Personality

Alignment: Neutral Good

Drayke, generally, is a rather cheerful and optimistic person. He can also be incredibly stubborn. If he sets out to do something, he’ll try his absolute hardest to do it. He prides himself on the fact that he never gives up hope even in the direst of situations. He will usually give people the benefit of the doubt and treat them respectfully unless they do something to lose that respect. He is incredibly loyal and protective of his friends. He obeys the law, but if someone he cares about is in need he will break it, within reason. He loathes people who prey on or otherwise harm others who cannot defend themselves, especially children. When someone he cares about is in harm’s way, he can be very aggressive, rash, and impulsive.

History

As a child, Drayke lived a simple but happy life as the son of a farmer out in Westfall. On most days, he helped his father sew the fields, tend to the crops, and harvest them once they were fully grown. Though they were poor, his parents gave him the best education they could, and as such he can read and write at a decent level. On his tenth birthday, his mother gave him a wolf hat that she had made as a present, as wolves are Drayke’s favourite animal. He immediately took a liking to it and began wearing it constantly. His father also entrusted the family sword to him and started teaching him how to use a sword in case he ever needed to help defend their family.

For the next few years, his usual daily regimen was to help out in the fields and then to practice his swordsmanship with his father. Though his father was in no way an expert, he knew enough to teach Drayke the basics and allow him to hone his skills. He would also occasionally go out hunting with his father and his friends, which allowed him to develop a little skill with a bow. When he wasn’t doing any of these he was usually out exploring the farm and its surroundings.

When Drayke was twelve, his sister, Morena, was born. He loved her dearly, and helped his mother care for her whenever he was able. Due to spending more time with his mother, Drayke learnt the basics of sewing, for repairing clothes. Once Morena was old enough to walk, Drayke began to take her on his little adventures and explorations. As the months dragged on, the distance he was allowed to stray from the farm became less and less. On one of his adventures, when he was thirteen, Drayke found out why. He and Morena were attacked by a harvest watcher. Drayke was quick to his sister’s defense, and was able to disable the harvest watcher enough for he and Morena to escape, but earned a nasty scratch across his back for his efforts, which has permanently scarred. From that day forward, he was no longer allowed to venture too far away from the farm (Although he occasionally did anyway).

One fateful day, when Drayke was fifteen, he arrived home from one his little explorations just in time to find three bandits arguing with his father, his sister and mother with swords to their throats. They were demanding money and his family couldn’t pay. The bandits, unsatisfied with this answer, killed Drayke’s family and put his home to the torch. Drayke, furious and guilt-stricken, charged the bandits and avenged his family, but suffered several wounds in the process. He hastily buried his family in a shallow grave, left the bandits to rot, mended his wounds to the best of his ability, and set off on the road to Elwynn.

Drayke made his way to Westbrook Garrison, where his wounds were properly taken care of by the guards stationed there. The guards told him to seek refuge in Stormwind, though he was allowed to stay for a few days. When he reached Stormwind, he set into a new routine of begging during the day and sleeping in alleyways and secluded corners at night. After a few months, he was approached by a gang of youths, some around his age, and others both younger and older.

He was offered a place to rest his head at night and a way to reliably make money for food. He agreed, and he was taken to a derelict, abandoned building in Old Town. He was told that this was his new home, provided he helped the gang and protected them if need be. After spending a few nights there, he used some scrap wood and cloth to create himself a crude training dummy for himself to practice his swordsmanship, replacing it whenever it became too damaged for further use. During his time with the gang, he also learnt how to properly fix minor wounds and splint broken bones.

He quickly befriended two of the other members, the twins Alexei and Alicia. While Alexei was more or less normal, Alicia had fledgling magical ability. They also both had an almost worrying fascination with fire. Drayke and Alexei would spend their free time practicing their swordsmanship with each other, while Alicia usually had her face buried in some kind of book.

Drayke began helping the gang earn money by picking pockets and stealing loose items off of carts like the rest of the gang’s members. Though they did not earn nearly enough to move out of the slums, they earned enough so that they didn’t starve. Two years after he had befriended them, both Alexei and Alicia left Stormwind to pursue other goals in life. Alexei was to become a paladin while Alicia was going to study magic.

When he was nineteen, while on a stroll through Old Town, Drayke came across an old man being mugged by two thugs. Drayke stepped in and scared the thugs off, and the man, who introduced himself as Harold, thanked him. He offered a monetary reward, though Drayke refused. Harold then offered to teach Drayke how to play an instrument, and Drayke accepted.

Drayke began to spend less time helping the gang pilfer, thieve and steal, as he was spending more time practicing and developing his talents with the lute. Eventually, however, when Drayke was twenty two, Harold grew sick and died. Drayke did not go back to helping the gang with their thievery, but rather started making money more honestly by busking. He continued to grow more and more distant with his friends in the gang, though he grew close with a girl named Tiva.

He eventually confided in her that he was considering leaving Stormwind to make a living as a travelling bard. Tiva was perfectly content to stay in Stormwind as part of the gang. By the time Drayke was twenty four, the gang had grown bolder, and began to make money through muggings and extortion along with petty thievery.

Drayke had decided that he could no longer stay with the gang, as they were on the path to becoming just like the bandits who murdered his family. He tried to convince Tiva to accompany him, but she had resigned herself to stay. For the second time, Drayke set out into the world on his own.

Until the Cataclysm, Drayke made a living by playing in pubs and taverns and by busking. He drifted from town to town, staying in whatever inns he could afford, and sleeping on the streets if he was short of money. After Deathwing’s arrival, he decided he would make more of himself than a simple wandering bard.
