She is commonly wearing her grey and black leather armor but can be seen occasionally in more casual cloth such as a vest and pants when the situation does not require armor.

Personality

Alignment: Chaotic Good

She is a bubbly young woman who is friendly and respectful on first meeting with new people until they show traits that tell her they do not deserve her respect. While a cheery spirit, in dire situations she almost turns into a different person, becoming serious and take-charge when there are lives in danger.

She is hot-headed when treated like a child or a simpleton due to her agricultural origins, often making enemies in nobles and people who look down on others. She will go to any length to protect the people close to her and will even break the law if something she sees as wrong or evil is happening around her, bordering on bloodthirsty. If no one will help her with taking down an evil person, she will not hesitate to go after them on her own, not caring about what the law may think. While she finds enemies quickly in the snobby and the wealthy, she also finds fast and close friends in the downtrodden and the less fortunate people who she can help.

Kate has been through a lot of dark things during her adulthood and this has warped her bubbly, happy persona into something much more mature and dangerous. She is practical in her dealings with people whilst still retaining her friendly and pleasant demeanor. She retains her disdain for nobles and hates being looked down upon for any reason. Her anger and aggression is constantly being kept in check by her friends and activities but if someone presses her buttons wrong, she will not hesitate to hurt them so that they get the idea she is not to be trifled with. Her violent nature has only increased over time and she has no qualms about killing someone if it serves a higher purpose or saves people.

She sees herself neither as being the 'good guy' or the 'bad guy', not believing she fits in the black or white category. Her name, the Grey Maiden, is both a reference to her time in the Grey Militia as well as her being a whole moral grey area. She hates pirates and murderers but won't hesitate to murder a pirate in cold blood. She is grey because while she is doing it to help people, she feels no regret about ending a life. Along with all the doom and gloom, Kate comes with a dry sense of humour and a strong will to defend those who can't defend themselves.

History

Kate grew up on a small farm in the Hillsbrad Foothills, just north of Tarren Mill. She lived a simple childhood of helping out on the farm and helping her mother sew, as her mother was a seamstress. As she showed more favour towards her father’s outdoors work than her mother’s sewing, which she found very tedious and repetitive where having to figure out the amount of something needed to fill a certain space of field was always a welcome task. She became a very strong tomboy and wasn’t in to playing with small dolls with the other young girls in the area.

When she was nine, her father bought her a small wooden toy bow for her Birthday and made up a target range out of some hay bales. Kate would practice with that small wooden weapon every moment she had spare until she eventually snapped the small thing a few years later. She had outgrown her favorite toy but not her passion for the things it could do. Living on a large piece of land has its advantages when you can cut down an oak tree and make a longbow from its wood. After crafting this new projectile weapon for herself, Kate became adept in archery and was able to shoot a 3 meters by 3 meters hay bale dead center from 100 meters by the time she was a woman.

Her dead eye along with her sharp mind made her the perfect hunter of game and she had soon made a living for herself by hunting animals and selling the hides to whoever would buy them, and odd jobs taking out bandits for a local Guard Captain helped her standing in the community. Being in good company among the guards, she was taught how to wield a blade effectively and she modified her style to allow for a second blade instead of a clunky shield. She, and her family, moved to Stormwind City before the her small village was sacked by Forsaken raiders and she decided to travel with the funds she had saved up, travelling Azeroth and going wherever she wished to go, unbound to any order, doing mercenary work or hunting dangerous game when she needed coin.

Her life has taken many twists and turns, some better and some worse. For a period of time, she worked for House Whiteshore as an archer and a spy. From the day she joined up, she knew there was something wrong there and when she found evidence that the house was doing horrific things, she took her best friend Drayke and got out as fast as she could. During her service there, she was critically wounded during a match against the house's champion and her sternum was broken, leaving her bedridden for weeks. She laid low for a while to evade the wrath of the House's head, who was hunting down all the members who had fled.

Before her official resignation, she was kidnapped and thrown into a cave with a group of strangers. Oddly, Drayke was in there with her and she was thankful that she would not be alone. When she was deposited here, her injury still had not fully healed and she spent most of her time in pain. Kate's time in that cave slowly broke defiant fighting spirit to the point where she accepted that she was going to die in there and became malnourished due to lack of ample food and water. Drayke made her a promise that he would never let her die if he could stop it. The things they had been through together gave Kate a sense of attachment to him and they soon escaped the cave with the scores of other prisoners but it took her weeks to recover fully.

After time, she found another group she was willing to join, The Grey Militia. Thankfully for her, Drayke decided he would join with her. She quickly found fast friends in the mercenary group and she felt at home with them. A certain Goblin named Kuzz Green showed her there was much more to life than fighting and he introduced her to the bad habit of smoking a combination of herbs as well as drinking. Kate soon became known the the Grey as KJ, Kuzz-Junior, due to her new habits. She didn't let them interfere with her combat or take over her life though.

For a brief period, she became romantically involved with Antione Harmonic but it broke off due to his problems as well as Kate's background desire for a single person. She would not have traded her life in the Grey for anything since it brought her friends, family, adventure and happiness. During a training exercise one day, she was shot in the chest with shotgun shrapnel and almost died. She would have if not for Drayke, Antione and a priest's quick aid. She was told after the incident that, despite her current involvement with Antione, she had called Drayke's name in her pained unconsciousness.

Her healing was quick and she saw the incident as comedic, figuring that she had nine lives like a cat and she's used up three of them already. Her life of adventure and companionship went on for a long time until after she played a key part in the fall of the Gadzgear Corporation, a hated enemy of the Grey. All her experiences caught up with her and she couldn't handle being around so many people who she might hurt.

She isolated herself from civilisation and lived in the forest with her Winterspring saber, Corvus, for months. By chance, she met up with Antione and Drayke on two separate occasion. Both of them told her that they had been worried sick about her and were happy to see her alive and well. Antione and Kate tried to rekindle their romance but it failed, Kate admitting that she only had feelings for the person she had been through hell and back with.

Kate's isolation was due to her not being able to cope with all the horrifying things she had been through. When she returned to civilisation, she was bloodthirsty and almost savage. She felt the desire to kill almost everything she walked past just out of pent up rage. She took her time and slowly got her rage under control until she became the smiling woman she used to be. Kate never would have regained her senses if not for the help of Drayke and Kuzz.

Kuzz then came to her one day and brought up the idea of starting a privateer business and Kate jumped at the though, always having had a burning desire to captain her own ship and sail freely across the high seas. The two of them procured a ship over time and gave her the name The Grey Maiden in honor of her own journey. Her days are now spent at the helm of the Maiden, hunting down pirates and raiders who would prey on merchant ships with her crew. She has Kuzz handle the diplomatic side and work with the money they collect. Despite her asking, Drayke declined joining her crew but told her that he would always help if she needed it.

With her new life, she feels more free than ever and finds happiness in her friends, her work and her experiences. She has confessed to herself that she will always love the person that stood by her side while she almost died thrice and accepts that he will not love her back but she remains hopeful. After the sinking of her ship, she had taken to aimlessly wandering the world as she searched for a new purpose, a new cause.

She found a way to pass the time in pit fighting, often in Dalaran's Underbelly. She found that the nitty gritty, no-rules brawling suited her perfectly and she made a killing as one of the most anticipated fighters in the business. Despite the small fortune she had amounted from her victories, she spent none of it, keeping a small spending amount on her while putting the rest in a bank account because she had no use for the money.

After months of being the champion fighter in Dalaran's pit fighting, she was ambushed in an alleyway on her way home and kidnapped by a mysterious elven mage. She was taken to a dungeon in a remote location where she was tortured and abused for several weeks, her unbreakable spirit keeping her going through the punishment of her failed escape attempts. Eventually she was able to escape her cell and became locked in a powerful struggle with her captor, Mira. After brutally killing the elf, she was rescued once again by her closest companion, Drayke Simmons.

This ordeal left her with a disgusted outlook on life, viewing other people with disdain and became very closed off, even to Drayke. Her mind has been broken and she longs for her death but her stubborn will to live refuses to let her life be taken, by another or by herself. Soon after, Kate came into contact with the Argent Crusade and found an old friend of hers who was a doctor for the Crusade. She began to get treatment for her mental trauma as well as a few unhealed injuries she had sustained. After months of living and working with the Crusade, Kate has come to terms with her ordeal and has set off into the world again with an uplifted spirit and a craving for excitement.
