Personality

Gwenthil is fascinated by intrigue and rarely allows anything to stand in between her and something she finds to be interesting, most of her days are spent researching and studying. She is socially awkward and has a great distrust towards almost everyone she meets. This distrust has given her a tendency of purposely provoking or mocking those she encounters in order to keep them at a distance. Despite this, however, she subconsciously longs for company and true friendship; a desire that often leads her to make contact with complete strangers in a futile attempt to settle her longing. She considers herself to be a free-spirit and allows no one to rule over her; she will often do the exact opposite of what she is told or suggested to do out of spite, very much like a young child. She is secretive when it comes to her past and her true feelings and is known to either offer very obvious lies or completely ignore it if confronted with the topics.

History

Gwenthil is an orphan. Whoever her birth-parents were and what became of them is unknown. Never the less, she was adopted human family and she lived out her childhood in a small town in Lordaeron. Despite her parents' efforts, Gwenthil had a troubled childhood. Since Quel'Thalas had left the Alliance, many humans felt that the elves had betrayed them. Although Gwenthil was only a child, she was the only available target of their resentment. In public most of the adults would generally just ignore her presence, while spreading their prejudice to their children. The children, in turn, were not quite as `subtle´ as their parents and would therefore often bully her. As such, she spent most of her childhood either alone or with her parents.

By the age of 8 it became apparent that she had a certain degree of affinity with magic as most of her kind does. After deciding that it would be best if she could learn to control her magic her parents contacted a friend of the family, a mediocre mage named Jonathan, and made arrangements for her to journey with him to Dalaran. Though her parents were reluctant to let her go, they secretly hoped that she would fit in better among mages and other elves.

However, the mage world can be a treacherous place and due her distrust and social awkwardness which stemmed from early childhood she made only few friends.

When the Plague spread across Lordaeron and the Scourge rose up, the now 17-year-old Gwenthil became concerned for her parents and begged them to seek shelter behind the walls of Lordaeron City where it was safe.

As fate would have it, Lordaeron fell to the Scourge later that year. When the news reached Gwenthil she was struck with guilt and the bitter realization that she had inadvertently caused her parents' demise. This feeling of guilt gradually rendered her unstable, the final push, however, was yet to come.

When the invasion of Quel'Thalas resulted in the severing of the elves' connection to the Sunwell, Gwenthil experienced the terrible loss of something she had never realized she had. The ensuing withdrawal was more than enough to make Gwenthil snap.

Out of a mix of deep frustration and rage she attacked her Jonathan and a fellow student of hers but was stopped by guards before she could do any serious harm. She was declared to be a danger to both herself and her surroundings, though her penalty was of a very mild considering her actions; she was to be confined to her quarters with the interior being warded against magic, just as a precaution.

When the Scourge invaded Dalaran, Jonathan, fearing the worst, freed Gwenthil from her imprisonment and helped her escape the city. Though Jonathan owed his allegiance to Dalaran his sense of duty towards Gwenthil was greater, having sworn to her parents that he would watch over her when she had left for Dalaran.

The two travelled together without any clear destination, with Jonathan supporting Gwenthil, who was still suffering from guilt and withdrawal. However, Gwenthil loathed being in such a pathetic state and could not help but feel unworthy of his loyalty and his kindness. The result of this was that Gwenthil proceeded to push him further and further away.

During their travels Jonathan would occasionally suggest that they should return to civilization; a suggestion that was never agreed upon by Gwenthil, who in her current state wanted to stay as far away from others as possible. However, being mages, their survival and hunting skills were very limited. As such, Jonathan would occasionally be forced to seek out civilization to acquire food or other necessities. However, this was done without Gwenthil's company.

One day during such a visit to a human town, rumours of the elves having reclaimed reached Jonathan's ears. He then reasoned that if anyone knew how to cure Gwenthil's condition it would be her own kind.

Upon reaching the border of Everson Woods Gwenthil and Jonathan, who had decided to return to whatever of Dalaran, parted ways, with Gwenthil not having the guts to look back.

However, since Gwenthil had grown up among humans she had never actually been to Eversong before and eventually got lost. Fortunately, after a few days in the woods she was discovered by other elves who reluctantly agreed to escort her to Silvermoon.

In Silvermoon, a now 22-year-old Gwenthil would join her kind in their consumption fel and continue on her studies and research into magics that would have been frowned upon, if not outlawed, in Dalaran and occasionally attempt to discover a more viable solution to her own addiction with no success.

Skills and Abilities

Fencing, some rune related magic, fire and shadow magic. Generally speaking, Gwenthil is somewhat of a jack-of-all-trades as far as magic goes; she studies that which she finds interesting or useful, as such her skill with any type of magic depends on how much it interests her, however, as a consequence of this, she does not truly master any type of magic.
