Other: Ja'kari's entire upper body is painted in white, red, and black Zandalari symbols; red marks are most common, with white marks less common, and black marks rarer still, to the point that someone may meet him and miss them altogether. Trolls will notice each mark is a name, legitimate or descriptive; for example, a human he killed whose name he knew (perhaps because it was engraved into his armor) would have his name painted; a human whose name he did not know would be described (i.e., Red-beard, Pale-eyes). Red marks represent enemies killed and maimed post-mortem, rendered unable to fight in the afterlife. White marks represent allies he has preserved through self-mutliation or blood-spilling, living on to aid him in the afterlife. Black marks are enemies killed but left preserved, still able to fight in the world beyond. His face is painted as a skull. His arms are layered in scars from self-mutilation.

Personality

Ja'kari is oddly congenial around all races. He has a strange and morbid sense of humor, but that aside, he is an oddly hospitable companion considering his race. Most non-trolls will find his behavior pleasantly unusual, but an in-depth conversation with another Darkspear troll (the only beings he trusts) will reveal his truly dark personality.

History

Ja'kari was born Kari on the Darkspear Island. His mother died in childbirth, and his father (a Shadow Hunter) subsequently gave the prefix Ja' - meaning 'cursed' - to his name.

From the very start, Ja'kari was zealously superstitious, even by troll standards. His father, Zul'koa, was a Shadow Hunter, after all, and taught him all about of the existence and behavior of evil spirits. At a very early age, Ja'kari decided that his ancestors' spirits (or perhaps, the spirits of those his father killed in battle) had a particular vendetta against him. They had killed his mother, he surmised, in an attempt to kill him in the womb. He concluded that, as a sizable spiritual army was already at work against him, he could allow no more enemies to pass into the afterlife freely. He became well-versed in all manners of spiritual warfare, including cannibalism, head-shrinking and heat-burning. He learned how to spill living blood to distract evil spirits from the ascending spirit of his allies.

His father taught him how to channel the power of the Loa and how to crush others in physical combat. Ja'kari was an eager student, hungering for power. He intended to have the prowess to conquer his enemies in the afterlife. He even took an apprenticeship with an old potion doc, Iko. Slowly but surely, Ja'kari stacked the deck in his favor. He trained to be quite a force to be reckoned with. Zul'koa believed that Ja'kari had the potential to become a Shadow Hunter, and perhaps don the title of Zul' himself.

But this was yet not to be. Ja'kari was a young adult when the local murlocs began worshiping the Sea Witch. He fought them alongside his father, and was of fighting age when Thrall's forces came through the Darkspear Island. Dedicated without doubt to his tribe, he followed the orders of Vol'jin, following Thrall's forces. He began fighting in the Third War as a witch doctor and, on occasion, as a melee combatant. However, his talents as a warrior were soon recognized, and before long his assignments were almost exclusively to the front line. Enemies he killed were scarcely left without mutilation; Ja'kari was known to sometimes drag corpses along with him for later cannibalism or other similar measures. Only two of his foes managed to make it to the afterlife.

Once the Third War ended, cannibalism was outlawed in the Horde. Many Darkspears continued their practices in secret, but exercising subtlety and restraint in his religious practices could mean a select number of spirits could escape to aid his enemies. Rather than risk this, Ja'kari resigned from the Horde's military. He felt no guilt in this; his tribe was secure. The New Horde's objectives were not his own, and had little to do with his tribe. Any further participation in the Horde's military ambitions would be service to the Horde, not the Darkspear.

Ja'kari lived, briefly, a life of peace in Durotar. His blood craved combat and chaos, but he had no wish life a life on the fringe of the Horde as well as his own people, for he know that if the Horde rejected him, his tribe would be forced to send him into exile. In point of fact, the same had recently happened to his father, who had remained in service to the Horde; on his first mission, he ate the men he killed and was exiled promptly on Horde orders. Zul'koa became Zul'koa'fon, and narrowly escaped execution - he vanished one night from his chains. To this day, no one knows where he is.

Yet Ja'kari was not destined for a life of peace. One day while enjoying a drink in Razor Hill's inn, he got into a heated discussion with a local orc. They had words, and the orc, feeling his honor had been violated, attacked him. Ja'kari slew him in front of several witnesses (both orcs and trolls). This in itself was of no issue; it was clear who attacked first. Yet Ja'kari was faced with the very issue he fled from: could he now let the spirit of the orc join with the evil spirits beyond, or would he choose to retain his status in the Horde, knowing full well his decision could lead to endless torture?

With awe, passers-by and witnesses alike watched as he devoured his enemy right there.

Suddenly chaos broke out. The orcs tried to stop him; the trolls tried to protect him; the guards tried to qualm the madness. Somehow in the chaos Ja'kari escaped, hiding in the wilderness of Durotar until nightfall. He then returned to his village and was informed that his fears had been realized: he had been exiled from the Horde, and the powers that be had called for him to be exiled from the Darkspear tribe.

Ja'kari became Ja'kari'fon that day, but no Darkspear who knows the reason why will call him an exile. To the Darkspear, he is still family - perhaps moreso now than ever before. Now Ja'kari wanders, honing his abilities, preparing still for the war of the afterlife. As few outside of Durotar know of his crime and exile, he utilizes Horde settlements and camps. He is even known to sneak into Orgrimmar and Sen'jin village from time to time, utilizing his ghost wolf form or a disguise to cover his body paint. He still worships the Loa and still practices voodoo. He calls Stranglethorn Vale his home, and returns to it frequently, but his heart is with the Darkspear, and hopes they will one day reclaim their ancestral home, withdrawing from the Horde to independence.
