutes to refuel in the event she runs out.
  • Lightning in a box: the warrior skill of thunder clap has her electricity supported by this device.
  • Robotics: Maya specializes in robotic devices that are complex. This is mostly applied to large machines such as siege engines, where she works in a team to get one finished and complete. Maya has her own clockwork rocket bot as a companion.
  • Guns: Maya builds her own guns. Her rifle has a wide barrel and is meant to shoot heavy/armor-piercing rounds as a way to attack machines and large enemies. Her pistol dispenses darts that are filled with the alchemical weapon (and occasional potion) of her choice. She uses her injections to heal and enhance her ally’s combat skills.
  • Knowledge: Maya’s knowledge in machinery helps her search for weak points in war machines, appraise the value of devices, and assess their use. She can attempt to use a new goblin device she hasn’t seen before but risks some amount of failure.

Alchemy

Proficiency: Intermediate

  • Potions: Maya can make crude healing potions, and potions of strength.
  • Fuels: Maya can craft her own fuel out of the right resources.

Other

  • Hiking the paper trail: Maya is experienced with contracts and loopholes and is not easily duped in business matters.
  • Business man: Maya knows when a deal is good.
  • Support: Maya supports combatants rather than fight herself.
