Appearance

Lionel often wears an assorted mixture of plate armor. He does not wear standard-issue armor, due to the fact that he is not currently enlisted in any military institution. He travels often and wears what he can find. When something breaks, he'll either leave it where it sits, or take it back to town for repairs, wearing what he can get his hands on in the meantime.

The only item he is attached to is his hammer. He does not have the same proficiency with a one-handed sword and he believes axes to be crude. Since he often travels alone or in a small group, he also carries a shield.

Personality

Lionel is a very level-headed human. He has always had to fend for himself, and lived in poverty for much of his youth. Compassion is Lionel's strongest virtue, but having learned about tenacity through the brutal events of his life, he is very resilient and brings stability to those around him. His experiences with his mentor and friend, Ilthilior Moonstaff, have helped Lionel bolden his trust in the Light after the turmoil that was the Third War. In their budding friendship, Lionel and Moonstaff have learned about each other's race and the value of respect, not only for the races of Azeroth, but for life itself.

History

Lionel Worgbane is the son of Faligorn and Caruviel Stoneheart. He was born in the town of Grand Hamlet (now rebuilt and known as Darkshire) two years before the First War ravaged the Kingdom of Stormwind. His parents were killed in the Orc invasion of Grand Hamlet, while Lionel's aunt, Heartha, escaped with the infant and his two young cousins. They eventually followed Lothar's mass exodus to the Kingdom of Lordaeron, where they would settle indefinitely in Tirisfal, the lands north of the capital.

When Lionel was ten years old, he and some friends traveled too deeply into the forest, into the forbidden groves where the trees become thick and light does not shine through. After hours of being lost in the dark, the boys encountered a lone worg, who chased and cornered them. In an act of desperation, Lionel stood between the worg and his friends. Wielding a rusty hammer, the only heirloom he received from his father, Lionel bravely faced the beast while his friends chucked stones from afar. Nicholas Vanderson, a local huntsman and father to one of Lionel's friends, had heard the ghastly howls of the worg and quickly came to the children's aid. He shot the beast with his rifle just before it was able to pounce on Lionel and the other boys.

After news of Lionel's stand against the worg traveled, he was visited by a Brother of the Church of the Holy Light, who was interested in his compassionate and tenacious actions. Soon after, Lionel was taken out of a life of poverty and placed into the care of the Church of the Holy Light, where he would live and train as an acolyte for the next eight years. The story of the worg encounter was greatly exaggerated, and it was not long before the locals were calling young Lionel: "Worgbane." The name eventually stuck, and he was from then on known as Lionel Worgbane.

After the events of the Second War and the new reforms of the Church of the Holy Light, the Knights of the Silver Hand were growing in size and influence and were looking for recruits to bolster their ranks. On his eighteenth birthday, Lionel was inducted into the Knights of the Silver Hand and began his intense training under the watchful eye of Saidan Dathrohan's best in Stratholme. After six years of grueling work, Lionel graduated from his basic training and returned to Lordaeron to serve the kingdom as a Knight of the Silver Hand.

He returned to a broken home; his rebellious cousin Bernel had been gradually alienating himself from his old and weary mother, forcing his sister, Lemorre, to take care of her alone. Bernel was generally disliked among the public for his crudeness and disregard for customs, while Lionel upholds the image of the Paladins, causing a rift to form between the two. After two years of being secretly involved in the Cult of the Damned, Bernel disappeared and took Lemorre with him. Lionel never saw them again, and in the few months that pass after Bernel's disappeance, Heartha died from sickness and grief.

Lionel has little time to grieve for his aunt, for immediately after her death, tales of a great plague reach Lordaeron. In a few, short months, Lionel is thrust into the events of the Third War. When Lady Jaina Proudmoore pleads for the people of Lordaeron to evacuate their homes and leave on an expedition to the mysterious land of Kalimdor across the seas, Lionel, with the recent loss of his aunt and cousins, decides to leave with her and assists in the great journey across the sea.

After his arrival in Kalimdor, he followed Jaina to the Battle of Mount Hyjal, where with a fragile alliance of Orcs, Night Elves, and Humans, he helped defend Nordrassil, the World Tree, against Archimonde and the Burning Legion. After the events at Hyjal, relations between the Night Elves and Humans were still delicate. Jaina and her forces returned to settle in Theramore and establish a human foothold in Kalimdor. Lionel becomes a temporary emissary for Theramore to the Night Elves, where he meets his friend: an emissary of the Night Elves to the humans, Ilthilior Moonstaff.

Three years after the events of Hyjal, Admiral Proudmoore came to Kalimdor with Kul Tiras troops and invaded the Horde strongholds in Durotar. During this time, Lionel is making his return from Night Elf lands, accompanied by Ilthilior Moonstaff. He arrives in Theramore to find the city in ruins. He, along with Moonstaff, assisted in the effort to rebuild the town.

After the shipping routes open up to Khaz Modan, Lionel travels back to the Eastern Kingdoms with Ilthilior Moonstaff to assist in the effort to reclaim and rebuild the lands lost by the Third War. It is here that he remained until the events in the World of Warcraft.
