Daniel Allister has always been a calculating man. A gifted intellectual and competent Mage, he believes that most problems can be solved with the right application of force and ingenuity. Because if this, he is unafraid of many things, believing instead that he can overcome most challenges and become better for having done so. However, Daniel is afraid of death. Having seen the destruction of Dalaran firsthand, Daniel fears his own mortality so much that he strives to prevent death in any way he can. Contingencies upon contingencies, Daniel's perfectionist habits, and his necromantic studies all culminate in one goal: to live forever, no matter the cost.

History

Daniel's early life was one shared by many young boys of his era. Growing up in the wake of the wars with the Orcs of Draenor, Daniel and his family made do with what they could, though being citizens of Dalaran made that life quite pleasant at times. Daniel's father, a printer and bookbinder, made enough money to live comfortably with his family in the inner city and, when his son began to show the spark of uncommon intelligence, he wasted no time in enrolling Daniel in the Dalaran School of magic when he came of age at 16. Magic and ancient lore fascinated Daniel, and he would go on to dedicate the next twelve years of his life to study at the university.

In his twenty-eighth winter, Daniel witnessed Dalaran's fall. Already excelling in the manipulation of Frost and the finer magics, Daniel had graduated from the Dalaran Academy and become the Mage that he had dreamed about as a child. As an able-bodied magic-user, Daniel was drafted into the defense of the city when the Undead Scourge arrived. While his command of Frost and pure Arcane helped his makeshift unit of magi and guardsmen hold their own in the early hours of the invasion, they were separated one by one as some were felled by arrows and spells, and others were killed holding back what seemed like an unending tide of dead.

When that day ended, Daniel had seen seven men die, some who screamed for mercy and some who cried as they yelled their last curses into the cacophony of battle. He spent the night alone in a building with the locks frozen shut, dreaming of grasping maws and the metallic tang of blood.

Since that day, Daniel has had a great fear of death. His normally studious manner was transformed into an almost obsessive control of minutiae in his life, searching for the answer that would save him from death itself. Having studied many forms of magic, Daniel saw an escape from death that he could achieve in the practice of Necromancy, the same magic that had brought the dead into unlife in Lordaeron.

As of the present, Daniel has studied the arts of Necromancy in found, bought, and sometimes stolen, tomes hoping one day to find that one thing he desires: eternal life.
