Personality

Maurek is a strong Tauren, and a wise Shaman. He comes at his problems with the plodding determination of his race, taking everything to its logical (as he views it) conclusion before moving on to something else. He is slow to anger, but once roused he doesn't back down easily and won't hesitate to call lightnings on anyone who gets him riled.

All Shaman are equal in his eyes, though he looks down upon those who side with anyone he sees as an enemy of the spirits. The Earthen Ring is an authority he has a deep respect for, even though many of its members aren't of his kind.

He detests users of Arcane magic such as Magi, Warlocks, and Blood Elves, and holds most Alliance races in contempt due to what he sees as their reckless disregard for the natural world. Undead are abominations, and he can't stand the smell of cursed flesh. Maurek doesn't believe the Undead and Elves have any place in the Horde as it is. As he prefers Shamanism over Arcanistry he believes all Horde should be in tune with nature, and not trying to control it. Anyone who does isn't a part of the Horde in his eyes.

History

Maurek was groomed to be a Shaman from an early age. He began to hear the spirits speak to him on the winds and rain in his early teens, just as all Tauren Shaman begin to hear the call. Maurek entered the long ordeal of a Shaman's rites to bring honor to his name, and balance to the world.

Long after the idealism of Maurek's early life faded, he began to wander the world. In his long meditations he spoke with many of the spirits of Mulgore and the western lands, traversing deserts and marshes, tropical jungles and desolate steppes. He had heard first the spirits of air, and decided they were to be his guides above all others. In all the places he traveled he sought the highest peaks, and the greatest and oldest spirits of his element. In the whispered words of the wind and the violence of the great thunderstorm Maurek found peace.

The spirits spoke to him clearly one day. His offerings called the voices of a great thunderhead to his ear. "Follow the west wind, the south," they said, "hear our lightning kiss the earth." The Tauren ran for hours in the rain, with the wind at his back. Finally he came to a blackened tree, the place where the sky had touched the earth for that brief moment. He took a still-lit branch and branded symbols into his chest and arms, symbols of the winds to show he was forever bound to their service.

Maurek returned to Mulgore on the urgings of the great west wind, following its course home to the Tauren tribes and the New Horde under Thrall. Maurek found Shamanism in the old Orcs, a thing that brought great admiration from him. He knew the deeds the Orcs had done for his people, and vowed he would help them alongside each and every member of the United Tribes. Today Maurek again wanders, still working to appease the sky, and speak to the spirits he has sworn himself to.
