Personality

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Balshar is secular, stoic, and studious, with his mind first and foremost on the development and advancement of magical studies and the improvement of his people's ways of life. Distant from the religious ways his household raised him in, Balshar looks to math and science for the answers of life's questions, though he is by no means disrespectful to followers of a faith. He maintains himself with an upright, noble poise, always well kept, always well groomed, always presentable to whomever he meets. The Sin'dorei are a proud people with a proud heritage, and he is no one to betray that image any time soon.

History

Balshar Eranu'belore was born the third son of his powerful family, and the first full brother to Ralerian. Raised from birth to strict and upright standards, the young Balshar was always one for obidience, rule following, and order. While most everyone else in the household had a religious respect for either the Light or the Sunwell, Balshar had no interest in such metaphysical things, instead turning his studies completely to the arcane and its limitless potential as a science. From birth he was bred for perfection in everything he applied himself in, and the young elf did not dissapoint. He was studious, hard working, and intelligent.

As a young man, Balshar could already see the cracks forming in his family, and was pertinent to remove himself as much as possible from any sort of drama. His middle brother, Aendron, ran away from home after being emotionally abused by their father, so Balshar was savvy to not open his heart to the man himself despite looking up to him regularly for education and wisdom. Fortunately, Balshar's hard work ethic gained significant favoritism from the old man, and so he essentially had free range around the house hold if he so wanted. While his mother was warm and nurturing, the young adult mage always felt closest with eldest brother Ralerian, who used his cunning and favoritism to manipulate their father's ways to ensure general happiness in the household.

As he matured, Balshar set out from Quel'thalas to study his art more seriously in Dalaran. For many centuries he buried himself in work and study, rarely visiting his family or participating in any sort of recreational activity. He stayed in touch only by letters, though he has kept and preserved every one as keepsakes. As the centuries passed, the world largely flew by Balshar, with him not caring or noticing the changing times of humans or anyone else. That all changed when the Scourge came.

Being in Dalaran had its benefits. For one, Balshar was spared the anihilation of his homeland, though for some time he surely assumed his entire family was killed. Secondly, while the righteous Sun King, Anasterian, was slain by the undead, the prince Kael'Thas was part of the Kirin Tor council, and thus survived as well. Issuing a call to arms for the survivors and calling themselves the Blood Elves, Balshar willingly and excitingly dedicated himself to the destruction of the Scourge and their demon masters. It was serving under Kael'thas's forces that he began to use the forbidden and dark knowledge he had learned in his centuries of study, slowly turning from the path of arcanist to a fire-flinging warlock.

The time would come, though, for the Alliance to betray his people. Balshar was like many others locked away in the dungeons of Dalaran, where he met his first real friend in centuries: the doctor Lovar'thil Dire'belore. When they escaped, Balshar stayed close to the surgeon to ensure his safety and with good reason: the Blood Elves were escaping to Draenor. This broken and ugly world was a true testing ground for Balshar's mettle, and when the Betrayer, Illidan, showed the Blood Elves the ways of demonic energy for power he accepted it readily, becoming a Blood Mage who empowers himself with the souls of demons. There was no going back now, Balshar's future that laid before him was one of fire and blood.

Balshar stayed furiuosly loyal to Kael'thas, but as the years in Outland went by he began to question his Prince's motives. The destruction of Kirin'Var village, the conflict with the Draenei... what as the purpose to this in saving his people's future? His commander, Voren'thal the Seer, was far ahead of him in the prospect. When ordered to march on the city of Shattrath and destroy those who lived there, he instead bent his knee to the Naaru A'dal and swore fealty, claiming this was the new path of salvation for the Blood Elves. Balshar followed suit with the rest of the newly formed Scryers, and dedicated his firey powers to battling the Legion, and if need be, his former Prince as well.

As the years passed and the war in Outland came to a close, Balshar remained in Shattrath for a short while after. However, word of his brothers surviving the Scourge reached him, and he applied to an emissary position among the Scryers so that he may travel freely to Quel'thalas and reunite with them, as well as spend time among his old homeland for the first time in centuries. Now with so much behind him, but so much still uncertain for himself and his people, Balshar continues to advance his abilities to bring order to the chaotic fel magic and ensure his people's survival and future.

Skills and Abilities

Balshar has taken the path of the blood mage, and as such his magic skills are different from the traditional warlock:

Fel Fire: Balshar relies entirely on fire magic as his arcane school of choice. As such he has no shadow-based spells (such as Shadowbolt), he has no demon-summoning capability, and all his hybrid spells are purely fire-based (Such as Shadowfury). He also retains access to the basic fire spells of a regular mage (Fireball, Scorch, Flamestrike, etc).

Siphon Mana: Balshar can leech raw magical energy from victims to enhance his own spellpower.

Verdant Spheres: Balshar does not consume the souls of mortals for power, but instead absorbs the raw chaotic energy of demons he destroys instead. As such, he does not use soul shards, but verdant spheres. They are functionally identical.

Summon Phoenix: At full energy, Balshar can summon forth the symbol of Quel'thalas, the elemental firebird itself, to incinerate his enemies. Doing so requires fully-powered verdant spheres and renders Balshar physically exhausted. The phoenix is not bound to the blood mage and will only serve his bidding as a favor while a threat exists. It will return to the fire plane when its duty is fullfilled or if it is offended in any way by mortals.
