Appearance

Usual Garments/Armor: Possessing a rebel persona, she tends towards dark colors, preferring black and blue, primarily. She might wear dark red or purple on occasion, too. While her casual clothes vary, her travel/battle armors consist of thick, hard leather on vital parts of her body, while other sections are left bare, allowing more flexibility. She also will usually have pockets, packs and satchels at the ready for her to store any manner of tool or device in, and rarely goes around without some manner of weapon sheathed at her hip or back, even when dressed in civilized clothing.

Other: For weaponry, she tends to favor straight blades, especially long swords, as her primarily implements. She’ll also usually have a few daggers on her, both obvious and hidden, and has been known to throw them for ranged attacks. From there things get somewhat convoluted as she might carry on her any assortment of alchemical potions, poisons, mechanical gizmo, or random explosive, meaning she can appear as a walking treasure-trove of randomized death, at least to those who don’t know her.

Personality

As many of the things previously mentioned might suggest, Lenalia is a bit of a loose-cannon type who favors random chance over decision making or planning. She adventures and fights because she’s unfit to live the “quiet life”, both for her own failings and because those she would live with likely wouldn’t be able to stand her.

While it’s not overtly obvious, the elf has a hard time taking commitments and relationships seriously, considering it all a bit like a game. For her, deep emotions are a bit of an enigma and she has a hard time handling it when she’s being affected by them. As a defense mechanism, whenever she begins to succumb to such things as love, grief, rage, hatred, and so on, she almost automatically lies, jokes, quips, or manifests any other manner of distraction to avert her attention from those emotions so she can avoid them. The more directly noticeable result of this to those around her that’s fairly negative is a self-destructive personality, in that she usually will act with little or no regard for her own personal safety.

The girl’s not all bad, though, and honestly does try her best to stay loyal to her “friends”. Ultimately, history would suggest that she’d pick her own wellbeing over that of those close to her, but it’s not a choice she’d make lightly.

She’s a fairly simple creature, her self-serving nature and casual personality making her easy to please. Rather than fighting for the thrill of adventure, which would be in her nature to do, she does so for coin, as she’s learned the most pleasurable things in life must be bought. Beyond that, her money goes to maintaining her ability to adventure (repairing equipment, restocking supplies, etc).

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral, leaning evil – Lena is, in general, self-serving, and at best she’ll take from others to give to those she cares about, with the hopes of making them happy (and with little regard for the happiness or well-being of those she’s doing the taking from). At her worst, she regards life as being of little importance, and will rarely show qualms about killing those she deems “necessary”, which is a fairly arbitrary judgment, to say the least. She does have something against personal freedoms being stolen, and will fight against things like slavers or dictators, but she’ll always also seek to better her own situation as a result of such actions, likely seeking to take their money or property in the process of “stopping them”. Things like this are what keeps her from ever really being “Good”.

History

The rebel, hooligan elf known as Lenalia had, perhaps predictably, a fairly tame childhood. She grew up on what passes for a humble farm by elven standards, living with just enough luxury to grant her an appreciation for the finer things in life and a desire to have them. Her father was once a paladin of the Silver Hand, and had retired to live a simpler life with his family. Her mother was a one-time Farstrider, and though she did her best to be a home maker, she invariably slipped away to scout the enchanted forests, seeking the thrills of her youth. She also had a younger brother who was always a quiet, reserved boy.

Lena lived as a fairly innocent girl up until the Scourge came, with few worries beyond her duties on the farm, what cute boys down the road thought of her, how she wished her mother would take her into the forest, and so on. When the dead did come, her world was as heavily rocked as the rest of her people. Her father was determined to protect his family and what was theirs, not truly understanding the gravity of the threat. Her mother felt the need to act, and so went to help fight the undead. As the situation grew more dire, Lena’s father eventually decided they had to flee, but it was too late. The first of Arthas’ forces reached the farm, something of a scouting party. The former paladin had enough skill to defend himself, but he was out of practice, and Lena’s brother ended up dead. At about that point, the girl ran away, fleeing to the relative safety of the rest of her kin.

Lena survived the rest of the siege on Silvermoon, and the fall of the city. She eventually reunited with her father, but they found out her mother had been taken into the ranks of the Scourge. This, along with the loss of his son, left her father a broken man. He only grew worse as the magic withdrawals began, and all the pain Lena experienced, both physical and emotional, began her transformation into the selfish creature she would become in the future. She left her father to the care of others, turning her back on him entirely.

While each elf has their own story to tell, Lena believes to this day that she was one of the most eager to try draining the energies of demons once Kael’thas’ retinue returned to the city to save the people from their withdrawals. She felt no hesitation at any point during the time it took to rebuild Silvermoon afterwards in sating her addiction in such a way, for she felt that the Quel’dorei she had been died along with her family long before.

During those early years and all that followed up to when Deathwing visited the world, the elf took to her life of carefree abandon more and more. She came to resent her people for their, as she saw it, pathetic desire to return to the high elves they had once been, at least in life-style. She saw the creation of a new Sunwell (and thus a cure for their addiction), the reluctance to steal power from demons and the Naaru and whatever other source they could get their hands on, and the continued reluctance to properly solidify their allegiance with the Horde as steps towards becoming a race that she felt was, for all intents and purposes (and discounting the still-living High Elves), a dead race. Thusly, she’s come to largely consider herself neutral, though the hypocrisy of such is lost on her.

Regardless of her skewed views, Lenalia spent much of her time pre-Deathwing seeking solitude. She made her way through various jobs, from general thuggery to highway robbery, and even thievery. When she couldn’t safely do such things, she would seek more mundane work, taking most to tasks that involved tinkering. It was through such avenues that she developed her engineering and alchemical knowledge. Once the Cataclysm happened, however, she watched the world get ripped asunder and found herself feeling little emotion what-so-ever. Recognizing more on a subconscious level than a conscious one the pros and cons of her twisted mind and just how warped it had become, she began seeking more direct contact with the world. After all, if she could see the entire planet come under assault from such a tremendous force didn’t faze her, it was unlikely that meeting people and losing them, as she had her family and friends so many years before, would affect her much at all! With such thoughts in mind, she started calling herself a mercenary and struck out into the wide world, unafraid via selective ignorance of what might come next for her.

Skills and Abilities

Mechanical Aptitude: While no master inventor nor cunning innovator, Lena’s rough life has led her to learning the basics of mechanics so she can passably employ engineering devices. She can create some such machinations, but almost always needs a blueprint at hand to do so successfully. If push comes to shove, she can also figure out how to operate mechanical devices she comes into possession of, so long as they aren’t too terribly complicated.

Alchemical Familiarity: Much like Mechanical Aptitude, the elf has taught herself enough of alchemy to identify foreign potions and poisons without too much experimentation, and can create most substances when guides are at hand.

Dumb Luck: While not normally something considered a “skill”, Lena’s recognized by now that, considering her general lack of formal training, or anything else of the sort, her chosen lines of work should have gotten her killed long ago. She quickly learned after first becoming an adventurer that she needed to trust in her own instincts and believe that the outcome of events occurring around her would turn out for the best, and as such has come to rely on her “luck” to protect her in deadly situations, choosing odd or even idiotic decisions when dealing with problems and hoping for the best. And, so far, it’s worked out for her, the elf surviving to the day with few scars to show for it. She just chooses not to think about when her luck will run out…
