Personality

Mahumia is a friendly and patient tauren. The nomadic blood of her ancestors still flows through her veins, making her urge for journeys every now and then. She would prefer to compromise and find a peaceful solution to conflicts. However, as a last resort she would take up her weapon and fight.

She sees nature as a precious gift of the Earthmother, which should be preserved and taken care off. One shouldn't take more then he needs and should make sure that the balance is assured. Killing and be killed for food is part of the circle of life, in her eyes. Since all things in nature have a spirit, everything should be threated with respect.

History

She was born in the Barrens and lead a nomadic life with the rest of her tribe. From early on she was learned to understand and listen to the ways of nature. She was only a child when her tribe would follow the Bloodhoof tribe to Mulgore, in order to be able to defend themselves better against the marauding centaur.

At first she was a bit shy and careful when she came across orcs. They seemed so harsh, with their green skins, muscular bodies and rough behaviour. But her mother told her how the orcs had helped the Tauren and Cairne Bloodhoof. Soon enough she found out that they shared more then was visible on the first sight, as the Orcs began to rediscover their shamanistic powers.

On the relatively safe plains of Mulgore she learned to hunt, to fight and to honor the Earthmother. She loved to sit at a waters edge, holding a fishing rod and dreaming away whilst the bait bobbed easily on the water. Quite often she wasn't even using bait, but used it as a good excuse to have some time for herself.

When she reached the age of 50 the elders of the tribe sent her to Red Cloud Mesa, in order to fulfill her training and become an adult.

The rites took a few months to complete and were very intense to her. Never she had felt such a close relationship to the Earthmother as there, where she was amongst other tauren of the same age, all searching for who they were and prove themselves.

Then the big day arrived. An elder, greyfurred druid would give her her last test. He took her along and together they wandered across the plains. They stopped standing in front of a large stone, which was covered in glowing runes. Mahumia laid her staff on the ground and kneeled in respect. The elder held a cup in front of her: "Drink this, child". She took the cup and emptied it slowly. After that she placed the cup in front of her, lowered her head and closed her eyes in order to concentrate.

"Child, you've just drank a cup of water, a precious gift of the Earthmother. When you take something, you have to make sure you won't take too much. If nature turns ill, it is our responsibility to restore and heal. Do you promise to live in balance with nature, to heal if needed and to respect all beings of the Earthmother?"

Mahumia answered clearly and full of confidence: "I promise"

The elder placed a bone figurine of a bear in the cup in front of her. "The bear symbolizes divinity and invulnerability. Will you wander the forests with the heart of the bear? Protect those who need it and be a loyal mother to those who come and seek shelter?" She nodded slowly and answered "I will"

The old tauren smiled and placed a lion tooth in the cup. "The lion is a symbol of strength, courage and life. Shall you hunt with the heart of the lion? Only kill when you need to and make sure that the kill is swift and with a minimum of suffering?" "I shall"

The druid placed a feather in the cup. "Birds stand for exploring, liberation and spirituality. Would you keep a keen eye on the happenings in our world, ensure your freedom and those of others and let yourself get carried along with the winds of nature?" Mahumia held one hand up, with the palm turned upwards, when she answered "I would, I would do my very best to be a good druid and tauren. To respect and honor the Earthmother and all spirits who live in harmony with eachother. I would persuade those who want to harm nature and all beings to stop their actions and to listen to the song of the wind, the chattering of the forest and the poems of the plains..."

The elder put his hands on her shoulders. The strong but gentle grip made her relax. "You've got a good heart and mind, child. You've placed an oad to the Earthmother now. In the years to come you'll learn a lot and come across things beyond your imagination. You'll be part of nature and every now and then you will need help and advice. Such is the way of life and the key to survival. Never forget who you are and why... young druid."

Mahumia lifted her head and looked at the old Tauren. He smiled at her, his old but fiery eyes staring right at hers. She smiled back at him: "Thank you Elder."

After the ceremony she returned to her tribe to celebrate that she passed the trials. Only a few weeks later she collected her belongings and went on a journey, following her heart, to see where she could help and learn more.
