Appearance

Marina has a wide choice of clothes, usually varying them according to the climate of the region. When in her homeland, the Eastern Kingdoms (Central and South region) she will wear lighter dresses and hats. Her most commonly seen set for warm climates is a thigh-length short dress, green and embroidered with golden strings, along with black stockings and boots. Along with it she wears a green sunhat, adorned with a golden ribbon. She usually carries a thing, very sharp sword in a sheath bound to her belt. It's a surprisingly light sword but fragile enough for Marina to not consider using it against armor, or even for blocking and parrying.

Other: Marina has mildly poor eyesight and needs to wear reading glasses in order to fix her sight. A sickness at earlier age wounded her ear drums and since them her hearing has been prejudiced; it is hardly noticed during normal conversations but she will have a hard time when speaking in a low tone of voice. Because of this her voice can be notably loud at times.

Personality

Alignment: Neutral

One strong aspect present in Marina is her unusual state of happiness. Marina smiles and laughs so often that people think she's having a really good day almost all the time. She's friendly and open to contact and conversation with most races, always managing to find a perk of interest in each of them. She enjoys knowing more about people, and learning about things she may not have had the opportunity to learn about before. Being flirtatious is another perk of her personality, though Marina considers herself too young to settle down with marriage. Marina trusts her own abilities with rare moments of doubt, but prefers to stay out of trouble and fights as often as not. She almost always will say she's just a traveller or an arcanist apprentice. If pressed and forced to it she may end up having to show her warlock abilities, but still prefers to have the least possible number of people knowing about it. Marina avoids making enemies but eventually ends up earning one or two at chance. From under her usual happy and friendly behavior there is a stronger perk of cruelty and lack of mercy, usually reserved to people that have earned her distaste.

History

Natural from a family of mages, Marina had been born within a peaceful time, years before the invasion of Lordaeron. She and her parents lived in a comfortable, humble cottage close to the capital city. Her father would work as a teacher while her mother was a librarian in the small book business she owned. Marina's family lived peaceful and with decent assets to provide her with a future to look forward. Her childhood was filled with good, warm moments she learned to treasure much later in her life.

Since early in her life she showed interest for magic, though not yet able to use it. She loved reading books and could spend hours at her mother's office, reading about the basics of magic or sometimes just running through the pages to look at the pictures. She found the concept of magic as something miraculous and fancy, and wanted to follow the same path her parents did.

Most of her early learnings of magic were acquired through books and instructions from both her parents. At the proper age, Marina finally showed to be able to start performing actual magic. Her abilities were nothing unusual, just what one would expect of an average youngling learning arcane, but she was dedicated.

Marina grew into her young teenage with a healthy interest in learning more. As a way to expand her knowledge, her parents decided to move to a nearby, allied kingdom, Stormwind. They took home at the capital and with the funds brought from their belongings at Lordaeron they funded Marina's mother a new library, while her father took a job in a local alchemic shop. Marina entered the Arcane Academy of Stormwind as a student, to learn better from proper teachers. Not long after, her family got word that Lordaeron was under attack by an unknown force. In order to try and save the other family members that were still there, Marina's father traveled and returned to Lordaeron, but was too late. He could not find the family and supposed they were dead, or had been able to move away from the danger at Lordaeron. He waited a few days for the next caravan to leave, but upon eating from the infected supplies he was infected by the plague and eventually died, rising again as an undead.

Marina and her mother got news that her father was missing, and in an immature, desperate attempt to find her father, Marina traveled to Lordaeron with the help of a mage friend. Upon arriving there she only found a few camps of survivors that were on full retreat away from Lordaeron. Marina got word from the survivors that there was a last caravan coming to a rendezvous point in order to evacuate. One old man offered to take her there, stating he also had family that could be there. Marina and the old man traveled more to the North but found nothing but wastelands. Noting their efforts were useless, they meant to make their way to return but were ambushed by a small group of ghouls.

Marina thought she would die there. Her magic was nowhere close to strong to defeat one ghoul, let alone a group, so she attempted to escape with the old man. Their escape attempts were cut off by their foes and in the end they were surrounded and their only way left was into a small wooden house. They took shelter there and barreled the entrance, the windows already having been sealed by an earlier inhabitant of the place. They were there for long and painful moments, with the ghouls battering against the house relentlessly, aiming to skewer the ones inside. The girl sobbed in desperation, knowing she would die there. She looked around for Dorian, as if finding him could be a solution. He wasn't there. At some moment he had moved to the other room and locked himself there. He had abandoned her, left her in the main room as a meal for the ghouls, so he could escape.

The girl pressed her back against the door leading to Dorian's room, whimpering and shaking. She could see the claws breaking through the door, pulling large chunks of wood. She wasn't counting but in a moment that was too soon, the door was broken, torn from its hinges. Ghouls squeezed through the doorway and charged at her direction, one piece of wood being thrown at her head and causing her to lose sight for a moment. She waited for the claws, teeth and the stench. It didn't come. Maybe time was slowing down. It still didn't come. Marina felt something breathing heavily over her head. She opened her eyes to see at least three ghouls split in half, in front of her. When she looked up, there was this massive wall of muscles bending over, staring at the door with a furious grin. The creature shoved her aside and walked outside, slicing more ghouls that attempted to attack. Dorian came out of the room and took Marina on his arms, comforting her. She smiled a last time, then passed out, hurt, exhausted, afraid.

Marina did not know how long she was asleep, but woke up with a heavy headache, her head pounding with pain, wrapped in bandages. She was sitting on a bed, without a doubt. She looked around but could not recognize the home as hers. Marina managed to sit on her knees and peer out of the window, recognizing Stormwind. Many days had passed probably, for them to have already returned. Sadness hit Marina, wondering if she would be able to find her father back at home, but more importantly, if he was even still alive.

The old man entered the room and sat upon a chair, his old, frail body covered with rather rich garments. She asked him what had saved them. “You will do better to forget, child.”. He replied to her. She insisted, wanting to know if he was a mage, if he was the one that called upon the creature that saved them. He merely nodded an answer before telling her to rest and leaving the room. Marina woke up with her mother sitting by her side, asleep. She patted her side to wake her up and mother and daughter shared a warm embrace. Her mother broke the hug and wavered, telling Marina that a letter had arrived at her home from a soldier of Lordaeron, stating that her father had fallen to the Plague and been found, but killed. Marina felt her chest tightening, then fell asleep once more, not wanting to think about her father's death. When she woke up at night she was alone, her mother had probably left to home, and only then, alone, she cried. Long hours passed and Marina only managed to rest by dawn.

Later, in the morning of the same day, she left her bed for the first time after her recovery to have a meal with the old man. She could see his house, and a maid, enough for her to understand he was no mere commoner. She had no idea of what he was doing at Lordaeron back then but preferred not to ask. The man greeted himself as Dorian, an old arcanist teacher. Marina introduced herself as well and the two had a long conversation that day. She later returned to her own home, managing to walk again, the wound in her head almost gone.

Marina recovered well and returned to her studies, but often paid visit to Dorian. The old man found it interesting and entertaining to have her visits and accepted to assist with her learning of arcane. He taught her for almost two years, but once inquired again about the creature, the demon he had summoned, he asked her to make a choice. She could proceed in her training with him, but if she did that would be a road with no return. Marina, still impetuous, accepted it right away and Dorian revealed to her he was an artisan of the darker arts, a professor of warlockery. Uncorrupted, yes, but no less hated for what he did.

She only had suspects, since she thought about the demon and how she was saved and had come to a conclusion that it was a summoned being, and not one elemental. Marina decided to spend a time away from the old man, afraid of him, knowing well enough how harmful and cruel the Fel arts were said to be. Still, she thought of her father and of her inability to save him, and even herself. Yet the old man had been able to save her easily, while keeping himself away from harm. Making up her mind, she returned to his home and asked him to be her master.

One night she decided to take her training to a higher level. She had summoned creatures before, and knew how to control them, to bend them to her will. Yet there was one she had not called upon yet. She found a soulshard at her master's room and then moved down to his dungeon, taking a long time doing preparations for the summoning circle. She called upon her power and her will, and began the summoning. The creature that slipped out of the circle was the same one that had saved her years ago; she could not forget it, a Fel guard. The guard screamed at her and charged to attack. She could have had the ability to summon it, but it never meant she was already powerful enough to control it. It was a stroke of luck that made Dorian be there to subdue the creature's mind before he could reach Marina.

Dorian at least took she had the ability to summon a servant this strong, even if not skilled enough to control it. He deepened his teachings on Fel magic and summoning, allowing her to learn how to control the Fel guard. A few more years would pass and Marina would learn more, though since early Dorian taught her how to avoid being corrupted and being manipulated, giving herself away to the Legion. She followed his teachings to the note, studying with him for many more years, already an adult by then. Dorian however, had to leave to Northrend, stating he would join the Argent Crusade in their fight. Marina did not go, but promised to continue her studies while he was away. She stayed to take care of his home, studying from books and scrolls. Later, Marina got a letter from Dorian, requiring her to come to Northrend and put her training to practice.

Marina, under Dorian's wing, served the Argent Crusade faithfully in their war against the Scourge. With her abilities and slowly gaining battle experience, along with Dorian' support, Marina was a useful asset to the Crusade. However, during a battle, Dorian was gravely wounded and Marina returned with him to Stormwind. Dorian recovered from the wound but his old age was taking too hard a toll on his body. Weeks passed and his body withered and then he passed away, leaving his belongings and teachings to the only family he still had, Marina. Before passing away he asked Marina two things: One was for her to not fall, not die of corruption. The other was for her to keep smiling, for life reserved great things to her. Marina helped bury her master but promised in his grave that she would not put his teachings to waste, and that she would follow his promise to heart.

During the last years after the war, Marina has been improving her abilities, studying harder and travelling the land in order to keep her abilities honed while proceeding with her life and gathering resources. When not travelling she can be found back at Stormwind, either at her mother's house or at the one she received from Dorian upon his death.
