Personality

Temporal and impulsive, Elathil isn’t inclined towards making plans and sticking with them, nor is she particularly patient. She is versatile and adaptable, but lacks in reliability as a result. Over the years, she came to realise that it was better not to give her word at all instead of doing so only to later break it. That policy gradually extended to all aspects of communication, and she now speaks infrequently, and on the odd occasion when she does, she attempts to pack as much meaning as possible into laconic utterances. A predilection towards solitude separates her from most of her peers, but there are the choice several whose company she sincerely enjoys. Although terse in the company of strangers, she is boundlessly curious and indulges that curiosity by listening to their tales.

No believer in fate or pre-determined outcomes, Elathil weighs her successes and failures against her own abilities. Very much a ‘fixer’, she is discontent allowing an endeavour to fall to pieces, particularly for reasons she dismisses as sentimental or trivial. She will often over-exert herself to complete a task she has set her mind to, but is also aware of when to give up on a pointless hunt. If the reward isn’t worth the effort, Elathil will seldom proceed.

When it comes to factions, Elathil sees herself as being largely independent. Her first and last allegiance is to her home and her people, and anything beyond that rises no further than a personal scale. With no concept of honour or glory, the outcome of a battle is the most important thing to her. Due to that, she considers Orcs and Trolls worthy opponents in battle, though she would be loath to suffer either races’ company. She does not trust the Forsaken, nor can she be convinced that they are anything but abominations of Nature. Curious about the spiritual facets of Tauren society, she relishes the opportunity to speak with their Shamans and Druids on the rare occasion when she is able to. Elathil finds humankind – on the whole – arrogant, and with no right to be. Night Elves and Draenei she finds intriguing, and of the latter, she queries about the ecology of worlds they have visited. Gnomes and Dwarves are considered with equal wariness and disinterest, save only for the Wildhammer clan. A Gryphon’s back is a place she could certainly get used to.

History

A roaming lifestyle cultivated the young hunter during her childhood. Elathil discovered that her parents and extended family had been travelling for many centuries prior to her birth, and they had ventured as far as the lands of the then-primitive human civilisations as early as the Troll Wars. They carried little, taking nothing more than they needed from the wilds and less still from civilisation, but the few items in their possession were precious and treasured. Most of the band’s belongings consisted of weaponry and necessary tools, and once she was of an age that she could lift one, an ornate hunting bow was gifted to her. Archery lessons accompanied the present, and she seemed to possess a natural talent for the art.

Forging a strong bond with her older sister and tutor, Elathil let Anedra serve as an example in all things. Two hundred years her senior, Anedra Taelonvir was highly skilled as a hunter, pragmatic, intuitive and quick-witted. When she decided to break away from the main family to train under the Farstriders, Elathil joined her, eagerly following in the footsteps of her sister. They both took to the life as birds to the skies, and showed promise in occasional skirmishes against Amani war parties. Anedra’s charisma earned her company and rank, but the younger Taelonvir sister found comfort only with her sibling or alone. With the knowledge and experience to venture further into the wilderness, she assumed a solitary life, and served her people as a distant watcher who defended her home from encroachment using any means necessary. Growing estranged from society, her bond with nature rose to a tangible height.

Charred, blackened land was left behind in the carnage of the Second War, Eversong’s woodland irrevocably devastated. Elathil sprang to her homeland’s defense, and it was with great delight, driven by bitter vengeance, that she descended on the ones responsible. The Amani took many of her fellow Farstriders in their assault, Anedra numbering among the lost. The only news she received was that the party her sibling had belonged to never returned from its patrol. Grief hampered her for a long time. Elathil believed only fortune had saved her, and that her sister would have been more effective against the threat her people faced. She also came to the cathartic realisation that she would never become her sister, and the best way she could honour Anedra’s memory was to live her own life the best she could.

When the Scourge tore a black path through Quel’thalas, Elathil fought them every step of the way. Sheer luck saved her from being overwhelmed, but it was her swiftly-growing skill, sharpened senses and animalistic savagery that allowed her to carve a sizeable gash in the opposing forces. For one lone hunter, it wasn’t nearly enough to stem the titanic tide of risen soldiers, whose numbers were quickly replenished with each successful siege. The Sunwell’s destruction brought about significant changes for the Quel’dorei, who renamed themselves in tribute to the fallen. Elathil drank Fel energy in order to sustain herself during those difficult times, but was careful not to overindulge. She was determined to persevere and overcome the challenges the reborn Sin’dorei had faced and were yet to encounter.

Fortifying her bond with the wilds, Elathil continued to segue farther from civilisation as it rebuilt itself. She carried the memory of her sister close, devoting herself to nature and its defense. No more would war rend her homeland or those she shared it with. She would make certain of that.

Skills and Abilities

Able to evoke nature’s wrath in combat, Elathil evidences her close connection to the wilds in her unrestrained ferocity, animalistic savagery and proclivity towards solitude. Her arrows fly with the sureness of the winds, and she strikes with the certainty and strength of a wolf’s fang when wielding a blade. In hand-to-hand, she is swift and tenacious. With both experience and the blessing of the wilderness in her repertoire, she is a highly capable ranger.

The forests and woodlands serve as her thoroughfares, deep caverns her alleys, and the trees her rooftop solace. Elathil is capable of traversing normally-difficult terrain with ease, and knows her territory well. Finding more peaceful company among animals, she has a deep understanding of feral creatures, their behavioural patterns, and how to pacify them. She often emulates the way beasts hunt and fight, and utilising her devotion to nature, she may call on it to mend the wounds of an injured animal.
