When she’s at home or out in public, she will wear regular shirts, trousers and sometimes dresses, something a human friend introduced her to. She likes to wear a rose in her hair, and replaces it as soon as they wilt.

Personality

Mahri is a cheery, sweet and friendly person on the outside with the trauma of her past tormenting her on the inside. She is both a pragmatic survivalist and a welcoming and hospitable sweetheart, the latter being due to the loss of her family and those that loved her, for she longs for companionship and acceptance. She is an honest girl, and hates seeing people suffer, having suffered so much herself and seen her loved ones suffer even worse. She cherishes friendship, afraid of being alone again like she was after the slaughter of her people. She is very caring, protective and even fussy over her friends and companions, paranoid that she’ll lose them like she has in her past. Her feelings are easily hurt and unkind words or insults will likely make her upset.

She loves and respects nature, especially flowers. Flowers are Mahri’s absolute soft spot, and collecting and growing them is her favorite hobby. She loves cooking, and learning and creating new recipes that others might enjoy. She does enforce healthy eating, but will give homemade treats to children that visit her or to friends that she wishes to give a gift to. She is interested in human culture, and avidly studies and practices it, though she still clings to the core ways of her people. To her, human culture is like a new life for her, something to make her forget about her history. She also respects druids, due to their similar views on nature to her, and enjoys the company of a Kaldorei.

Mahri is an avid gardener, and grows her own vegetables and flowers herself. She believes in self-sufficiency, and thinks every person should know how to look after themselves, though she certainly doesn’t mind helping people in need. She likes to climb, something she did as a little girl, and might even offer a race with someone up a steep hill.

Mahri has a severe phobia of all Orcs. She will panic upon seeing one, running, hiding and having anxiety attacks that in the worst cases might even result in hyperventilation. Violence among people terrifies her, and she clings to peace and pacifism. She is traumatized by the violent death of her people, and seeing even more violent death reminds her of this and sends her into panic mode. She may become very unpredictable and erratic when violence breaks out around her.

Overall, Mahri is a gentle soul who only wishes to make people happy and be happy, and she strives to make people like her and to live in peace and harmony.

Alignment: Lawful Good

History

Mahri was born on Draenor, in a village community in Nagrand. She was a very happy and active child, and loved playing with the other children, and helping out her elders with various tasks. She was pro-active from the start, learning how to make her own food and garden from a young age. Eager to prove herself to the others, she took up hunting as soon as she was old enough, starting with smaller game and gradually moving on to bigger things. She learned how to make shelters in the forests, often preferring her little handmade homes over the village, hiding in them and stocking them up with plants and game, building fires and practicing her cooking. She’d sometimes get in trouble for bringing her friends to her little forts and cooking them meals from plants and wild game, pretending that she was serving her family a big dinner. As such, everyone liked her and saw her as endearing and creative. She took a strong liking to flowers the moment she was introduced to them, as they were like beauty itself packed into one little piece of nature to her. She often put them in her hair, enjoying having them with her at all times. She enjoyed climbing during this peaceful time, and would often sit in trees and stare over the landscape, soon becoming a skillful climber.

As she grew up, she did indeed prove to be a very valuable member of the community. Even though she was still by all means a teenager in Draenei society, she was pro-active and helped keep her village stocked on food, lumber and supplies, and assisted with cooking for her people. She enjoyed being hospitable, and the others liked her very much. She also discovered she could sing, much to her absolute delight, and constantly sang as she went around her village, driving her elders crazy when she did it at the late hours of the night. She was always improving her hunting and survival skills, and loved finding new ways she could turn nature into various useful things like medicine, food, tools, and so on. She trained with a bow and arrow every day and soon became very accurate with it, discovering a natural gift for accuracy. Sometimes she’d host archery contests with her friends and impress them with her precise shooting. She was allowed to have her own flower garden in the village, and she very quickly had a huge collection of flowers which she visited daily to smell and look at. Despite all this taking from nature, Mahri always had a great respect for it, replanting trees she cut down, using as much of her game as possible, and only taking what she needs. Even though she loved beautiful things, she still enjoyed wrestling with others in the dirt and having playful fun. Mahri was indeed a happy and caring Draenei, however, this also made her very naïve. The blissful girl didn’t expect or even imagine what would soon happen to her people.

Mahri was sleeping in her room when the Orcs attacked her village as part of their slaughter of the Draenei people. She was woken by the screaming, and upon going outside to see what was going on, she was greeted by a scene that would stay with her for the rest of her life. Orcs flooded the village, and were killing everyone in sight. She saw her friends and family being cut down mercilessly as the village desperately tried to fight back. Mahri stood in shock at the scene, frozen. It was only when her father tackled her out of the way of an Orc’s axe that she snapped into motion. Her father stood and fought the Orc, and shouted for Mahri to run. She did so, with a blank expression on her face, still in shock. She watched as her father was cut down from a distance, and her mother was nowhere in sight. For an hour she evaded and hid from the Orcs in her village as everyone that she’d ever known was brutally slain, and her home was burnt to the ground. The bodies were piled up like garbage everywhere, and eventually Mahri was the last person alive that wasn’t an Orc. She was forced to hide in a pile of the dead corpses of her friends and relatives, playing dead until the Orcs left.

When the Orcs had left, Mahri, in a state of advanced shock and trauma, her mind so jumbled and confused and unaware of what was going on, was only capable of running. She ran from her village, and had no breath or air to scream with, her heart was pounding, ears ringing, head spinning and she wasn’t even sure if any of this was real. She escaped from immediate danger into the thickest forests of Nagrand, and fell onto a pile of leaves, vomiting all over herself and passing out.

Mahri was forced to survive on her own, alone and afraid, while strange people decimated her race. She cried every night, hoping someone would comfort her like they did before whenever she cried about something in her village, but the uncaring, groaning forests offered no response. She kept going, her hobby becoming a way of life now, and her survivalist hobby actually involved surviving now. She was good before, but the five years she had to keep herself alive in the wilderness and always be on the move made her an expert at hunting, fishing, and making medicines from plants and doing everything she did before, only this time her life depended on it. Mahri was a master survivalist when the five years passed, and the slaughter ended. Her only friends were the wildlife she had tamed and adopted during her life on the run, but that soon changed.

Mahri woke to living hell one day in her shelter. A colossal earthquake shook her awake, and trees were falling all around her. She left her clearing to discover cataclysmic destruction of the land around her. Strange portal-like entities were appearing everywhere, and Mahri had no idea what was going on. She dodged falling debris and trees as the world was literally ripped apart around her. It was like the attack on her village all over again. A falling rock struck Mahri in the back of the head and she passed out. When she woke, she was buried underneath piles of debris, and she had cuts and wounds all over her. She climbed out to discover the destruction around her; the land was warped and did not look the same.

Surviving was different now. She wasn’t sure what happened, but there was destruction as far as she could see. Her survival was more scavenging through the wreckage now than it was taking nature’s gifts. She decided to keep travelling, not even bothering attempting to discern what happened. After a long time of living like this, the battered and broken girl stumbled upon the settlement of Telaar, freshly rebuilt after the destruction of her world. The normally very wary and cautious Kurenai instantly took the injured Mahri into their care. She looked as if she had been trampled by an Elekk thirty times over. She had never seen another person in years, and even though the Broken were alien to her, she was relieved to see them. She had a plethora of questions, and was educated on why the Orcs attacked and what happened to Draenor to create the Outland. It was too much for her to take in, and she immersed herself in her old forgotten ways, cooking food and being her hospitable old self for the Kurenai as thanks for their supporting of her. As the years passed, Mahri attempted to heal and put her traumatic, horrible past behind her, returning to her roots as much as she could. And even though she acted somewhat like she did before, she was not the same, and never would be. Her innocence and naiveté was long gone.

Longing for a new beginning, Mahri learned of the strange land “Azeroth” and the Alliance. All of it fascinated her, and she barraged the Alliance Draenei soldiers visiting Telaar with questions every time she saw them. One of them smiled and suggested she visit Azeroth. She hadn’t even considered that she could do that, and enthusiastically asked the robed soldier how she can do this. He offered to open a portal to the Exodar and take her there. She was ecstatic, and packed her things right away. Her new life was within reach!

Upon arrival at the Exodar, Mahri’s grin shrunk. The place looked devastated, and she stared with awe at the massive crashed ship. She decided this place was too much a reminder of her past, so she asked around where she could find something totally different. She was directed towards Stormwind and Elwynn Forest, and it was decided. She took a boat to the Eastern Kingdoms, where she also saw a “human” for the first time. It was the captain of the boat she took, and she leaned down and peered over him as if he were an alien. And he literally was, to her. When she arrived at the Stormwind docks, her jaw dropped. Her senses were overloaded with new smells and sights. This truly was another world. She approached every human, dwarf and elf and greeted them with a wide smile and excited wave, who returned the gesture to the Draenei with bemused stares. Eventually, she walked out into Elwynn, and was delighted at the beautiful forest. There were no orcs, no portals. Mahri could call this home. She decided to set up in the forest, and go back to her old ways, making friends with humans in Goldshire and Stormwind. She quickly became fascinated with human culture, even adopting some of it into her own ways. She invited everyone she met to her home so she could cook them dinner and talk to them and ask them questions. She wanted to recreate her old life, and she felt like she had a chance to do that now.

Mahri lives in Elwynn to this day, still working on healing and putting her troubled history behind her. What better way to start over than with a new planet, she reasoned. Her old fear of Orcs was renewed when she heard of the war between the Horde and Alliance, and she hopes she’ll never come across one. She related to the humans quickly, as the Orcs had taken from them as well as her, and she shared common interests with them, and as such made many friends. As the years passed, Mahri was finally returning to her old self, but is now deciding to adventure and find a new purpose and calling.
