Appearance

Gregoriel has money to throw around and it shows, buying himself new robes whenever he finds one that he fancies or whenever a design pops up in his head. He considered learning to actually make the robes himself, but he justifies not learning how to tailor by claiming he’s supporting the Silvermoon economy. In contrast, whenever Gregoriel finds a pair of shoes or slippers, he will wear them every day, no matter what, until they cannot be repaired. People are more likely to look at his robes than his shoes, after all.

Gregoriel spent plenty of time outside in the city on walks, giving himself a nice tan. He has a very youthful face, which is a blessing or a curse depending on if Gregoriel is somewhere private. Gregoriel is ashamed of it privately, and ashamed of his incapability for growing facial hair, as he judges maturity based on the heroes in the books he read, where they had beards, damsels to save, and witty one-liners. Gregoriel has none of that. Thankfully, the heroes also had strong jawlines and cleft chins, and genetics saved Gregoriel there.

Personality

Gregoriel keeps a public front for the newcomers and the commoners of Silvermoon City, appearing as just a smiling priest from House Sunfire, ready to help any with healing necessary. Those that get to know Gregoriel gets to see a different side to the noble. Like most elves, he is absolutely certain of the superiority of his race, thinking the Sin’dorei above all, and making his wishes known to his family about Silvermoon being independent from the Alliance and Horde, just to get the Horde’s smell and rot (in case of the Forsaken) out of Silvermoon. Pride in the Sin’dorei comes with pride in Silvermoon, and he reflects that in his robes, which tend to mostly be red, save for one set, which was given to him by a bishop when he was training as a priest. His pride does not come with hate, however. He is still a priest, he still remembers the virtues, and he will still do what he can to help another if they are in need, no matter if they are elf or orc, troll or human.

He’s also a bit sexist. While he will not go up to a woman, slap her, and tell her to go make him a sandwich, he has no respect for any woman that puts on plate armor nor one that insists on fighting in the front lines. A woman, according to Gregoriel, is the physical inferior to a man, and any that insists on fighting with men just weaken Silvermoon’s armies, and result in more deaths, as men have to do twice the work they would have to do to pick up after a woman. If a woman insists on helping armies, they can cook, they can heal, they can stay in the back as archers or mages, but they should not try to be like men. This might be the reason why he is still not married when his siblings are finding wives.

Despite his pride in Silvermoon, he has no love for the “degenerate” culture that seems to have arisen during Silvermoon’s darker years. This means he does not approve of his sister’s marriage to another woman, nor does he approve of this degenerate sister of his being named heir to the house. This gave him the push needed to try and change his mother’s mind and name him as heir.

History

Gregoriel was born to Reigen Sunfire, becoming her first son and second child. He had a figurative and literal silver spoon in his mouth as he was growing up, enjoying the advantages that came with being a noble’s child, being one of the tallest children once he was five years old (he would lose that advantage as the years passed). He was a social child, talking with servants, the servants’ children, and other noble children when he had the chance, being told to make a good impression on them. When it came to academic pursuits, he did not make as good of an impression. When given books on economics and history of Silvermoon, he instead read cheap novels written by humans about action heroes. The books had the same plot and same formula most of the time, but he loved them anyway. These heroes also had some natural talent, and Gregoriel was certain his talent would pop up in time.

As his younger siblings started to pop up, Gregoriel ran into a bit of a problem. He was certain that he was supposed to love them, as they were family, and that is what family was for, but he also noticed how the newcomers were taking attention away from him, leading to one conclusion. Despite Gregoriel trying to act like he loved his new siblings, he only saw them as competition for attention, and they were winning. This gave him the push he needed to start paying attention to his education, though he still found time for his action stories in-between studies.

By the time Gregoriel was an adult, he ran into a bit of a problem. While he still had studies to continue, and he finally had access to the funds to buy what he wanted (which included a few robes he had been eyeing for months), he was listless. He had no interest in learning to move around in plate armor, and he did not want to bother with magic like his mother. If his younger siblings were not around, he wouldn’t care, but he needed something for his public image. That is when he accidentally bumped into a bishop in Silvermoon while on another shopping trip for himself. The two didn’t become friends, but they would talk when they ran into each other, have lunch of occasion, and discuss the happenings of their respective roles in their society. Gregoriel still had no idea what to do, but when he saw the bishop heal a sickly elf in need of aid, he saw the perfect figurehead of House Sunfire. Everyone respects priest, or so Gregoriel told himself. Gregoriel went off to join the Church, thinking it would be an easy affair.

Gregoriel felt he had no knack for priesthood after two weeks, judging himself by the abilities of those were there longer and those who had started around the same time he did. He treated it as he treated the studies he was required to do as a child, and lacked any care that his fellow acolytes possessed. As they moved on to learn more, Gregoriel was left behind with just a levitation spell in his head, which he used to float around his room rather than read or meditate, as the bishop suggested. As he was ready to walk out and just live off House Sunfire funds, the bishop asked him why Gregoriel wanted to be a priest. Telling the truth didn't matter to Greg, so he was open about his reasons, about wanting control of the House and to make sure his siblings didn't get it, and so needing to look a proper figurehead. With that, Gregoriel left, only to run into the bishop weeks later, who offered to help him become a priest if he still wanted to do so. Gregoriel didn't know why he accepted, but he did.

Studies continued as normal, though there were frequent “field trips” across Quel'thalas and Lordaeron, mostly to clinics and anywhere else where there were sick, injured, or just spiritually weakened. At first, Gregoriel just followed along and did what was required of him during these trips, but for each new visit or revisit the bishop took him on, Gregoriel felt like a creature from a child's book, feeling his heart grow in size. Soon it turned from a chore to a desire to help those who the bishop took Gregoriel to visit (the bishop also took to call Gregoriel “Gregg”, though Gregoriel insists the name sounds more proper for a drunk human). As he felt the need to help the people, his studies started to show results. He was still a slow learner, but over time, it turned from Gregoriel watching, to Gregoriel helping, to Gregoriel doing the work as the bishop watched.

His time studying as a priest brought a few other changes, some good and others not so good. He grew a love for his still-growing family. While he still wanted control over the House, and he still had to view them as competition, he saw his siblings as family, rather than just attention-stealers (which they still kinda were). He also grew a distaste for certain aspect of culture, both in Silvermoon and outside of it, like excessive drinking and just sleeping around in general. His negative views were held by the bishop as well, so Gregoriel at least found a companion in his dislike for certain things. The man Gregoriel would only talk to on occasions grew to be one of Gregoriel's closest friends, and when it came time for Gregoriel to officially bear the title of “Priest”, the bishop had a white robe made for him. Luckily, it was not a required uniform, and after a day of wearing his new robes, he returned home and put on some of his more expensive ones.

The First War was ignored by Gregoriel, as it was by most in Silvermoon. Not near them, not their problem. Unfortunately, Stormwind had to be sacked and the orc problem would have to become a Silvermoon problem. Gregoriel favored a large army from Silvermoon so that the orc threat can be defeated before the year was up. He did not see much combat, but he was responsible for plenty of healing after the battles were up. It was the Second War that helped “complete” his sexist thoughts, seeing it as a confirmation of all that he was thinking up until that time, but had no proof to show for it. To sum it up, women were not warriors. Any army with women in it (on the front lines) purposely weakens themselves. The number of women he had to heal, the number of scouting parties with women in it that he had to patch up, and the success of the orcs, a force that appeared to have all men (not like Gregoriel could tell the difference between a man or woman orc), was slowly crushing the Alliance. Oddly enough, the Alliance soon became victorious, but Gregoriel did not consider this as his beliefs being invalidated.

Quel'thalas left the Alliance shortly after the conclusion of the Second War, a decision Gregoriel agreed with. The orcs were humanity's mess, just like the forest trolls were the elves' problem. Let the humans deal with the orcs. He still, however, visited Lordaeron from time to time for his duties, as his training had shattered his laziness and he felt like a prisoner if he stayed at home for too long. He even visited the Internment Camps to heal orcs. They deserved their punishment, Gregoriel thought, but his duties to the Light required him to help these orcs, even if they were one bad day from trying to break out of the Internment Camps. The bishop and Gregoriel kept in touch through letters, the bishop training the next generation of priests while Gregoriel traveled Lordaeron.

Quel'thalas was not as lucky during the Third War. As the story goes, the Scourge swept through the kingdom, led by former Prince Arthas, and the Sunwell was corrupted. Gregoriel stayed around his family for the war, trying to help defend Sunfire lands with healing and smiting, but it wasn't enough. Gregoriel would try to use levitation to get some wounded soldiers to safety, but in the end, the Sunwell was ruined.

The ruining of the Sunwell came with a realization of how dependent the elves were on it, many elves fell sick due to magic withdrawal, even those who rarely used magic. Gregoriel tried to simply meditate, read a book, tend to the sick, anything to not think about how dependent and weak he was on the Sunwell. Some members of his family left with Prince Kael'thas to the orc's homeworld, and some elves came back with the “cure” to their afflication. Learning how to drain magic, and with his mother setting up fel crystal around the estate, which Gregoriel took part in draining to regain his strength. He would do it frequently until he remembered the Dalaran theory of the orc's lethargy, and their dependence on fel. Fel also brought with it some undesirable aspects to Silvermoon culture. He started to only rarely take part in draining fel, not wanting to be like the orcs or the other degenerate elves.

Time flew by, and the now Sin'dorei attempted to join the Horde, something Gregoriel spoke out against after his mother's support for joining. Orcs burned their lands, humans betrayed them, so why give orcs another chance to destroy them? Undead being allowed in Quel'thalas was even worse, due to them being a bad day away from being Scourge (and Gregoriel holding little respect for the Windrunner name after the “betrayal” of Sylvanas' other sisters). Gregoriel's rantings about potential Horde betrayal ceased once his mother was presumed deceased, and her children were left with a weakened House.

There were many hungry nobles that tried to snatch up House Sunfire's lands from the weak and disorganized children. Gregoriel tried to do what he could, to prove that he was worthy of being declared heir but, like many of his other siblings, he just had no idea where to begin. Too many problems, no idea of what solutions were in sight. Many times Gregoriel disappeared into his room and tried to silence the outside world, which made him feel terrible when he reemerged and saw that he just dropped more work on his siblings. One of the rival houses even tried to force Gregoriel (and others in the House) to marry into the new family. Gregoriel was going to give up there due to too much pressure, and the woman they were forcing Gregoriel to marry at least being pretty enough, but was saved by the timely arrival of Reigen. He never had to bother with his almost-wife again.

With Reigen leading the House again, Gregoriel decided it was time to get studying once more. If he was going to head the House, he needed to prove he could handle the pressure, and Reigen's disappearance only showed that he was a coward that would run away from problems. He also used some time to mingle among the other Horde races. He still didn't like them, but he could tolerate them so long as they did not bring their sad excuse of a culture to Silvermoon.

With the Cataclysm, he left home in order to help those in need, even if they were filthy Horde or dirty Alliance. The Light does not judge (unless you're a rotbag). He made the return trip home after hearing of his sister's marriage to another woman, and her being named heir. Azeroth can wait, he needs to save House Sunfire.

Skills and Abilities

  • Light up the night: Besides focus on some minor Shadow magic to help soothe minds and see as the enemy does, Gregoriel is focused entirely on the Light, mostly the Discipline path.
  • Do I look like a doctor?: Priests and doctors are not the same thing, and Gregoriel never bothered to study which organ is what. Unless you want him to mistake a lung for a kidney, don’t ask him to be a doctor.
  • Noble: Also called “lods of emone”, Gregoriel doesn’t have to worry about having money to buy what he wants.
