Appearance

Usual Garments/Armour: Elaborate robes most of the time, typically self fashioned. Those robes are usually designed either for social use, or for enchanting. While elaborate though, her robes are more typical of lower upper class people rather than true nobility.

Other: Emma has a tendency to constantly groom herself. Typically when nervous she bites her lip and pulls on hair.

As with most upper middle-class people, she enjoys fine arts and dresses; she also collects wands. Her major interest remains researching magic, and enchantment.

Skills and Abilities

Emma isn't so much of a fighter, but has enough grasp on magic (and enough training in using wands) to defend herself if necessary, mostly using arcane magic. She is far more interested by - and talented in - the theoretical sciences of magic, and enchantments.

Enchanting Wizard: Emma is more interested by - and talented in - the theoretical sciences of magic, and enchantments.

Arcane Burn: Emma does not like using elemental magic.

By the Wand: Emma uses wands, and dislikes staves or free-form casting.

Personality

Emma is a person driven by her need to understand, seek, and discover. She devotes most of her time to greater understanding of the innate workings of magic, and of the fine arts of Enchanting. She is an idealistic, hopeful and industrious wizard, who often keeps focused on her goals. Most people would find her agreeable, modest, maybe nurturing even – though she does tend to become arrogant by times, and enjoys a bit of showing off, but never to the point of stealing the spotlight – that would make her too nervous.

She enjoys social events, but at the same time, is shy, reserved and maybe slightly insecure. She is a closed person, but not evasive; withdrawn, but honest; she does enjoy sharing her discoveries however. She has put a lot of work into building up her confidence, which she bolsters through asserting her enchanting and magical skills.

While Emma is generally a hopeful and upbeat person, she also tends to have bouts of anxiety, which she clumsily attempts to repress in her daily life, but which sometimes get to her; she has in fact already missed a few opportunities, out of sheer anxiety at the idea of talking, or being highlighted, recognized, or generally thrust forward.

History

Emma was born in Lordaeron, 35 years ago, to a couple of successful barristers. When still a child, the First War raged in the southern lands of Stormwind, which have left imprints in her memory – refugees, the threat of war, the call of men to battle. Her family, however, was wealthy enough, though not nobility – they had a small house in Lordaeron itself, in which she grew, a lone child, somewhat sheltered from the collapse of the human world.

There is no real way to pinpoint when Emma became so interested in magic, though it may have to do with a friend of the family, a rather esteemed wizard, who took upon herself to teach Emma the basics of magic. She wanted to become a renowned seamstress at that time; By the end of the Second War, however, with the relative return of peace her parents decided to give her a more advanced education, and they were hoping she would become a barrister in turn. Her childhood was happy and rather uneventful, but she kept reading about magic, and became obsessed with it.

By the time she was 19, their wizard friend, having become high-ranked in Dalaran, decided to formally tutor Emma. For a few years, they began unravelling the mysteries of the Arcane. Emma took fondness to old artefacts, wands, and soon enough began learning Enchanting itself. During this time, she seldom kept in touch with her family, other than letters, something she would later regret.

Emma stayed in Dalaran until the cities of Lordaeron began falling to the Scourge, at which point her tutor deemed it unsafe to stay. She sent Emma south, to Stormwind; the latter initially declined but was eventually convinced by her parents, who also decided to leave for Stormwind. A wise choice – it was not long before the complete fall of the kingdom, and the destruction of Dalaran. Emma would never see her tutor again; even today, she still hopes she survived, perhaps even as a Forsaken. The family settled in a Stormwind town-house, by a canal, close to what would become the Mage District. As Stormwind became a centre of Arcane, life carried on, marred by the doleful, harrowing happenings in the North.

Emma decided – or was perhaps persuaded – to carry on her tutor's legacy. She became herself a full-fledged Enchanter, at age 29, and began setting up shop nearby. It proved challenging for her, as her parents were not willing to give her much gold and she did have to work hard to eventually break even; she enchanted wands, pieces of clothing (some she made herself), rings, amulets, and even the occasional weapon or piece of armour. Alongside her craft, which she loved, she kept researching into theoretical magic, and even co-authored a few papers, mostly on ley lines and the arts of sigils.

Emma kept her craft for years. By times she closely associated with some noble House in exchange for exclusive employment, but always returned to her beloved shop. At age 33, both her parents died, and she inherited the Stormwind town-house, where she moved her shop, away from the cramped space in the mage district. A time of sorrow heralding a new era of prosperity, as the demand for enchanting grows up and she keeps learning about magic in a quickly changing world.

As Dalaran resurfaced, and Deathwing brought havoc upon the great City of Stormwind, she finds herself thinking about moving back to Dalaran – and even on journeys as she participates in research expeditions. Her life is quickly changing – and the fine balance between her research and life as a moderately successful Stormwind Enchanter, and her more and more frequent journeys to find rare, enchanted artefacts and understand deeper arcane mysteries becomes quickly compromised...
