Personality

A testament to the sheer resilience and mental fortitude of the Draenei, Astra’anu is still as cheery, kind and forgiving a person as she nears her thirtieth millennium as she was in her first. As an Anchorite, she believes it her duty to guide, offer advice and be an effective anchor and beacon of faith for her people and those in need of her aid. Needless to say that she is immensely devout to the Light of Creation, the binding force of the universe, and the Naaru who have been its agents since the Dawn.

Astra’anu does have an adventurous streak though, particularly of late, and her traveling scholar-like manner of romping across worlds in search of wisdom and knowledge often has her facing various more or less unkind denizens in combat. Of the races, she loves her own people, and finds the most pleasant company to be that of the Kaldorei, Tauren and a few Light-worshipping Sin’dorei. She realizes full well the Orcs are trying to rid themselves of Fel-corruption and the influence of the Legion, but doesn’t put much stock in their efforts, commendable though they are. Astra’anu tries not to hate most races, but the unholy and demonic are things she abhors. Thus shadow, necromancy and fel-wielders tend to get a very bad reception.

History

Born in Mac’Aree, to parents who were constantly traveling the world of Argus, Astra’anu quickly ended up following in her mother and father’s hoofsteps. She had always been a curious child, eager to learn and gain wisdom and knowledge, and traveling all about Argus was the best way to do it in her mind. She visited sages, saw both the beauty of the natural world, and the vast cities of magic and technology that the Eredar had built, and grew into a fine young explorer.

The millennia spent on Argus brought her insight into the arts of enchanting and inscription – for the Eredar were masters of magic, but also into the necessary skills to survive in the wilderness in long journeys alone – her skill with a crystal blade slowly being honed. Speaking of crystal, she even took interest in the crystal-forging techniques of the Eredar, and carefully tried her hand at creating gemstones with various effects.

Astra’anu’s travels slowly turned more and more towards the pursuit of wisdom rather than knowledge, for there was only so much left to learn. The adventurous scholar soon heard of the offer made to the Eredar by their visitors. Thankfully, Astra’anu chose to stand on Velen’s side, considering well the Sight he had that his brothers lacked, and though she was horrified at what happened to her homeworld and her people, she gladly joined Velen’s followers to the stars, naming herself Draenei as they did.

Among the Draenei, Astra’anu took to the Light at the very first chance she got. Unlike the Arcane, she was genuinely good at it. She came to adore the Naaru and loved their teachings of equality, faith and unity. Astra’anu still managed to keep up her hobbies of enchanting, inscription and crystalforging, but often gave them a divine twist, blending the use of the Light into their practice.

On the many stops the Draenei made in their search for a new homeworld, Astra’anu worked as a healer and protector for the scouting parties that visited the innumerable worlds of the exodus across the stars, but she always kept a keen eye out for new pieces of knowledge and wisdom along the way.

By the time the Draenei made planetfall on what would later be named Draenor, Astra’anu had been an Anchorite for nearly twenty thousand years. Needless to say, she rejoiced when the Draenei finally found a new home, seemingly safe from the pursuit of the Burning Legion, and quickly proceeded to travel all across Draenor as an explorer, guiding small parties here and there, and gathering information on the environment and its denizens. Eventually, she started traveling in-between Draenei settlements, offering healing and wisdom wherever she tread.

Astra’anu was interested in the Orcs for a time but soon her attention turned back to her own people. Alas, the Legion never sleeps and thanks to the traitor leading them after the Draenei, the enemy of all life found the Exiles once more. In the ensuing slaughter, Astra’anu did the only sensible thing she could – she fled north into the marshes. The ensuing apocalypse that came with the Orcs’ corruption tore Draenor asunder and though Astra’anu never lost hope – and indeed tried to inspire others to be strong in the face of adversity, as per her duties as an Anchorite, her spirits were truly lifted only when she came into contact with a party of Humans, Elves and Dwarves that were headed for the very edge of the world.

Astra’anu took to the strangers, and followed them, slowly learning their tongue and exchanging food and other necessary supplies for healing and protection, and working as an emissary of sorts. Eventually, the multi-race party reached a place Astra’anu never even knew existed: The Netherstorm. And there, at the edge of the Twisting Nether, one of their number – a bearded Human man named Khadgar, called out to beings beyond the stars for aid.

What happened next was likely one of the happiest moments in Astra’anu’s life. Aboard the small fleet of ships of the Tempest Keep, the Sha’tar Naaru came. On the return trip, more Draenei joined the party, and they headed straight for the ruins of Shattrath city, finding there a few remnants of the Draenei priesthood that would later become the Aldor. Astra’anu pondered joining the Aldor, but her outlook as an Anchorite bade her to be in the service of all the peoples of Shattrath, not just the Draenei, and so she remained a part of the Sha’tar’s forces, helping rebuild the former capital of Draenor.

It was for her generous aid and her long experience in wielding the Light of Creation that Astra’anu humbly received the title of Grand Anchorite, and it only made her pursue her duties with more fervor. She blessed the troops that were to retake Tempest Keep, and offered many prayers when she heard that they’d only managed to take back a single wing.

Regardless, as the Legion invaded Draenor once more, and the Dark Portal opened up, the Grand Anchorite’s thirst for adventure sparked anew, and her path took her to battle the Burning Legion’s minions throughout the shattered world. When the Sha’tar brought word of the Deceiver trying to rise up through the Sunwell of Azeroth – a world Astra’anu had never even seen before – she jumped to the occasion to help and aided the Shattered Sun Offensive throughout the length of the Sunwell Campaign, but had to return to Shattrath soon afterwards, for duty called once more.

Next, Astra’anu was headed for what was once Karabor, the beloved temple of the Light, now twisted by a foul creature calling himself the Lord of Outland. The Grand Anchorite successfully aided the troops that besieged the Temple and inadvertently helped bring the dream of a restored Karabor closer to reality. It was at this point that Astra’anu became certain that the Army of the Light would prevail, and that the Legion would fall before it.

Bereaved from so much warfare, Astra’anu spent time in Shattrath once more, and it was then that she met one of her closest traveling companions – a Tauren Druid. It was with her that Astra’anu finally traveled to Azeroth properly, and together they face new adventures, even nowadays.

Skills and Abilities

The Infinite Wonders of the Light of Creation
The Draenei excels in Holy magic.
Since the Dawn of Time
Astra’anu’s scholarly pursuits have been honed over tens of thousands of years. She is thus quite proficient in inscription – particularly as regards holy symbols, and enchanting – blessing objects to imbue them with divine properties in particular, as well as the art of crystalforging – especially when it comes to crystals with holy-like effects. They’ve been blended into the practice of the Divine.
