Personality

Laeris has forcefully molded herself into what she believes is ideal for a Demon Hunter. She is cold, ruthless, and undeniably taciturn to the point where she just looks for a quick escape if she encounters anyone, attempts to systematically kill every demon she possibly could kill, and that she knows she can, and to the few she interacts with? They get almost nothing, and they would have to be a very close friend to get a conversation going. Even before she underwent her trials, she has had difficulty interacting with others, something she couldn't possibly care less about, just as she could care less about being considered a monster. Yet, despite all of this, she could just as well try being social as well as her usual taciturn self, as some of her former self still exists beneath her shell, however deep down that is.

History

Laeris Duskgazer was born to Banor and Elyna Moonwatcher, in Ashenvale several hundred years ago, and almost as soon as she could walk, she encountered a hurdle. She couldn't really mingle with the other children with ease. In fact, she had a great difficulty doing so. So she merely only interacted with them, if she truly had to. She just went about her business, otherwise. Eventually, adulthood rolled about, and she became a sentinel, like any other female in her society. Her social ineptitude had somewhat helped her during her training, in a sort of "Less people to talk to, more chance to better myself," sort of way.

However, the Third War, it happened around that time. Many of the people she considered acquaintances had died. However, three people that she had managed to actually befriend died during that time. Their losses, they pushed Laeris over what little edge there was. So afterwords, she simply left. She took her glaive with her, and she simply wandered Kalimdor, and eventually began to develop a taste for the hunt of the demon. As our tale goes,

She found her. She found a peculiar woman, bearing a blindfold, body adorned in tattoos, and bearing warglaives, using the fel against the fiends. This had piqued the curiosity of the elf. She attempted to follow this mystery elf. Eventually, she caught up and was promptly attacked, and in her curiosity, nearly killed by a demon. Or, rather, a lowly imp…that called in it's ugly little imp friends.

Eventually, in the midst of her struggle, the hunter had heard her cries, and, after viewing her struggling with vigor for a while, eventually finished the demon in one fireball. Laeris, however, she was a mess. The Hunter, who's name was Awesidiel, simply tended to Laeris' wounds. The wounded elf managed to get out the fact that she wanted to know exactly what she was utilizing, and if possible, learn to do that as well, out into the air, and Awes, having viewed her will whilst watching her fight the imps, informed her of the risks, and effects of the trials that would be imposed upon her if she continued with this mad intention. Being quite the vengeful woman at the time, Laeris accepted.

So it began…

The first trial, the physical test. Awesidiel was to attempt to hunt Laeris down, over the course of several months. The elf-in-training was only to have her wits, and a head-start of a couple of hours. The hunt itself, it was arduous, it was long, it was taxing, and the sure fear of Awesdiel happening to sight her prey was enough to make Laeris discard almost all her emotion, sans rage.

The Long Hunt, as both mentor and later the student herself referred to it as, spanned several of the lands within the continent of Kalimdor, and at the end of it all, Laeris was suffering from fatigue of all sorts. She collapsed onto the ground in Feralas, far from the settlement, and anything else. She was found by her mentor a few hours afterwards, and when she woke up in a cave with her mentor, Laeris simply remained silent.

Awesdiel Gladefeather was pleased, very pleased, that day.

When Awes decided it was sufficient time for the second trial, a written exam, she delegated a journal containing details upon all the demons she had encountered, and was given till the end of the month to study off of it. Eventually, the day of the exam rolled around. She had barely passed, with 92% of it.

Awesdiel had another task for Laeris. Find a demon of her choosing, slay it, retrieve it's blood…or it's heart, and return it to her. She did not explicitly state what she would receive for this, other than the fact that she was going to require training, with the warglaives. At last, the weapons with which she had associated her master with for a long while. She almost immediately proved to be a natural with them, and Awes, pleased with the progress her pupil had shown, dispatched her to find a demon and slay it. After that had been done, she was to drain it's blood and bring it back to her.

Knowing how far this would take her, Awes bid her pupil farewell, and entrusted her with a set of glass vials within a package, meant for the demon blood.

Laeris had found some quarry, a Felguard, and slew it with enough difficulty. She was going to extract just what she needed when she heard a much louder roar than a Felguard could ever hope to emanate. The huntress quickly took cover and looked towards the source. It was a demon much, MUCH larger than a Felguard. An Eredar…No, a Wrathguard. Laeris, feeling a bit of ambition rush over her, from having killed what seemed to be his lieutenant, took to resting up at a far off location, before returning to find the wrathguard, a day later.

Her prey had been waiting the entire time, waiting there to kill her. It knew who had killed the felguard at the scene. But in the demon's waiting, he had left himself vulnerable from the northwest. This vulnerability had been exploited by Laeris in the form of her slicing open the back of one of his legs as she moved in to engage the much larger and much more powerful demon, who despite his size and lack of ability to use one of his legs, was easily able to keep up and provide the trainee huntress a very difficult time, especially with his Flame Wave spell. Laeris learned the hard way not to stand in the fire. Eventually, the Wrathguard ended up with his blades stuck in the ground from a strike he had put too much power into, and that barely missed Laeris. He tried in vain to withdraw his blades in time to attempt ending the elf's life. However, the wound inflicted at the beginning of the battle slowed him enough for Laeris to outmaneuver and land her warglaives in the neck of the Wrathguard.

The Eredar collapsed onto the ground, and Laeris was unfortunately not spared the fall. She sustained a few minor wounds on top of the already major ones she had accumulated during the fight. Laeris had to act quickly to fill the vials with the blood of her fallen foe, as where there is a Wrathguard, there's almost always a much stronger demon nearby. She was in no condition to combat another one. Finally, with a full set of vials, Laeris made her way away from the corpse of the demon, and after another day of rest, went back to the relative unsafety of her mentor

She returned to Awes, who was…not exactly thrilled that her apprentice had drawn the attention of a more powerful demon in her hunt. Nonetheless, her master had been sated. Her reward was revealed. The tattoos that Awes herself bore. The tattoos of Control, and they were inscribed onto her with the blood of the Wrathguard as ink, granting her the twisting, corruptive power of the Fel. Laeris fainted at the end, and upon waking up, was caught up by abject fel sickness. Upon recovery, Awesdiel's words, to be simply put, summarized the next trial.

"You are to gouge out your own eyes, with this dagger that I have prepared specifically for you. You'll likely fall into a coma. If you succeed…you'll be granted sight without eyes. The Cursed Vision."

Laeris look towards the dagger, which was coated in an ichor that from the coloration, she assumed to be that of the Wrathguard she had slain. She gripped it…raised it up…and plunged it into her eyes, and carved them out.

Fall into a coma, she did. Awaken with the sight, she did. However, she had a nagging question at the back of her head. Why did Awes not state her punishment for the slip-up of attracting the attention of a Wrathguard?

Laeris soon found something to see her punishment as. Her final trial involved hunting down and killing a fallen hunter.

The prospect of this was a long and arduous task, and it took days, weeks before Laeris picked up the trail of a fallen demon hunter, tracking him to Felwood. This one was a blood elf. Tall, muscular, probably a dashing womanizer in his days, now reduced to a bloodthirsty, further corrupted husk of a mortal. The tattoos of Rage adorned this particular blood elf, and from what she had learned in her earlier trials, Laeris could only deduce that they had played a factor in his fall. But who was she to care? She had found her prey, and now she was going to take her prize.

Laeris engaged the elf in the same manner she had engaged the Wrathguard, though her method of a surprise attack was different this time. She slung a felfire ball as her opening attack. To make a long story a bit shorter, the battle was long and Laeris truly believed she was done for. However, as Awes Gladefeather's teachings went, those with the marking of rage have a large chance of becoming wild and loose. This was the Blood Elf's downfall, as he quickly used up much of his power attempting to take down the fledgling huntress. His final strike towards her was a forward jab with a warglaive engulfed in felfire. Laeris managed to parry it and send him reeling back with a swift burst of fire coming forth from the woman. Laeris saw the elf fall to the ground, defeated. She was inclined to give him a quick death, and she did. She set her glaives on the ground, procured a dagger and walked towards the elf. She pressed it to his throat, and slit it.

She then set to her task at hand, cutting out his heart, and despite her not getting Awes' bizarre instructions of draining the blood into her mouth, did as she was told. She drank the blood of the elf, and gained even more power.

"It is finished."
