History

Born in one of the countless temporary camps built by the wandering Shu'halo high upon a great peak in the Barren plains of central Kalmidor, Makule's birth was a largely unimportant one. A Shamanistic mother and a Hunter-gatherer father, Makule was a child of typical parents. Infancy and young childhood were uneventful for the young Tauren, and as his tribe strode through the great plains, so did he learn to run, love and live the earth. Evenings were spent at the camp fire, hearing mystical tales and legends told by the masterful elders. Lush life was scarce in the harsh, blistering lands but Makule quickly learned to revere nature and the spirit in all things. The rare sight of an oasis was a pleasant one for the youthful Shu'halo, for he relished the interaction with tranquil waters and rampant growth typical of the small paradises.

Makule began his training as a hunter as he began his teen years. He took to the spear well, and learned many of its secrets as he began to unlock the wild's secrets. He was shaping up to be an excellent, if generic, Tauren. Staying with his tribe, the Thunderhorns, for his life ranging up to adolescence, he continued to hone his skills.

As is customary for all Shu'halo, Makule marked his transition from child to adult with a rite of passage. Leaving all but a pouch of herbs and a waterskin, Makule ventured to a place that was of spiritual importance to him; the crest of a high peak. The strong winds beat at him and the harsh stone harmed his feet, but his will was steadfast like the earth and his spirit blazed like an open flame. For the first day, Makule sat in silent solitude. He reached out to the spirit-in-all-things and steeled himself against the open elements and the frigid winds brought on by dusk.

Then, as the cold abated at sunrise and as An'she showed its face once again, so did the spiritual guide Makule was told of by the elder shaman who set him on his path. A great eagle spirit showed himself and, by presence alone, revealed a great deal about Makule's inner self. He was strong of mind and body, but swift like the rushing gale. The eagle is the mightiest of hunting birds, but is humble. It speaks with a quiet voice, but holds great weight for it waits to speak at the perfect time. The eagle is close to the heavens and represents the spirituality brought by proximity to the Earthmother. Makule took these teachings to the heart, and was ready to leave.

The great spirit had other ideas. It beckoned the fledgeling hunter around to the other side of the peak, where a cave lay hidden by the rocky outcroppings. The cave was as barren as the plains, empty. Makule looked to the spirit for guidance but received nothing. Venturing inside, he began to hear low, predatory growls. Picking up his pace, he came upon a great she-lion stalking her prey, a young wounded gazelle. Realising quickly that he was to protect the injured creature, he fearlessly bounded into combat with the highmane. A short, unceremonious session of grappling with the beast and he was able to fell her. Thanking the lion's spirit for aiding him in his quest, he turned to aid the gazelle.

Makule returned to his tribe with the body of the highmane, and a spirit as high as an eagle. He was content with himself, for he had been successful in the rare occurrence that is a spiritual test. He skinned the lioness and cooked her meat with thanks to her spirit, feeding his small tribe for the night. He kept for himself a single fang as a charm of good luck and a reminder of his test.

As Makule completed a task set by the spirits, he was destined to become a Shaman. He took to this new role with some hesitance, but quickly came to relish the rich cultural and religious life he led. Studying for many years the elements, the natural world, the spirits and the Earthmother herself, Makule was content in his path. Makule's strength was also lent to fending off the centaur horde. Times grew difficult for the Tauren, and the constant stress of war took its toll on Makule.

Many years later, when the time came to expose himself to the elemental spirits and seek their judgement, Makule travelled to Red Cloud Mesa, in southern Mulgore. The high peaks and open plains were exposed to the elemental spirits and the natural beauty and serenity of the area pleased Makule. Setting himself in the middle of a great, empty plain, Makule called the Elements to judge him. But, he received no response from the Elements. Dread hit his gut, but he was not yet disheartened. He meditated, and called out more to the spirits for insight and contact. This time, he received a response, but not one he was expecting. Ancestral spirits melded themselves with his mind and began to tell him of ancient ways, skills and abilities. He was the next in a long line of Spiritual Champions and it was his duty to serve as a protector of the the wilds, the Tauren and their culture.

The next few decades were spent much the same as his previous life. He championed the spirits and gladly fulfilled their tasks as well as hunting for and protecting his tribe against the centaur threat. As Makule grew to find a mate and bring new life in to the world, so did more and more of the centaur bear down on the Tauren. The braves fought with valour but could do little to stem the bursting tide.

Cairne Bloodhoof turned in desperation to the Green-skinned aliens from across the sea. He quickly befriended the Orcs, promising to give aid in their quest to become shamanistic once again. For this, the Orcs banded together with the Tauren and were able to drive back the centaur and claim a land of their own. Mulgore.

From there, Makule went with the new Horde to Hyjal and fought the legion. It was there he lost half of his right horn, in a clash with a Felguard. As the threat subsided and the defiler was defeated, Makule travelled back to central Kalimdor to continue honouring the spirits and protecting his people.

Skills and Abilities

After meditation aided by calming herbs, Makule's mind and body are a conduit for Ancestral spirits. While he never harnesses visible spell-effects such as flames, Makule gladly heeds the spirits' advice and blessing. Combat-wise, Makule's skill lies entirely in spear-fighting. He possesses great knowledge of the natural world; skilled in herbalism and natural medicine. Makule's life as a travelling hunter has left him with both excellent tracking and plains-running speed.
