History

What She Was

Aurora grew up alone with her mother in the Quel'thalas area. She did not know her father. Her mother would tell the little girl about him often. Beautiful as the sun and with long raven hair and sun-kissed skin. A hero and a swordsman. Someone Aurora should be proud of. She grew up imagining having her father with her and loving the memory of him.

Her mother worked at a Tavern and they had a little room over the stables. As a part of the job, she and her mother would travel to a near-by market once a month to stock up on food and other necessary things. It was on one of these trips she lost her mother. They left in the evening, following the road through the darkness. Stopping and resting under a large tree the attack happened.

Protecting her child, the mother would get between Aurora and what the girl later only remembered as the shadows coming alive. She was screaming for her child to run. And Aurora ran. She ran until her legs would not carry her anymore. The girl never saw her mother again.

With the mother no longer working at the Tavern someone new were to take her place. Since Aurora was too young to fill the position she could no longer stay in the room. She found a new place, doing daily tasks and errands for food and a place to sleep.

As she grew older she would skip between jobs, never staying in one place for long. She lived from day to day, not planning ahead and never dreaming of better days. This is how she learned, that stealing from drunk guests at the taverns would prove to be much easier than an honest day's work. Soon she'd keep herself with only what she could lift off of easy targets. She got better and better at being unseen. Always staying in the background and when failing, getting away fast.

Being all alone in the world and not too good at making friends, Aurora often felt lost and abandoned. She would always carry her mother's favorite necklace on her person. As a tribute to her father she would dye a lock of her hair raven black. She did this by using black dye meant for clothing, and she was careful to always keep it looking sharp.

To follow in her father's footsteps Aurora would later join the army to fight for her kind. She wasn't a good soldier, however. She had a problem with authority and being a loner she preferred her own way. Even so she fought for her people for years, trying to become what her father had been - A hero. But her efforts never seemed enough. She was never satisfied.

The corruption of the Sunwell was a painful experience for her. She felt the withdrawal strongly, being used to letting her desires and needs control her every move.

She returned to the remains of Quel'thalas, and greedily accepted Fel to quench the thirst she could not in any other way control. She felt sick about her own addiction, and as the Sunwell was purified she would loathe Fel energy and every use of it.

She picked up her old ways, and coincidence lead her traveling across Hellfire Peninsula as a guard, protecting a caravan of merchants and market folk. One night she was torn from her sleep by screaming, having to relive her childhood nightmare as shadows came alive around her. The caravan was attacked by demons, and trying to flee she was knocked to the ground and passed out.

She woke up in what seemed to be a ruin, chained to a wall. She couldn't see much, but screams of fear and pain could be heard around her. She made it through almost three days of pain and torture, while the voices around her grew fewer and weaker. Without food or water and not much sleep, bleeding and hurting, she was barely alive on the third day.

What She Became

Through her suffering she heard the sound of metal against metal, and the screams of demons from the lower levels of the ruins. The outline of an elf stood before her soon after, but her terror was complete as he turned and left her for dead. She mustered all of her strength and called out for him to save her. She woke up hours later in a little camp. Her Savior, Damron, had tended to her wounds and made sure she had something to drink. As she recovered with his care, the only thing remaining was the hate she felt towards demons.

She saw Damron as the only reason for her life not being taken. In some form, she saw her father in him. The hero her father had been to her, she now saw in Damron. And she wanted nothing more than to become what he was. She begged for him to train her, to make her like him. A Demon Hunter. And finally he agreed.

And so her training began. Damron taught her how to fight, how to hunt and how to stay alive. Not a day passed without pain and struggle. He would push her limits constantly, putting her in situations making her feel lost, alone and scared. Over and over, she wanted to give up, but she stayed. She learned. Most nights as they would share a meal and rest, Damron told her about demons and how to fight and kill them. He also told her about his own life and training. Slowly a picture was drawn of what she was to become; a being so close to what she'd be hunting and killing. Learning this was a struggle for her, but as she progressed in her training she grew to accept the price she would pay for her choice. She would have to fight fire with fire, and almost dying by the hands of demons helped put this into perspective for her. She'd chosen her path and she stayed on it.

Her first task was to get from Ratchet to Everlook on foot in less than a week. She would have nothing but the clothes on her back and a dagger to help her. She was instructed to avoid cities and allies, and to get by with only what she and nature could provide. He would be waiting in Everlook at midnight on the last day.

Aurora made it to Everlook, and was waiting for Damron as he appeared at midnight. She was bruised, dirty and exhausted but all in all she had done fairly well. Her first words to him were : "Chicken. I've been dreaming of chicken for days!"

Next came the quest for her tattoos. She was told to find and slay a demon, and as her Master before her she returned with the heart of a Felguard. The battle had taken its toll on her, and she was in pain and exhausted. This however was nothing compared to the agony she had to endure upon receiving the Mark of the Hunter. A bitter-sweet victory.

After her recovery her training continued. She would pick glaives as her weapons, and Damron made her practice until she bled and almost passed out. It wasn't enough to be effective. The glaives had to feel like a part of herself.

As she finished her training one day, she was told that time had come for her to give up her eyes. She watched her last sunset and her last sunrise, knowing that the world would never look the same.

As the Hunters before her, she was told to gouge out her own eyes. She was handed a dagger covered in demon blood. The same dagger Damron had used. The pain was unbearable and she spent days drifting in and out of consciousness. It took her a while to recover, and even longer to get used to her new sight, but as with everything else this too became a part of her.

For Aurora's final trial, she was instructed to hunt and slay a corrupted Demon Hunter. This too proved to be a rough and bloody affair. She drained his heart, drinking the blood and returned to her Master. She said the words that night. An oath promising to slay all demons from that day and to her last day. Her time with Damron was complete and as the sun rose that morning she left to find her own path.
