– Caediath, Deference to Darkness

Player: Caediath

Character Full Name: Caediath Encarmine Auriel Character In-Game Name: Caediath

Nickname(s): "Caediath, the Ebon Guard"

Association(s): Ebon Blade, though loosely, even with his Brothers-In-Death he still has a bit of Elven arrogance leading him to presume he is simply better. He used to be a member of the Argent Dawn for a short while, and later became a Blood Knight when his thirst for vengeance against the Alliance turned him bitter. Unsurprisingly, he has a special hatred for the Burning Legion and the Naga for getting his kin attached to Fel Magicks and ironically forsook his Blood Elven kin seeing them as dying members of a dying race. Above all others, he hates the Scourge and seeks to aid the forces trying to destroy them. Caediath is without prejudice: he'd kill anybody in a heartbeat.

Appearance

Caediath has no real desire to sleep or rest despite having a metabolism and thus needing sleep and only eats out of necessity. Temperature makes no difference to him, nor does weight, he simply wears his armor at all times.

Personality

"Is this what it means to be good...? To be right? For you to come here, unannounced, like so many you despise... To disrupt the natural order of things... We would have made our own choices, given time, Brother. Some walked away to become new men. Others stayed below and sunk ever deeper into depravity. Some, like me, wield evil against evil. You judge me as evil... Good... Evil... Who are you to make the choice, you sanctimonious child? You're a murderer, a murderer and a monster, just like me" - Caediath, on Good and Evil

Caediath once wanted little more than to serve the Argent Dawn, he was pious, adaptable, and a flexible thinker. Mentally, he was brilliant, but in terms of thought processes and compassion, he did suffer from a sensory problem that caused him to take in everything from his surroundings and caused a stimulus overload. This led to artistic genius but social awkwardness since he was too in tune with the people around him. Caediath was also known for being vehement, able to weather blows that should have felled him and getting back up several times simply because his willpower was almost limitless. Unfortunately, he went absolutely insane with the death of his wife.

Despite death, he's still at least able to have some sort of compassion, mercy and sympathy. Like his living self, he acknowledges his weaknesses and unfortunately because of his current state and perceived failure to defeat the Lich King's hold, he has no real sense of what he used to be out of confusion for what he was rather than what remains. Like most Death Knights, he simply desires revenge, but unlike most Death Knights, he is not content on waiting for his comrades to do so, he simply wants to slaughter the Scourge wherever they dwell. Revenge fuels him like Fel Magic fueled Kael'thas and unfortunately for him, because of his obsession, he's lost sight of what he was completely.

Of course, he suffers from the Hunger. For this, he tends to kill off animals and pretty much anything he can get his hands on in order to prevent a self-defeating blood frenzy where he simply culls without any emotion until his needs are sated. When he succumbs to the Hunger, he becomes almost animalistic, relying on instinct. Fortunately, this is very rare, for he exercises enough restraint to ensure he kills regularly enough and prioritizes people who deserve to die above innocents before succumbing. Like the Forsaken, while Hungering, he cannibalizes, but unlike the Forsaken it's more of a bloodlust than means for sustenance.

History

Caediath is the oldest Auriel child and the overachiever. He trained for an extended period as a Quel'thalas Spellbreaker, excelling in the use of the Spellbreaker Sunglaive, but wasn't impressed with his own personal ability to sap magic, viewing it as poorly done. Eventually, he became a Paladin, realizing he was better at creation than destruction with his gifts. Within ten years, he was a full-fledged Paladin of the Argent Dawn operating in the Stratholme region. There, he met the love of his life, Aviras Frostdancer, a priestess of the Dawn. The two became close friends and were eventually wed. Then, the Scourge attacked. Amidst the chaos in Stratholme, Caediath lost track of Avira, but found out she was going to Quel'thalas to assist in the defense. Caediath left soon after to find his wife.

On his charger, Oblige, he went to Quel'thalas to go protect his family from the impending Scourge invasion, but the woods seemed to work against him. He hadn't been home in so long that he actually forgot his way and was waylaid by bandits. Weeks later, he found himself over at the ruins of Quel'thalas, the Sunwell corrupted. He was weak, there were corpses everywhere, and everything was burning, the skies were dark from the smoke coming from wreathes of flaming ash that used to make up the Eversong, a scar of death where the Scourge had marched. For hours, he looked around to realize how lacking the Alliance reinforcements were. Cursing them, he looked for Aviras, later, finding her mangled among the wreckage, she somehow held on. But for nothing, he could do nothing. He was forced to kill her out of mercy after a final kiss farewell.

With no known means to obtain magic, as the Sunwell was all he knew Caediath dragged himself away from the carnage and headed to the nearest Argent Dawn base in Stratholme, only to see members of the Silver Hand there for some inexplicable reason. He watched them cull Paladins like sheep and dragged his wounded self away. Somewhere en route he was incapacitated by a panic attack brought on by the lack of mana siphoning, remembering that he could not simply head north every so often to draw from the Sunwell, he had to siphon on his own now. He was eventually nursed back to a decent state of health by an Alliance Caravan heading to Dalaran.

Things fell apart after a brief stay, and the High Elves were condemned to death. Caediath was broken out of prison and worked with the Sunstrider Strike Force to get out of Dalaran, stuck in the Outland with his kindred. He did battle against the Burning Legion with the Strike Force and began to allow his passion to turn to outright psychotic rage-a blazing sword aimed at those who defied his Prince, now sworn to Illidan. After a long while of fighting, leaving once the Black Temple was assaulted when he realized he was suddenly powerless, he returned to Azeroth, and to Quel'thalas. When the Naaru was bound and enslaved, he joined the Order of the Blood Knights in order to regain his lost power, now going mad with hatred for the Alliance that forsook his homeland.

He worked for a long while in the Blood Knights, joining with a childhood friend, Annastrianna in order to take revenge on the Scourge. His idea was to wait for them to attack New Avalon and slip in to assassinate the Lich King, and took his younger brother for the trip. While on the way there, the trio faced many hardships, but every passing day made it all the more tolerable knowing his wife would be avenged. Eventually, he parted ways with his younger brother enlightened by what he used to know. With a final, touching farewell to his brother, they parted ways. After another week of travel, Annastrianna and he were attacked by a Death Knight. Annastrianna was brutally mauled by the Death Knight's ghoul, which Caediath put down with such hatred that it could have only been the evils emerging from him that made it possible, destroying his sword in the process. There was a silence for a moment when everthing slowed, only to realize a searing pain in his midrift... there was a Runeblade stuck in him... and that meant it was a Runeblade within arm's reach, and with that moment, he used the last of his strength to rip the weapon from him and run the Death Knight through, the blade that was going to kill him, ironically could have saved his life had he not ripped it from himself for such spite.

His dark awakening took place just after he began to slowly die. Hatred was all he could carry and he had nothing to show for it. Everything was lost.

When we awoke from the cold clutches of death, his eyes had gained another color the blue of undeath, his skin since going pale and his hair white, he was introduced to his new Patron, Koltira, and then sent to his new god, the Lich King. When the time came for him to meet old acquaintances, he was given the prize of his parents who were captured and brought to him. He tortured his mother until his father stepped in to take his dueling blade to kill his mad son, when he swung, Caediath deflected the attack against his bracer and into the throat of his own mother, and then savagely beat his father to death 'for killing dear mummy.' Of course, when he returned to Acherus with two heads gleefully skipping while covered in blood. Caediath was too late for the culling of the Scarlet Crusade's base camp, however and missed out on the thrill of battle, but no matter, as prolonging his father's death to a personal record of seventeen minutes was reward enough. He was then ordered to accompany High Lord Morgraine's forces in the culling of the Argent Dawn, which left him joyous.

Old friends were killed at Light's Hope Chapel. There was no hope. The earth was scarred and Caediath laughed maniacally as his armor was splattered with the blood of his old comrades. But something happened. He... blinked. He blinked and saw the ghost of his wife, and she just shook his head and left him. The other Death Knights were in disarray-what was happening? He collapsed, only to be awoken later. But it was he who awoken... not that... animal. Nevertheless redemption seemed impossible, he was now a free storm of dark energy ready to lay waste to all in his path, would he turn that darkness to light, or would he be consumed as the eternal twilight bathes the planet and kills everything he once fought for and fights for again?
