Personality

Although Ava is young, her maturity would suggest otherwise. She acts wise for her age and has the amazing ability to remain calm in nearly every situation, many mistake this for coldness. Those who get close enough would realize that she lacks self-confidence and is quite insecure, but this is not evident to those who do not know her well. Ava is quite intuitive and usually seeks to understand the reasons behind a person's actions. She is a bit rebellious and her unorthodox method of practice can lead her to be misunderstood.

History

Ava was born in Andorhal in Northern Lordaeron. Her family, consisting of both her parents and three older siblings, owned a large farm just outside the city that was key in supplying agricultural goods to the region. As soon as she was introduced to the Light, Ava displayed a profound faith in it and would often ramble on about it to her family, adding theories of her own. This was not taken too kindly by her brothers and sister, but her parents considered it a blessing of sorts, even though it was slightly unnerving to hear a child so young talk about such universal concepts. She studied old tomes from the local Cathedral and learned about the manipulation and detection of energy from the priest there.

Before the outbreak of the Third War Ava began acting strangely. She refused to eat or drink for days at a time and grew short of temper. Her parents dismissed her new attitude as the kind of rebellion that accompanies a 13 year-old girl. Ava insisted that no one was listening to her, but when asked what was wrong she seemed unable to come up with an answer more specific than 'something.' When Ava was intercepted in an attempt to burn down a nearby field of grain, many, including her family, began to question her sanity. Her situation at home reached a breaking point shortly afterward when, in the middle of dinner, she lurched across the table, tackled her father to the ground, and tried to pry the half-eaten bread from his mouth. She was barely tolerated after that and her mother went through a great deal of effort to persuade her father to allow Ava to remain in the house.

Two weeks later, the Plague of Undeath began to break out. Upon seeing one of them pass Ava explained calmly to her family that she had to leave and fight. Although they protested that this was out of the question, Ava sneaked out later in the night. Her small form allowed her to go unnoticed and she soon discovered a few Paladins and Priests that were fighting against the undead and had formed a camp.

Near dawn, the camp was attacked. Few survived, but the camp was defended in the end. Mistaking her for only short and not young, one of the Paladins ordered her to heal one of the fatally wounded. The man was a mess of blood and torn flesh and, although Ava tried to the best of her abilities to heal him, he died beneath her hands. The other Paladin became furious, as the deceased man was one of his closest friends; in his rage, he was unable to prevent himself from blaming Ava. Ava was crushed and, for a small and dark period of time, convinced that the Light did not look fondly upon her.

Another man at the camp was the Priest Johnathan, a middle aged man and a bit of a coward. He took Ava under his wing and, shortly after the attack on the camp, suggested that they leave together. Ava was shocked by this and argued that they should stay and fight, even if it meant death. He frowned at her and spoke in a grim tone, "Do not be a martyr for nothing. This city has fallen, there is nothing left for us to do."

Understanding his point, Ava left with him despite her initial hesitation. The Priest put her under a great deal of pressure to learn about other sources of power and even went so far as to blame her for the man's death. Still believing that she did not have the skills required to master the energy of the Light, Ava questioned him about the power he spoke of. The man's explanation developed into a series of ramblings about Old Gods and shadow energy. Although Ava was cognizant that the man was not entirely sane, she allowed him to teach her the ways of the shadow with the hope that she could learn how to use it as a positive force. For the duration of a few years, the man tutored her in this magic and she kept her thoughts of the Light to herself. Once she felt she had mastered as much of the magic as he could teach her, Ava promptly left and continued to the nearby Stormwind on her own, seeking sanctuary in the Cathedral of Light.

Although she works within the Cathedral, Ava claims to have no knowledge of magic whatsoever and would only describe herself as a practitioner of first aid. In addition to shadow energy, she studies the Old Gods that her previous tutor spoke of. She keeps this to herself in order to avoid any misunderstandings of her alignment.
