Jacques dresses in a dirty loose white shirt and a pair of black pants with button's on the sides of the legs. Topping off his garb is a black bandanna wrapped around his head and a pair of boots smeared with the remnants of Stranglethorn vegetation.

Personality

One might describe Jacques as a risk taker. He is always ready to strike a deal or make a bet, even at the cost of money he does not have. A debtor, therefore, by his very nature.

Standing at a humble three foot two inches, this gnome suffers from a rare case of Hubris. Having developed the strange impression that he can take on anyone at anytime he has a very large ego. Regarding most others as inferior or foolish, this gnome may come off as a royal prick for he is not at all shy about pointing out the flaws and supposed "Idiocy" of anyone or anything. However, his big talk is indeed backed up by the quick and deft use of a blade. Exactly where this gnome learned his swordsmanship is a mystery (Since he changes the story every time he tells it), however his marvelous foot work and daring thrust speak volumes of the talent of his master. For all his skill and panache Jacques is still undermined by his size. The finer points of fencing elude him due to his stature and he just won't ever handle a sword as well as a trained human could.

Despite his flaws Jacques is a sociable and open gnome and will often search out someone to talk with or bother. If none are present he will scavenge the area for cigars to smoke, his timeless vice.

History

Many gnomes fought bravely for Gnomeregan. Jacques was not one of those heroes. Though he was born in the glorious techno-city Jacques and family would move to the halls of Ironforge, and then to the docks of Booty Bay before the trogg threat escalated.

Influenced in his youth by the wonders of the goblin port-city, Jacques aspired to be a tinker, or inventor in his childhood. He wished to master the world around him through the art of technology and science. But that fleeting dream of youth quickly disappeared and was replaced by the harder aspects of Booty Bay life. Time would see Jacques try his hand at engineering, and indeed he would take to it as well as the average gnome should, however paying for his intellectual pursuits would lead the Gnome into debt with the Cartel. Unable to rid himself of his money problems the teenage Jacques was pressed into servitude. It took six long years for the young rogue to work off his indenture and upon finally earning his freedom the boy would have grown into adulthood.

For the past half of a decade the gnome had only known Cartel life, be it at the end of a masters whip, and so to the cartel he would return. An agent of industry under the influence of the cartel, the business gnome peddled iron from Gadgetzan in the Booty Bay and would travel between those two cartel outposts for much of his life.

Eventually in Gadgetzan he would pick up the blade and under the tutelage of gladiators he would master it.

The gnome would never actually speak to a Gladiator or arena combatant, but during his stay in Tanaris he would see an awful lot of them. Like many of the other desert dwellers he would become hooked on the blood inside Gadgetzan's infamous “Cage” and through a regular attendance of the matches he would pick up a thing or two about fighting. Inspired by the gore he would research the swordsman's art and become proficient with a blade through books, heavy practice, and the visual stimulation and inspiration brought on by the “Cage”.

Eventually, through his attendance of the matches he would pick up betting. Unfortunately the practice of gambling would lead the gnome into a large debt, for the second time in his life. Fleeing the desert to escape the wrath of collectors Jacques would arrive in Booty Bay of Stranglethorn, only to be followed by enforcers sent to collect his dues.

Refusing to be subject to slavery again the gnome headed into the jungle where he would stumble upon a ship, La Calypso. After signing up with the pirates on board and setting out to sea he has escaped the clutches of debt for now and will throw his lot in with the swashbuckling crew.
