Personality

Curious by nature, Lara will gladly investigate any rumours abound, especially if there's some truth to those rumours. The human is generally regarded as kindhearted and friendly unless wronged somehow. As a Gilnean, she's also mistrusting of anyone who isn't from Gilneas as well. Though also mistrusting of those affected by the Worgen curse, they'll have an easier time getting Lara to trust them than any outsider would. Despite this, she'll befriend anyone of good nature.

History

Lara was born like many Gilneans. She had a mother, a father and a Lord. Unlike many Gilneans, however, her family had done well for themselves before the Greymane Wall was built. As archaeologists, however, they hadn't much of a job left and so lived off their savings as much as they could, their luxury limited by quite a bit. Despite famine in much of the kingdom, the Lord of the Reach managed to keep his coffers full and his people fed.

Several years passed and Lara studied well at school; another luxury many could not afford, even more so after the closure of the Wall. A youth of a mere fifteen, Lara had, much like her parents, discovered a liking in the histories of the world. Even with the wall closed, there was much to learn and so, through the experiences of her parents and the books she had access to in libraries, the young human learned. Even with the war starting, the Reach and the few people it had prospered, their Lord keeping them isolated from the war.

During the war, trips out of the Reach became increasingly more dangerous and so Lara and her family stayed home mostly. Thankfully, they had enough books left in the house to tide the eager Lara over and the stories her family told seemed to know no limit. Even so, Lara and her parents had eagerly set out into the hills to learn other useful skills such as hunting and camping in the wilds.

The civil war continued and the battles had almost become routine. Lara had returned to visiting the libraries, now a youth of twenty, and learning what she could of other ex-archaeologists in Gilneas, as well as her parents of course. They had all heard rumours of beasts in the wilds. The Lord of the Reach had his business in the capital and the Reach itself was ruled by his council. During another camping trip with her parents, however, something happened which no one was prepared for.

As they were getting ready for the night, the bushes along the campsite rustled. As Lara's father went towards them to investigate, a beast leapt out of the forests, pouncing on the girl's father and, as far as anyone could tell, killing him before noticing the two women. Scrambling back, Lara reached for her bow in the tent. As she looked back, the beast jumped at her before a spray of blood hit her instead.

Out of the beast's neck was sticking an arrow, her mother having managed to shoot the beast. With a growl, the wolfbeast turned to face the older woman and, snarling, went to attack her. "Run, Lara!" Lara's mother called before turning to flee. Strapping her bow around her shoulder and grasping her quiver, the young woman ran back for the town.

She soon reached her hometown again, bloodied and with tears in her eyes. As one of the townsfolk saw her, he called for a doctor and brought her inside. "Lara? What happened, girl?" He asked as the doctor checked her for any wounds. Taking a quivering breath, Lara looked up at the man, recognizing the face of one of her hunter friends. "A-a beast..." She managed. "In the woods... It... It killed them." "We don't know that yet, girl." He said, trying to reassure her.

The hunter had soon gathered a group of men, to try and find the two missing Cawthornes. As expected, they came back empty-handed. Not even corpses to show for their efforts. "They must've gotten away, Lara." The hunter told her after his return. "We found your camp. Found blood, aye, but no sign of your parents. I'm sure the both of them are sitting in an inn somewhere, worrying about their daughter." He said, messing up the youngster's hair. The simple gesture brought a smile to Lara's lips, even as she sighed sadly.

Remaining in the Reach, Lara had learned that there were more of the beasts out there now. Her parents had never been found and even Gilneas City had gone dark entirely. Patrols were set out to guard the Reach's borders and more than a few beasts and even men had been killed as they tried to sneak or otherwise make their way to safety. Eventually, even reports of walking dead men along the border reached them. Despite efforts to regain contact with the crown, everything had gone dark and the smallfolk of the Reach were forced to look to themselves for protection. An effort which rewarded them a tentative safety.

With no more news from other holdfasts, no one expected what happened next. One of the border guards, an older woman who had worked for the Lords in the past, returned early from her watch escorting none other than their Lord. A man with black, greying hair and green eyes, dressed in the tatters of expensive clothing, a sigil of a tower clutching to his throat. He told them of what had happened and what was about to happen; Of the mythical Night Elves landing on their shores, of the beasts regaining their sanity, of the evacuation across the ocean.

It was with some sadness that Lara left her home, yet also excitement at getting this opportunity to see the world outside of Gilneas. And so she joined her people and friends across the kingdom to Keel Harbour, where the Kaldorei ships were supposed to be. An old necklace clutching to her neck, her bow and quiver slung around her shoulder and as many of her possessions as she could fit in a backpack, the young human boarded one of the ships as it set sail to Darnassus and the rest of her life.
